Named to honor the heroic crew and passengers of Flight 1549, 'Miracle on the Hudson' is an amazing rose which featuresāļø rich, red, semi-double flowers that are almost 4 inches across. The flowers have a pleasant but not over-whelming fragrance. The foliage emerges with hues of deep redā¤ļø before changing to a deep, rich, glossy green. Best of all, it gives easy care and breathtaking color all summer long!
Well, it's another windy day here at Over-de-Vest, so we moved into the greenhouse
to take a look at some roses. As you probably know, here at Over-de-Vest, we grow a lot
of very nice roses, ones that we know perform very well right here in our region,
in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states. And here, towards my right, is one of the most
famous roses that we grow. This is Rose Miracle on the Hudson. Famous not just because of its
name that commemorates that wonderful feat when Sully Sullenberger and his crew managed to land
the disabled aircraft on the Hudson, but also the reason that it's really famous is
that this is the rose that swept the board, quite literally, at the Biltmore Rose Trials in 2014,
won four major awards. If you're interested in finding more out about it, I suggest that you
go and look at another video that we have on this channel that we made some years ago about it,
and therefore we explain more about it, its various awards it got, and how you can grow it, etc.
Before I leave it, I just want to make mention of the fact that this is now a certified variety
within the Hand-Picked for You program. That means that it's been selected by professionals
in the industry, including those at your local garden centers, to pick superior performing
varieties that we know do very well right here in this area. So, an excellent rose, and one that if
you don't know it and don't grow it, you certainly should. But then what happened was, on the success
of that rose, came from the same breeder, Robert Ripito, two sister seedlings, and this one is
called Pink Miracle. And as you see, this one's really quite similar, it has a similar cast to
the foliage, it's very free flowering, lots of buds there, when the buds open, they open up to
these bright, vivid flowers that really put on a terrific show. Little bigger, a few more petals,
and more like a semi-double flower rose, and also, I noticed too, a more pronounced fragrance.
Then, if you're looking for one that's really going to grab your attention, what about this
variety? This is Coral Miracle. Look at this one. Absolutely amazing, when the buds open,
it opens to this really rich, bright, glowing, coral pink color. And what I like about it is,
that as the flowers go through their stages of maturity, they're always changing,
and they go through to a very bright, glowing pink. All on a plant that's a little shorter,
a little bit more compact, also free flowering, and also has, I think, probably even stronger
fragrance than either of its two sisters. So there you have three varieties, which are really
beautiful, really nice, good growing plants for this area, and ones that I think you'll probably
want to take a close look at. This is Pink Miracle, then this one is Coral Miracle,
and this is the original Miracle on the Hudson.
