Welcome to today's episode of Lindsay tries it so you don't have to.
We're going to be trying Amazon's best selling
and suspiciously affordable Chicago roller skate.
So let's go ahead and unbox this.
I bought this with my own money, so it's completely unbiased review.
It gives you the option of buy new or you can scroll down
and there's one that's like buy used like somebody returned it.
And so I think I got that.
I'll insert a picture of the listing right here.
OK, stuff is falling out of the package.
Oh, wait, I ordered these separately.
These are brakes and it's in the shape of a little paw print.
I forgot about this.
I don't know if that's the right color.
We'll check on that.
OK, box two.
That was dangerous.
OK, these look really big.
Oh, no. Why do they look so huge?
Are they in men's sizes?
They're pink.
Guys can totally wear pink to a pot.
Well, maybe these will fit.
They're not very soft inside.
It's not padded on the inside.
OK, so here's up close.
So we have the wheel.
I need to loosen those.
That actually doesn't feel too bad.
I usually like to switch these.
And that's why I bought the extra one, because the should be screwing.
This is metal, which is really good because it's less likely to break.
Plastic, but that's normal.
Let's turn them on.
Am I in the tow stop?
Your hair is so long.
After practicing in them a bit,
I can still do quite a bit of stuff in them,
so they're not 100% unworkable.
I can feel this one digging into my leg because there's no cushion.
These would be so hard to learn on.
It feels like everything's at least 50% harder to do in these skates.
Or maybe like if it's 50% harder
and also 50% more chance of me just like falling.
So it makes it scarier.
I feel like I have less control over what I'm doing.
And I'm more scared of rocks.
OK, that one was OK.
Also, if you ever wanted to try park skating or you think you might,
do not get these.
I repeat, I would be terrified to take these and try these at the park.
What the heck? What happened to the tongue? Where'd it go?
I'm going to have to dig that out.
Oh, wait, where'd that one go to? Oh, my gosh.
Where is it?
It just falls to the side.
Wow. That's so annoying.
I think this is probably their best
just a straightforward trail skating.
The wheels don't absorb as much as I hoped they would.
You're just going to skate on a trail with your friends every once in a while.
You could probably get away with using these skates,
but you would feel more wobbly than your friends
who got different skates would feel.
They don't absorb the rockiness of the trail.
So you probably want to be on a pretty smooth trail.
And this one is a little bit old, so it has some bumps.
But I think this would probably be the safest way to use these skates.
These would just be so hard to learn on.
So I just want to do a little comparison of skates.
And this is my first pair of skates that I ever got.
This is they're like $120 moxie beach bunnies.
And then these are Bont that are made for or at least mostly used for park skating.
And so like you can see that the inside of these skates
kind of like don't have any type of like padding in them.
It's just kind of like a filthy material.
And then this kind of has like a little bit of padding in it, but like not very much.
And then this one has kind of like padding all around.
These two are pretty comparable in price to these.
Sometimes it's harder to get in bigger sizes, though.
And on this one, I also switched out the toe stop and the toe top.
The toe stop that I switched it out for makes it so much better because it's like more jelly.
And this toe stop is a little bit more plasticky.
But it's like it's not the most horrible toe stop ever.
And it is cool that you can switch it out.
And so the same kind of goes with the the wheels here.
These are more like a little bit more jelly and grippy.
And these feel a little bit more plasticky and hard.
But this is metal.
So and metal is going to be better than plastic.
And these are adjustable too, which is pretty weird.
But like they're overall more comfortable than these are.
But like I guess you could just wear thicker socks to kind of balance that out.
But the tongue was slipping to the side, which was a huge problem.
And they just weren't that comfortable.
And so then you can compare it to skate through the mossies.
And look at how thick the padding on this is.
This tongue, it doesn't really slip around.
It basically stays in place.
And then this has nice padding all the way around too.
And actually, that's really thick back there too.
This doesn't have any padding back here.
And then we can compare them to the park skates.
Did I say how much these were?
These were like $300, I think.
And so these have like, is that leather around the edge?
That's pretty nice.
And then they are leather.
So and this is like not leather.
These have like special padding inside of it
that makes it more comfortable and kind of stay in place.
And these have special Velcro right here
that definitely keeps the tongue in place.
And it has this strap that goes around here
to lock everything in to make them really tight.
So these are like really nice.
So it's not like the same price range,
but you can get a feel for the differences
in quality of skate and what you're buying.
And sometimes you definitely want to start out
with something that's cheaper
so you can like test it out and see if you like it.
But you might end up not really liking skating
because it might hurt your feet.
You also might not like skating as much as you probably would
if you had gotten better skates
because you'll be annoyed that the tongue
isn't staying in place.
But like, if you just want to test it out,
like I can't say it's like the worst thing ever,
but I would definitely recommend like other skates
over those skates.
Because basically you would want to switch out
these wheels anyway,
because they're really plasticky
and you would eventually want to switch out the toe stop too.
So like with the upgrades that you'd make
in the first like month or whatever,
like you would spend the same amount as you would
on another better pair of skates.
So I just, I don't think I'd recommend,
I wouldn't recommend them to a friend.
So I won't recommend them to you.
It works, but if you do buy them,
just know like if you're struggling,
if you're sliding,
if you're tripping a lot,
I tripped so much more in these than my other skates.
Like my Moxies,
I tripped way less in those than I did this.
I asked my friend if she wanted to try these
and she was like,
I don't want to try them
because she saw me falling all over the place.
And I've been skating for like three-ish years now,
I think,
and you know,
I fall sometimes,
but not as much as I did wearing these today.
And my feet kind of hurt after we skated,
but we skated pretty far
and it wasn't that bad of pain.
I just don't think you'll really like
fully enjoy skating in these
and they're a little bit dangerous
because they're kind of plasticky.
I'll link below like better options.
Like here's a better option
at like the $50 price range,
like at the same price range.
Here's a better option,
hopefully.
You could also look on eBay
and look for used skates.
That's what somebody else recommended.
I think that's a great idea too.
And here's like a really good beginner option,
like in the $100 range.
And the big problem is that as a beginner,
you're not going to know that it's the skates.
That's the problem.
You're not the problem.
The skates are the problem.
But as a beginner,
you won't know that.
You're just going to say,
I'm a beginner.
That's why I suck.
But no, you don't suck.
It's your skates that suck.
When I first bought these,
I was like,
I didn't think they were going to be that bad.
And I was like,
they're going to be fine.
They're just skates.
How big of a difference can they make?
It kind of makes a big difference.
And I found myself,
because I have a bunch of different pairs of skates,
and I found myself not wanting to choose these.
I didn't want to choose them,
especially indoor on the hardwood floor.
It just felt like the plasticky wheels
weren't gripping at all.
And I didn't like it.
And so I just don't think
you would enjoy skating in these.
And so definitely go with the other options.
So make sure to hit that like and subscribe button
