The man who never fell has no glory. The man who fell and got back up, that's where his glory is.
The man who fell 20 times and got up 21 times, that man has even greater glory.
Wow.
That man has more courage, way more courage than the guy who was so strong
from birth that he never fell. There's no glory in that.
Greatness is built in silence, when no one's watching, early, alone.
Because what you repeat in private defines you in public.
Not for anyone to notice, but because you said you would.
That's where the edge is created.
Whenever you feel frozen, that's the exact time to move.
I know it sounds contradictory, but think about it this way.
When you start feeling overwhelmed, thinking about everything you have to do,
the more you think about it, the more unapproachable,
every single small task starts to seem. So just start with something.
When you feel terrified of this big opportunity in front of you,
that even though it might be everything you've always wanted,
but also means that a lot of things that you've been used to are probably going to change,
that's the exact time to jump.
The biggest mistake that constantly sets you up for failure
is always backing off the moment you feel a little bit of stress.
Feelings can only be changed through getting in motion.
So use that fear, use that nervousness to lead you
into a challenging place that you've never been before.
However those chips may fall, you've proven to yourself that you're capable
of getting uncomfortable in pursuit of a greater outcome,
which increases your willingness to do it all again
in the face of those feelings that you previously would have run from.
Growth cannot exist without fear.
Everything starts as a thought, a vision no one else can see.
You become what you believe, you move how you think,
control the mind and you control everything.
That is the power of the mind.
Stop thinking.
Thinking is what destroys our confidence.
Thoughts.
Thoughts are like a river with bottles going down it
and in each bottle there's a message and that's a thought.
And they just keep coming down.
How many thoughts do you have in a day?
Non-stop in the middle of the night, just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
But we are in control.
If a bad thought comes in like,
hey if you try this maybe you'll lose everything and it won't work
and you're not smart enough, you're not good enough, you've failed in the past.
You know what you do?
You take that thought, put it back in the bottle and stick it in the stream and let it go.
One of the strongest refrains for suffering
is that it gives you the opportunity to create evidence of the person who you want to be.
I cannot say that I'm the type of man who can withstand hard things
without having gone through hard things.
The art of obsession.
It's in chasing infinite progress.
Obsession is identity, giving more than what's fair,
regardless of whether it takes days or years.
Obsession is quiet, isolated.
Obsession is clarity.
It's what makes impossible inevitable.
Hard work, dedication, sacrifice.
I can do that.
These are things that every human being can work on on their own.
The lessons aren't learned at the top of the mountain, my friend.
The lessons are learned at the beginning.
There's no better pathway to self-realization
and the ennoblement of being
than to posit the highest good that you can conceive of and commit yourself to it.
And then you might also ask yourself,
and this is definitely worth asking is,
do you really have anything better to do?
And if you don't, well, why would you do anything else?
I've looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself,
if today were the last day of my life,
would I want to do what I am about to do today?
And whenever the answer has been no for too many days in a row,
I know I need to change something.
Because almost everything,
all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure,
these things just fall away in the face of death,
leaving only what is truly important.
Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know
to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
Life is not easy.
It is not.
Don't try to make it that way.
Life's not fair.
It never was.
It isn't now and it won't ever be.
Do not fall into the trap,
the entitlement trap of feeling like you're a victim.
You are not.
Get over it.
Get on.
And yes, most things are more rewarding when you break a sweat to get them.
You've never done something before.
You expect yourself to be awesome at it.
You haven't done the work.
You haven't put in the time.
You haven't put in the study hours.
You haven't had the experience.
But you expect to be good.
And because you expect to be good, but you know you're not going to be good,
you don't do anything.
You want to be somebody who succeeds.
You want to be somebody who builds something.
You want to be somebody who people write books about one day.
You are going to have to be okay with being bad for a long time.
Those times when you get up early and you work hard.
Those times when you stay up late and you work hard.
Those times when you don't feel like working.
You're too tired.
You don't want to push yourself, but you do it anyway.
Everybody's got to find their own path.
And you have to realize that when you get on that path, you're going to f*** up.
You're going to make mistakes.
You're going to have bad f*** ups.
Like really bad.
But as long as you're willing to learn and you're willing to take those as lessons about
you're smart enough to not make those same mistakes over and over and over again.
There's really nothing that you can't do.
What are you giving?
Many people will leave the universe without a trace.
No one will know they were here.
In fact, under their name, we could put under there not used up.
Will anybody know that you came this way?
What contribution are you giving?
What will you leave?
What will be different because you came this way?
Someone once said that life is our gift to us.
That God has given us and how we live our lives is our gift to God.
What kind of gift are you formulating?
One of the things that we must do is that we must be involved in working on achieving
self-mastery.
You must work on yourself continuously.
Never be satisfied with yourself.
Human being you've got unlimited potential.
You can put effort on you.
And by concentrating on you and developing you, you can transform your life wherever
you are right now.
The sun doesn't shine every day.
The storms will come.
There are times when the nights will be long and dark and you will be alone.
There will be times when the darkness seems to consume everything.
But don't let it consume you.
Don't let it consume you.
Even in the darkest times, even in the strongest storms, even when the sun is blotted out and
the world is falling apart, the darkness cannot extinguish your light.
Your will.
Your determination.
No matter what is happening.
No matter how hard the fight is.
As long as you keep fighting, you win.
Only surrender is defeat.
Only quitting is the end.
Because the darkness only wins if you've let it.
Do not let the darkness win.
Fight.
Fight on.
To fight against the darkness is to win.
So fight on.
You are not.
If you never get married, you are not.
If you never pass that law degree, you are not.
If you never become a doctor, you are not.
If you never get married, you are not.
If you never have a child, you are not like you are.
And that's why God created you.
You are not.
But you've got to decide that I'm going to be fearless.
I refuse to be denied.
And I'm going to go all out.
I'm going to be relentless.
I don't care how many no's I encounter.
If you want something, you've got to be relentless.
Failure is a part of the process.
You have to fail to win.
You have to lose your fear of failure.
Failure is a part of the process.
People who don't, who never fail, never try.
You have to fail.
You've got to get it wrong to get it right.
You learn nothing from winning.
You only learn from your failures.
I tell you, passion is not something you were born with.
Everybody thinks they're going to turn inside like an archaeologist
and find that thing, their deepest passion,
the thing they always love, hiding inside.
As soon as you say it, I hope it sounds ridiculous
that you would love something that much and yet somehow be blind to it.
It doesn't work like that.
But if you really want a passion,
you've got to go through the process of gaining mastery.
It was about changing my identity
because at the end of the day,
identity and values drive behavior.
Real power is built through voluntary acts of quote unquote suffering.
To do hard work is to grow.
To push yourself on a project to places that frighten you
is to expand your creative capability.
Pleasure seekers don't create monument.
Any creative person has to face the arrows and slings of their critics.
So you get to world class through the doorway of discomfort.
You do it by walking into the metaphorical hard winters of growth.
That's how you train.
If you live properly, history will not be able to ignore that you lived.
And that's the way you were born to live.
You were born to make a mark in life that leaves fertilizer
for the seed of the next generation to take root.
I believe God has a dream and a vision for your life
that's supposed to carry you right out into eternity
because that's what's pulling it.
And that when you die, you're supposed to leave this earth
not on pension, but on purpose.
That it should not be untied, but it should be unfinished.
Most people actually leave the earth tired, not completed.
And we need to make sure that we can say at the end of our lives,
it is finished, not I am retired.
People have an idea or dream and they give up on it.
No, no, don't do that.
Work your dream until it get hard.
See, most things don't happen as soon as we think they should happen.
The messenger of misery might drop in on you and say hello.
Murphy's law might come by and thump you on the head.
Any number of things can happen to interrupt your flow.
It's okay, don't take it personal.
Just acknowledge what's going on is called life
and keep on working on your dream.
Continue to keep on knocking, keep on knocking
because this is your life.
This is what you love.
This is your passion.
During the process of gaining mastery,
you'll find out whether you actually like that thing enough to become great at it.
It is my belief, whatever it is you set out to do,
there should be one litmus test.
You should be able to ask and affirmatively answer the following question.
Do I want to know more about this than anyone else in the world?
Don't get into something unless you plan to be the best.
That's my piece of advice.
But if you want to have the passion to make something big,
to make big change,
it's got to be something you believe in beyond reasonable doubt.
It's got to be something you just got to make happen.
So ask yourself,
do I want to know more about this than anyone else?
Because you're going to have to get better at it than anyone else.
It's about facing your fears.
It's discipline to face your fears so you can conquer them.
And that's what discipline is.
Discipline means taking the hard road,
the uphill road to do what's right for yourself and for other people.
But the discipline will not allow that.
The discipline calls for strength and fortitude and will.
It won't accept weakness.
It won't tolerate another breakdown.
The discipline can see like it's your worst enemy.
But the reality is discipline is your best friend.
It will take care of you like nothing else can.
And it'll put you on that path.
The path to strength and health and intelligence and happiness.
I'm saying this is a time more than ever that you want to begin to
inoculate yourself with positive words,
coming to conventions, showing up on meetings,
being on the calls to make yourself unstoppable,
to get out of your mind the polluting negative thoughts
that's causing most people to go through life being stuck because of volunteer victims.
Somebody said the beekeeper died age 25 and don't get buried until they're 65
because they got so much garbage in their minds.
You are here because you got a clear vision of what you want and where you're going.
The only way to build your ego that is truly antifragile that I have found is to be the learner.
To be willing to admit when you're wrong.
To look at your goal and work backwards and say,
is what I'm doing actually moving me towards my goal or not?
Not does it make me feel good about myself?
Not am I right?
Not am I smart?
Is it moving me towards my goal?
And if it is, then you do it.
And if it doesn't, then you don't.
Where do you start?
You start right here.
And when you start, you start right now.
Don't just read this book.
Don't just listen to the podcast.
Don't just watch videos online.
Don't just take notes.
Don't just study them.
Don't just share them with your friends.
Don't just plan.
Don't just mark your calendar.
Don't just get motivated.
Don't just talk.
Don't just think.
Don't just dream.
No, none of that matters.
The only thing that matters is that you actually do.
So, do.
You see, I'm a firm believer that perspective drives performance every day of the week.
Like I'm a firm believer how an individual view what they do
will always affect how they do what they do.
Y'all gotta start loving your life.
Be comfortable in who you are.
If you come from a family right now that's broke, use that to your advantage.
I used that to my advantage that I was a high school dropout, that I was homeless.
I love dealing with a dude who think because he come from money, he better than me.
Let's go.
You got money, but do you got that dog?
Yeah, you got money, you got privilege, but do you got that dog?
Do you got that stamina?
So yeah, you might have something I don't have right now,
but if I work hard, I can have what you have.
Whenever I face anything that's challenging, whenever anything sucks, I like it.
It's gonna make me tougher.
It's gonna give me a good story to tell.
It's gonna toughen my mind.
When something sucks, good.
It's gonna make me tougher and it's gonna make us stronger.
So bring it.
Sit on your bed one day and ask yourself,
what remarkably stupid things am I doing on a regular basis to absolutely screw up my life?
And if you actually ask that question, but you have to want to know the answer, right?
Because that's actually what asking the question means.
It doesn't mean just mouthing the words.
It means you have to decide that you want to know.
You'll figure that out so fast, it'll make your hair curl.
What would happen if you consulted yourself about the best possible outcome for you?
You might get an answer.
When people are truly passionate about what they do, you just get a chemical rush.
You get the energy.
You become more resourceful.
When someone who doesn't have passion for they don't really want to be there anyway,
they will give up way easier because they're not having a good time.
It's not in them.
Don't try to change the world unless you seek change the way a man whose head is on fire seeks a pond.
Because at the end of the day, when the clock stops, let's just be real with you.
I'm not a stats guy.
I'm not a numbers guy.
I'm a hard guy.
But when it's all said and done, nobody's showing up at somebody's funeral saying,
man, you saw the square footage of his own?
Oh man, you saw his car?
You saw his Rolls Royce?
How about his bank account?
They're showing up talking about impact.
They're showing up talking about moments.
They're showing up talking about connection.
I'm not one of these guys that claim I know everything, but I do know this.
In life, people don't burn out because of what they do.
People burn out because life makes them forget why they do it.
So another year has come and gone and allowed us to rethink what place we were last year.
What the **** are you waiting on?
We sleep one third of our lives and we think we can take days off.
We think we have the right to sit back and give ourselves options on which way we're going to go in life.
Am I going to run today?
Am I going to work out today?
Well, it's Christmas.
It's New Year's.
It's my birthday.
Do you think time gives a **** that it's Christmas, that it's New Year's, that it's your birthday?
You're giving yourself too many ******* options.
Let me tell you one thing.
Time is running out.
Keep on sitting around wondering what you want to do.
You're just going to run out of time.
So make sure you do one thing.
Stop following the crowd.
They may take time off, but you can't afford to.
Stay home.
The comfort zone is dangerous.
When you're comfortable, you are at most dangerous.
You should never feel comfortable.
You should be happy and dissatisfied.
Anybody ever tell you, man, look, you know what?
Just be satisfied with what you got.
Don't believe him.
Get him away from you.
You should never be satisfied with what you got.
Because the attempt to give more makes you into something better all the time.
Don't take it for granted.
You know, every second you get, it isn't painful.
You should cherish.
I would always say, what would I tell my future son?
Because if I can't tell him to get through adversity right now, if I can't tell him to
keep pushing through, if I can't say if I don't live that, if I don't live through that,
how am I going to ever give him genuine advice one day to get through it on his own?
Yes, life can be overwhelming.
That's the way life works.
It is going to throw problems at you and it is going to throw them at you all at the same time.
This is the way life works.
But let me tell you, that does not mean give up fighting.
Let these challenges raise you up.
Let them elevate you.
Let their demands and their trials make you stronger.
Let the adversity you face today turn you into a better person tomorrow.
The person you can control.
People are not who you want them to be.
Kill your idols.
Sure, there are things we can learn from people, but people aren't going to be what you think
they are, what they should be.
Because you can't control other people.
You can't make them what you want them to be.
You can't make them who you want them to be.
The only person you can control is you.
So focus on making yourself who you want to be.
You guys need to understand what you don't have to do, all right?
You don't have to work hard.
You don't have to eat right.
You don't have to sleep right.
You don't have to do more than what's required of you.
You don't have to be a good teammate.
You don't have to be a good leader.
You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do.
But you also don't have to win.
You don't have to be a success in life.
So the greatest things in life is sacrifice and discipline.
And that's why so few people achieve great things.
Because they don't want to sacrifice.
They don't want to discipline for some greater.
So you see all these people that have great things in life that you look up to.
It's because they were sacrificed and disciplined long before you ever knew them.
That's the truth.
So don't get mad later when you create your whole storm and then it starts raining on you.
Surround yourself with dreamers and doers.
The believers and thinkers.
But most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness
within people when they don't see it in themselves.
Nothing in life is promised except death.
If you have the opportunity to play this game of life, you need to appreciate every moment.
A lot of people don't appreciate their moment until it's passed.
Faster, stronger, smarter, more humble, less ego.
Discipline your body.
Free your mind.
Get up early and go.
Get after it and you will become the person you want to be.
And you become that person through one small decision at a time.
If the game of break goes against you, don't let up.
Put on more steam.
If the game of break goes against you, don't let up.
Put on more steam.
In life with your goals, your dreams, your aspirations.
The things that you seek to do.
The things that you aspire to do.
The things that you want to accomplish.
Never forget, first and foremost, how brilliant you are.
Never forget the people that played a part in you getting in this position.
Never forget what you're made out of.
But on the road to success, on the road to accomplishment,
on the road to evolving and development.
If the game of break goes against you in life, the only favor I ask of you,
because in life, people don't burn out, people don't quit,
and people don't underachieve because of what they do.
People burn out, people quit, and people underachieve
because life makes them forget why they do it.
And so the only favor I ask of you,
if the game of break of life go against you, don't let up.
Put on more steam.
When you are struggling and you start thinking about giving up,
I want you to remember, and that is the power of hope.
The belief that something better is always possible
if you're willing to work for it and fight for it.
It is our fundamental belief in the power of hope
that has allowed us to rise above the voices of doubt and division,
of anger and fear that we have faced in our own lives.
Our hope that if we work hard enough and believe in ourselves,
then we can be whatever we dream,
regardless of the limitations that others may place on us.
The hope that when people see us for who we truly are,
maybe, just maybe, they too will be inspired
to rise to their best possible selves.
Your life is before you.
You fill these pages with your hopes,
with your passion, with your dreams.
You're right.
The greatest story ever told.
You cannot run from things.
You always find you.
The only way to beat it is to look in the mind's eye and make a new choice.
Mindset is the only thing that gets you through hard times.
When you make the decision to do what you want to do with your life,
just know this, because the family and the friends in your life do not share your vision.
But know this, only those that can see the invisible can do the impossible.
When you're balanced properly between order and novelty,
that manifests itself to you as deep engagement.
And that's a signal.
And it's not merely cognitive, it's way deeper than that,
that you're in the right place, doing the right thing at the right time.
And everyone wants that all the time.
The images of paradox are representations of that state of being.
So it's there for you, but there are preconditions that you strive to aim at the best.
And that has to be your fundamental ethos.
And it's a decision that, despite all of the calamities of being,
that your primary ethical obligation is to work for the betterment of yourself and others.
How come with 7 billion human beings in the world, you felt lonely?
How come you lack the sense of agency, control, authority in your life?
Why are we in so much emotional pain?
The loneliness, the lack of power, lack of control, the anxiety,
these are forms of emotional pain.
So my mantra on addiction is not why the addiction, but why the pain?
Where it actually is, is an attempt to solve a human life problem
that of emotional pain, loneliness, distress, anxiety, whatever it is.
And the real question then is, what happened in my life that we incurred pain?
And then how do we deal with our pain?
Because the addiction itself magnifies the pain.
It multiplies it, it increases it exponentially.
So it begins in pain, as Eckhart Tolle, the spiritual teacher says, and they end in pain.
You have to do the process.
The process is non-emotional.
It's just, you have to do it.
All right, so if you have to do something,
I don't have highs about it or lows about it.
I know it has to get done.
And if I let my emotions get involved in it,
it's not going to get done to its best abilities.
So if people say you got to love the process,
and then something comes in the process that you don't really love,
well, you have to do it.
You have to do it.
You take emotions out of it, and you do it.
The process is a non-negotiable thing.
The end result is not always there.
That win isn't always there.
You can go through the whole process that somebody went through,
didn't be as meticulous as you, and they may get that win.
Because winning has no loyalty to any of us.
You know, people that don't work as hard, they end up getting that win.
People that aren't as qualified for the job, they end up getting that win.
Do you stop the process?
No.
You continue to get more maniacal with the process over and over and over again.
Because it's through the humanities that you make contact with the magic of your culture.
And that makes you more than merely the child of your parents.
Because you are more than merely the child of your parents.
You're the child of nature, and you're the child of culture.
And until you understand what that means,
understand that you have two sets of parents,
like the divine hero always has two sets of parents,
you can't construe yourself properly as an individual.
You're not situated properly in the world.
You don't know what your responsibilities are.
You can't orient your values properly.
And you will suffer from that.
Because life is so difficult, you have to do something that's truly worthwhile
in order to justify.
From time to time, you may stumble, fall.
You will for sure count on this.
No doubt you will have questions,
and you will have doubts about your path.
But I know this, if you're willing to listen,
to be guided by that still small voice that is the GPS within yourself,
to find out what makes you come alive,
you will be more than okay.
You will be happy.
You will be successful.
And you will make a difference in the world.
If you do what it is that you're called upon to do,
which is to lift your eyes up above the mundane,
daily, selfish, impulsive issues that might beset you
and attempt to enter into a contractual relationship
with that which you might hold in the highest regard,
whatever that might be,
to aim high and to make that important above all else in your life,
that that fortifies you against the vicissitudes of existence
like nothing else can.
Truly believe that that's the most practical advice
that you could possibly receive.
When it all boils down to what it is,
mano y mano.
And if you ain't got no heart than me,
if you ain't been working harder than me,
if you ain't sacrificed more than me,
I'm gonna destroy you.
And I'm not retreating.
I'm not running.
I don't care what they say on faith.
We live by this and we die by this.
We don't retreat.
We don't run.
Every man must search his own soul.
You don't judge a person by where they stand
in times of comfort and convenience.
You judge them by where they stand
in times of challenge and controversy.
And if you ain't work like when you work for something,
it give you a different type of attachment to it.
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.
That's why cats can give up so easy.
They ain't got nothing invested.
And when a cat been sacrificed for something,
well, you're gonna have a cold day in hell
before you take it from him.
Whatever happened last week, happened last week.
Whatever happened last year, your girlfriend dumped you.
You gotta get up, look at the man in the mirror
and go, this is what I'm doing today,
whether they like it or not.
I don't give a f**k.
Everybody's focusing on the stupidity things
that they got on the news.
Don't watch the news no more.
I give you the real news.
You know what the news is about today?
You and how you're gonna conquer the world.
How do you become a king?
By taking it to the next ******* level.
By doing something outside your comfort zone.
There is a difference between passion and obsession.
When you're passionate, everybody cheers you up.
They're stoked for you.
Oh, you found your passion?
Awesome.
Follow your passion.
Live with passion.
Be passionate.
Chase your passion.
When you're obsessed, they're like,
why you gotta be so crazy?
Why do you always gotta get things so perfect?
Why do you spend so much time?
When you're obsessed, people think you're nuts.
If no one thinks you're crazy,
you're not yet operating to the outer limits
that really commission.
If it's hard, why do people do it?
You ask people who do fakes.
People who climb mountains.
Just for the sake of it.
Nobody paying to do it.
Just do it.
The people who go after their stuff,
what makes it worth it?
It's gotta be your passion.
You gotta love it.
It's gotta be what you are supposed to do.
You gotta write even if no one published your book.
Write because that was given to you to do.
You do what it is you're supposed to.
You're supposed to build something.
You're supposed to create something.
I don't know how to do it.
Learn.
Do whatever is required.
It's you, it's on you.
You gotta make that happen.
Nobody's gonna bring it to you on a silver platter
and say, here's your dream manifested.
No, it's hard.
Yes, it's hard.
It's difficult.
Yes, right.
And it's worth it.
I don't know what your future is.
But if you're willing to take the harder way,
the more complicated one,
the one with more failures at first than successes,
the one that has ultimately proven to have more meaning,
more victory, more glory,
then you will not regret it.
Whatever you choose for a career path,
remember the struggles along the way
are only meant to shape you for your purpose.
That when you're trying to avoid the pain,
when you're trying to avoid the struggle,
when you're trying to avoid the hard things,
in life, you are actively choosing to be average.
You are actively choosing to be mediocre.
And you are actively choosing to move further away
from what you want in life.
Because that hardship and that pain
and that struggle and that frustration,
they give you the skills that will forge you
into a champion.
When you quit, your mind does this.
When you quit, your mind says, we're done.
So it doesn't expand.
There's no expansion when you quit.
When you say, you, uh-uh, this sucks.
I'm drowning, I'm miserable, I'm suffering.
I'm broken, but I'm not going anywhere.
What happens to your mind is it does this.
It says, he's not leaving.
So we got to expand.
We got to grow.
We got to figure this thing out.
So then these compartments in your brain,
they have to work.
And then you start to engage parts of your mind
that you've never engaged before
when you're in suffer mode
and you say, I'm not going to quit.
You're forcing your brain now to operate.
On a level, it's not used to.
But then it becomes used to it.
Your biggest enemy is you.
People don't understand it's you against you.
The only person that gets in your way is you.
Nobody else.
You get one shot, one shot at this gig right here.
Life, one life.
That's all you've got.
And regret, in and of itself, it's worthless.
It does nothing for you.
In fact, the only valuable thing in regret
is the lesson you learned.
The knowledge that you did.
But walking around filled with regret gets you nothing.
So learn and move on.
Don't let regret eat you down.
Don't be a slave to regret.
Let it teach you.
Let it make you better.
I want you to stop thinking of things
in terms of sacrifice.
And I want you to start thinking in terms of investment.
All right, one of the biggest mistakes that you will make
as a human on a path to success,
whether that success be financially, physically,
spiritually, whatever it is.
We're success in all areas.
And I want you to understand that
when you miss the weekends with the guys
or miss the night out with the girls
or you pass on the trip or you do this,
you're not sacrificing anything.
You're actually making an investment
because the investment is delayed gratification
and you just haven't seen the payoff.
You don't have to force yourself or motivate yourself
to think negatively, to be depressed,
to beat yourself up over the head.
Your mind is on automatic.
It will do that by itself.
But if you want to begin to move
into your own personal greatness,
if you want to begin to really enjoy a happy,
successful, healthy life,
you've got to be willing to go against the tide.
You've got to be willing to harness your will
and say, in spite of this, I'm in control here.
I'm not going to let this get me down.
I'm not going to let this destroy me.
Let the fear of regret fuel you to take action today.
Now, to take action now to become a better person.
Not filled with regret, but filled with knowledge.
Filled with knowledge and strength and power
and filled with life.
The easy route never pays well.
The only route in life that pays well
is the hard route, the struggle, the pain,
the frustration, and the overcoming of those things.
And not only do they pay, they fulfill you as well.
I want to ask you a question,
and that is what is in your life's blueprint?
Number one in your life's blueprint
should be a deep belief in your own dignity,
your own worth, and your own somebodiness.
Don't allow anybody to make you feel that you are nobody.
Surround yourself with people whose eyes light up
when they see you coming.
Slowly is the fastest way to get you where you want to be.
And the top of one mountain is the bottom of the next.
So keep climbing.
The thing that's so interesting about being alive
is that you're all in.
No matter what you do, you're all in.
This is going to kill you.
So I think you might as well play the most magnificent game
you can while you're waiting.
Because do you have anything better to do?
Why not pick the best thing possible that you can do?
Because you're more powerful than you think.
Way more powerful than you think.
How much good can you do?
Well, I would say, why don't you find out?
If you can't fly, run.
If you can't run, walk.
If you can't walk, crawl.
But by all means, keep moving.
We all fail.
It's okay.
What is not okay is that when you fail, you stay down.
And winners will fail and get up.
Fail and get up.
You always get up.
That is a winner.
A lot of folk won't let you forget what you used to do
or what you have done, what mistakes you've made.
All of us have made some mistakes in life.
All of us have done some things
that if we had them to do over again,
we wouldn't do it again.
A lot of things that if I had it to do over again,
if I knew then what I know now,
I would have done it differently.
Well, it didn't happen that way.
Oh, you don't want me to live that down.
You ought to keep on putting that in my face
about what I did.
Guess what?
I'm not interested.
That's what I did then.
Won't do it today.
Here's what you should know about winning
before you chase it.
Winning's not loyal to you.
It doesn't care about you.
Winning doesn't care how sore you are.
Winning doesn't care how much sleep you get.
Winning doesn't care how hard you work at times.
Winning requires all of you and then more
and it promises you nothing.
It's a mastermind of creating fear and doubt in your mind.
It causes setback after setback.
So the question is about winning.
Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown?
And why chase this thing called winning?
Because the only thing that's guaranteed in life
if you don't chase it is losing.
Don't give up.
Don't let the world get you down.
When it does get you down, get up
and write what you want out of your life
and don't stop.
You know what I'm saying?
You get up and then you look in the mirror
and you tell that mirror, I'm a bad man.
And one way or another, I'm going to make it happen today.
Guess what?
If you keep writing it down after a while,
the thought all the time, you'll believe it.
Whatever happened last week buried under the carpet.
Just remember, you got to check on your skeletons
from time to time.
Or if not, they check on you.
You follow me?
Every single one of you who is struggling right now,
you need to understand this.
What you're going through right now is necessary.
It's necessary because what's happening right now
is you are forging in skills.
You are forging the determination.
You are forging the grit.
You are forging the fortitude.
You are forging all the things
that nobody else is gaining
because they're sitting on their hands
and you're willing to push through.
This fire you're feeling,
this frustration you're feeling,
this is what is going to make you into the weapon
that you are going to become
that will then build the life that you are out to build.
Do you know what I came to realize?
It's that fear, that's the worst of it.
That's the real enemy.
So yeah, get out in the real world
and you kick that as hard as you can right in the teeth.
Every day.
This isn't a part-time gig.
This isn't punch the clock and go home for the day.
You don't get weekends off, no.
Here, there's no such thing as a weekend.
This is an everyday gig.
Every day is a Monday.
You might not like it.
To me, every day is a beginning,
a new day, a new week, a new shot in life.
An opportunity to come out of the gate like a man possessed
and attack the day without mercy.
You're going to be deciding as the days and the years unfold
what you will do in life,
what your life's work will be.
Once you discover what it will be,
set out to do it and to do it well.
Doors are opening to each of you.
Doors of opportunity are opening to each of you
that were not open to your mothers and to your fathers.
And the great challenge facing you
is to be ready to enter these doors as they open.
And when you discover what you're going to be in life,
set out to do it as if God Almighty
called you at this particular moment in history to do it.
Set out to do a good job and do that job so well
that the living, the dead or the unborn couldn't do it any better.
