M. Cazzati: Ciaccona in D Major, Voices of Music 8K UHD video
Maurizio Cazzati's delightful set of variations in D Major, performed on original instruments by the award-winning ensemble Voices of Music, The Ciaccona (ground bass) appears both as a published work and also in the Rost manuscript from c1660. Cazzati was one of the most prolific composers of the 17th century; he published well over 60 volumes of music and composed in every genre of the time, although the operas and oratorios are now lost. Cazzati was instrumental in the development of the trumpet sonata which set the stage for the transition to the trumpet concerto. In his variations, Cazzati artfully alternates between the high and low registers of the violin and leavens this texture with fiery roulades.
