I started choosing navy, gray, olive, and brown instead of black when I turned 50. Black looks more harsh on my older self, while the others are much more flattering. ❤
What colors are just as versatile but are not black? Let me share with you my three favorites
today. On the days you do not feel like wearing black, these are just as easy to style and make
you look expensive. Make sure you stay till the end. The last one is my go-to. Click the
link below to download my free ebook, The Top 10 Petite Essentials. One of the biggest reasons
a lot of women are staying away from navy is because they tend to think navy can give you
that corporate look. So I'm going to start with how to do navy in casual looks. I just bought
these linen blend pants, elastic waistband, drawstring cutouts on the side. If they were
any other color, it would look extremely casual. But because I went with navy, the built-in
formalness of navy somehow makes it look elegant. So now I'm pairing it with my H&M poplin blouse.
This is an outfit I could wear to go any places and do not feel like I'm underdressed. Did you
know there are colors that do not go with black but do go with navy? Like this little top.
Butter yellow is the trendiest color for the year. But a lot of women stay away from it because
we just don't know how to pair such bright, vibrant colors. Traditionally, whenever that
happens, we are very tempted to just default to black. But in this case, if you wear it with black,
it just looks too harsh. So instead, when I switch to navy, the two colors complement each other and
navy brings out the vibrancy of the yellow. This is just one example. Here I'm going to show you
more color combos that look better with navy instead of black.
If you're looking for casual pieces that can transition from day to night, going with navy
is smart. Like this little dress I'm wearing, I just got it from Qoom's European London collection.
You know how much I love this dress. I have it in other colors, but navy is one color that can
easily be worn at daytime because it's not as formal as black, but also transition into evenings
because it just looks so elegant. This little pleated skirt, I actually got it from Amazon.
You couldn't tell because navy makes it look so much more expensive. If you're thinking this is
more for the office look, yes, if I pair it with a vest, this is a navy on navy, it looks more
formal. On the same skirt, watch when I switch to a casual top. Now you see how this becomes a day
night look. One of the biggest reasons I love gray is how well they work with light color pieces,
especially whites. That means when you add a couple of gray items to your wardrobe,
you can wear your summer whites all the way to the fall, even to the winter. This pair of palazzo
pants I bought from Loft. I cannot say enough good things about it. The drape is so beautiful,
the shape, the length, everything is just perfect. This is my go-to office pants for the summer. I do
not want to just put it up when the weather turns colder. So when I pair this with gray cashmere,
look how beautifully the two colors complement each other. And now this becomes seasonless,
I can continue to wear it to the fall and even for the winter. Same concept for your white denim,
pair them up with a gray sweater, now you're good for the fall. For office outfits,
gray and navy is a wonderful color combo. It looks professional but not as formal or serious
as black and still give you that old money relaxed vibe. If you have a pair of gray trousers,
these are wonderful for office because they're true classic. But that's exactly the reason
sometimes they can make you feel old school. So here's my two tips for you to make sure they
don't make you look dated. Number one is go a little shorter with your top. When I pair it
with a cropped tweed top, the fabrics still look professional and good for the office. But the
shorter length of the top is what makes the entire outfit look more on trend. The next one, my
favorite, update your neckline. This is probably the most overlooked. Most women are not paying
attention to the necklines. If you already have plenty of crew neck, v-neck, try a mock neck.
Mock neck is one of the hottest trends right now. Notice I'm also adding a belt with statement gold
buckles. Small simple tricks like this immediately make your entire gray trouser outfits look more
fashionable. So now you can still wear this for the office, still look very
appropriate for professional setting, but you can also wear it from desk to dinner.
I am so glad you're staying for this part of the video because I'm going to tell you
about my absolute favorite, chocolate brown. You may have already noticed because lately I have
been wearing a lot of chocolate brown pieces. When you don't already wear chocolate brown,
you are really missing out on one of the most understated yet luxurious looking colors.
Starting with brown and white, one of my favorite color combos. White looks clean and bright,
while brown adds depth and warmth. This is an easy to wear color combo that you can always
default to no matter what season and always look sophisticated and chic. Brown and beige
is another foolproof way to pull off this beautiful color. Both are neutrals, both are
from the same color scheme. That's why they always look so in harmony together. But you do have the
right amount of contrast that makes this combination always look classy and timeless.
This is one of my favorite vacation dresses this year I bought from Mango. Brown is such an
underrated color for vacation. Traditionally when we're packing for vacation, most of us
default to summer whites or really bright colorful choices. This is my first vacation
dress in brown. When I was trying it on, I was blown away. It was so flattering. Brown really
flatter women with warmer undertones, especially when you're on vacation, you get that nice tan.
So that's why if you've never tried brown for your vacation clothes, give it a chance. You might
be missing out. Brown for the evenings may sound unconventional because a lot of us default to
black as a color for the evenings, but brown can really work well and make you look expensive. This
is one of my favorite color combos. A brown top from Amazon, very inexpensive, and a little
satin skirt is from Quiz. It's real silk. I did add a brown leather belt from Reece to cinch my
waist. The entire outfit looks so rich. Shine of the satin plus a deep rich color of the brown.
This is perfect for a gallery opening or a date night. Of course, I have to talk about this brown
palazzo pants. Yes, this is the same pants I got from Amazon, which I showed you earlier in gray.
I like it so much because everything about these pants, the length, the fit, is so perfect for me.
So now I have them in like seven different colors. The brown pair I wear a lot for office outfits.
You can easily put on any polished top or even casual top. The brown wide leg pants just look
so professional and sophisticated. So the outfit is very easy to be office ready. But don't be fooled
if you're thinking the brown wide leg pants are reserved for work. Let me show you when you pair
with a monochromatic top. This is one of my favorite ways to wear these pants for other
occasions. Now it looks feminine and romantic. So now this is good for a nighttime wear. Perfect
for a date night. Wow, congratulations. I am so glad you have finished the entire video. So now you know
when you don't feel like wearing black or maybe black is just not your thing. These are the three
colors that always make you feel luxe and chic. And they also are just as easy to style as black.
