“Just as one candle lights another and can light thousands of other candles, so one heart illuminates another heart and can illuminate thousands of other hearts.”
~Leo Tolstoy

August still packs a punch although its message is a bit more elusive as the outer planets hold their basic pattern for the entire month. The Saturn-Neptune conjunction in impulsive Aries begins to separate but its double-edged sword of influence persists all month. Saturn continues to clarify the mists of Neptune’s illusions while Neptune adds a layer of idealism and/or delusion, breaking down Saturn’s mundane sense of reality. Meanwhile, the ever-so-slow Uranus-Pluto trine inches closer to perfection (exact) and is within one-third of a degree orb by the end of the month. The radical awakening prompted by Uranus flows into the depths of Pluto’s collective unconscious. The profound changes developing under the surface will alter the social fabric as the Uranus-Pluto trine perfects five times between July 2026 and May 2028. This global transformation is so deep that it will take several years to fully manifest. At the same time, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction is forming a series of sextiles with Pluto on one side and with Uranus on the other, adding a powerful cosmic jolt to our lives. Revolutionary Uranus, a harbinger of surprise, slides into an exact cooperative sextile to Saturn on August 11 and to Neptune on August 28, shocking our system with real breakthroughs or breakdowns and introducing new dreams into the mix. Ultimately, cosmic forces are revealing long-held secrets as we wake up from a collective dream. An evolutionary leap might sound extreme but radical change is the only thing that can save us.

Assertive Mars plays a significant role in August, especially when it enters artistic Libra on August 6 to create a kite configuration over the next several days. Mars isn’t necessarily comfortable in Venus-ruled Libra, unless we are willing to view things from a wider perspective. When we take all sides of an issue into account, Mars in Libra becomes the ultimate diplomat, mediator, or peacemaker. Mars fills out a Grand Air Trine, perfecting the trines with Uranus and Pluto on August 8 and 10, respectively. This planetary configuration indicates an intellectual flow of energy that can move us into a new paradigm. Simultaneously, Mars opposes the Saturn-Neptune conjunction on August 8–9, introducing systemic resistance (Saturn) and a bit of misdirection (Neptune) into the equation. As if this wasn’t enough chaos and confusion, the Aquarius Full Moon occurs on August 9 at 12:55 am PDT. This lunation complicates an already complex situation, pitting our Leo self-interest against our Aquarius need for community. Additionally, the Sun and Moon agitate Mars, Saturn, and Neptune, indicating that our heartfelt intentions may not be supported by the larger political and social conditions. Nevertheless, constructive actions are a reliable remedy that prevents us from slipping into denial.

Mercury, the planet of thinking, sets a background tone for August. Having turned retrograde on July 17, Mercury is particularly loud when so close to Earth. The Heavenly Messenger reminds us to review old plans, reconsider what’s important, and revisit ideas (and people) from our past. Mercury’s direct turn on August 11 is a signal to stop looking back and aim our thoughts into the future. However, it takes until August 25 for Mercury to move through its shadow area, where it has been located since the end of June. The clouds are dispersing and there is the potential to regain clarity as we reflect on the lessons we’ve learned. Meanwhile, the Sun shifts from mid-summer Leo into end-of-summer Virgo (in the Northern Hemisphere) on August 22 at 1:33 pm PDT. The pragmatic Virgo New Moon occurs just a few hours later at 11:06 pm, offering us a chance to commit to a few weeks of intense concentration and hard work. However, this New Moon stirs up stressful dynamics as it squares wildcard Uranus, and forms irritating quincunxes with Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto. Ironically, focusing solely on our personal needs could leave us feeling defeated, as if there is nowhere to go. Thankfully, the cultural transformation from the Uranus-Pluto trine can reveal an effective path to realize our dreams if we can expand our awareness and prioritize the greater good.
