I'm not sure if he was in the wrong gear or just was sleeping, but no go out of that green
white car in row two.
I think in practice, we had about a second of fall off at this point, your point, either
driving cars, trying to make sure that they put less fuel in with the stop comes.
We got a car around the one of Chastain.
Wow.
Hard damage.
I wonder what happened here.
This had to be a disagreement of some sort of right front splitter fender damage.
Right rear corner of the tail.
First caution of the day.
Lap 18.
He's just blocking a little bit.
Everybody's fading a little bit left to block the entry and McDowell said, I'm not going
to get blocked today, man, but he ends up making a little bit of contact.
So I'm not sure if McDowell usually when you decide you're upset, a guy's blocking you.
You don't end up in the wreck yourself, but I didn't mean to hit him, but I didn't expect
him to jump on the brakes that fast.
Sorry.
Stay out.
Okay.
Or you were three, four tenths faster.
The guy's in front of you.
Couldn't pass him.
So take the clean air and drive off.
Paul Wolfe is the Mad Hatter a little bit.
Yeah, we'll get this restart underway.
First goal.
Keep that track position.
Then we can figure out exactly what the strategy is.
I have an idea, but the first goal is keep the track position.
Race off pit road.
Restarts road two.
Center at Logano.
Into turn one.
Yeah, three wide back in the pack.
A lot of cars trying to take advantage of these restarts.
This is a great opportunity to gain some track position.
Quickly pass cars.
You see Josh Berry fading back through.
A little bit of dust and debris.
Now, if you're Briscoe or Wallace, you're the opposite.
They know where they're going to rejoin and in a perfect world, they're going to get as
much fuel as possible and rejoin the racetrack right in front of chase Briscoe.
Last car on the lead lap.
That would be exactly what the 2 of the 22 are looking to do.
And now what you're going to do is you're going to see Cedric leave pit road.
You have to use the access lane in one of two.
He's seen some penalties there in the past, so he's going to really have to do his part
here.
The 19 is going to try to push the issue.
Here's the 21 coming to pit road.
You see the 22 who left pit road in front of the 19.
Last car on the lead lap.
So everything good.
Berry on the access road.
There's Cedric.
Berry did a nice job.
We'll see how fast he can run on the access road here.
There's Logano.
There's Briscoe.
So Berry should easily be able to stay in front of Briscoe.
They obviously didn't put quite as much fuel into the 21 car just to assure that he didn't
come off pit road getting lapped by the 19 of Briscoe.
While running part three of the racetrack.
He's running a lot less throttle.
Trying to keep this 43 car behind him.
Hey, if you want to pass me, go around the top.
He probably gives a little gas right here.
He says, no, you're not going by.
I'm going to meet you down in the corner.
So Bubba's running a lot less throttle.
You see how bad the area is for the 43 when he is behind that 23 car down in the turn
that tight?
That shows you, you know, the problem with the next-gen car when you're behind another
car directly.
The 47 is in house into the heart, into the outside wall hard with the right front.
We see this all the time.
Restarts here in Indy.
The field starts accelerating the back of the field, accelerating, anticipating.
He's behind the wall now.
Damage.
He has to fix a radiator.
Byron, big move on the 77.
A late move into the corner.
I love it.
If it works.
Yeah, that's the dive, Bob.
You're going to see more and more of that.
Larson was doing that all last year.
Getting through the field.
60 of Priest has pitted 48 Bowman on pit road now.
A big hiccup for the 60 of Priest.
16-second pit stop.
When he rejoined, he's a lap down now.
That is an absolute killer.
We'll see how Bowman does.
Their pit stop looked pretty clean.
I think they're going to be fine.
The 7 of Haley is also on pit road right behind the 48.
So two cars leaving pit road.
Blending relative to the 2 of Cedric, 48, okay.
7, not okay.
Not okay.
Lapdown for Justin Haley and Priest.
The green flag stops currently.
They've put them in a bad spot.
We've got a right rear tire issue on the 41 here, and, Steve, tire issues were a deal
last year.
As the teams got more aggressive, right, we started the race probably on the conservative
side, but we started taking air out of the rear tires to gain a little bit of grip.
24 sees that flat tire.
He's thinking the yellow is going to come out, but he jumps the pit road, hoping the
yellow flag waves.
Trying to pit before the yellow.
Oh, we've got a problem with the lead of the 2.
The 2 got a tire going down.
The right rear is flat on Cedric's car.
The front of the car is flat.
race track, Steve.
The 5 is trying to get by.
Yellow comes out.
He's unlapped himself.
Also, Justin Haley goes by.
He gets back on the lead lap.
Race leader having problems in the brickyard 400.
It's Austin Cedric.
See all the cars going by, unlapping themselves.
Will the tire car stay on the 2 or will it go on the racetrack?
Who jumps the pit road?
Right there.
It's coming apart.
If I can get the pit road up coming right now, this is disastrous.
We've got the car on the wall.
Right front tire is down.
Number 43.
Third caution of the day.
Second for incident.
Jacket's dropped, and then something makes him go back.
No good.
Like, if you have to go back and hit it again, the car has to be jacked up, as Dale pointed
out.
So it's a 15 or 16-second pit stop.
They're waiting on fuel.
That's just...
A lot of teams run open mics where you can just say, hey, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Jack it back up.
And this is what happens.
Wheel loose.
Oh.
Oh, my God.
We're going around.
They're actually putting four tires on the line.
Letting him go, Marty.
Keep it on the left-hand side of your screen.
Let's see where William Byron comes out with a teammate, Kyle Larson.
Also pitting right here.
They were going to wait on fuel.
They told him, we are not going to wait now.
They had a little bit of a lap advantage.
And now, watch the blend, Adam.
What's a bit confusing right now, because I thought the 24 is the best.
Will he get in front of Larson?
But the 22, Logano, is up the road again.
There's Larson, bottom right.
Upper left, William Byron.
So, the two-hander course.
Larson is going to have control.
Now, I think Cliff Daniels is going to have to tell Kyle Larson.
That bright yellow pencil paint scheme.
So famous here in Indianapolis.
Well, that's the guy you have to go run down.
Can Paul Wolf and Joey Logano find a way to take control of this race by a short green
blanket stop?
Look at this.
22, right rear down.
Dale, you talk about getting aggressive.
The race leader.
Well, technically not the race leader, but the leader on fuel has now had a flat tire.
Another car as well.
Cedric earlier was leading, and now the guy that was the leader in the cycle, once everything
came through, Joey Logano, tire problem, under green, 26 laps to go.
Might be laying in wait for these teams as they roll to die.
So, all the cycles around, Bubba Wallace in front of his teammate, Tyler Reddick.
Larson is now third in the running order, Barry up there with Byron, Hamlin, Briscoe.
Interesting collection of drivers inside the top ten, not just drivers, but the organizations
with which they represent.
Yellows out.
Caution, six laps to go.
Wow.
Safe hard.
Safe hard here.
Safe hard.
Ready to turn one, we're being told.
Reddick, blue car right there, turning left.
Briscoe coming with him.
They're hoping some guys will come.
Briscoe.
Briscoe looked in the mirror and said, ah, dang it.
He's coming with me.
He's on.
Oh, boy.
A great arc into turn one.
Will that work?
Will the momentum carrier have a chance?
Kyle Larson is there, coming off of turn two.
Bubba Wallace jumps out in front.
23 to the lead.
Larson won't be able to do the crossover down the back straightaway.
Behind, surprisingly, pretty calm for the front ten.
You see Blaney jump out alive.
But it's Larson and Bubba.
Oh, he got a crash in the back.
There it is.
There's the big wreck we're looking for.
The yellow out.
Zane Smith.
45, though.
And the 22.
Several cars getting damaged.
Keep coming.
That was just terrible.
Absolutely.
That is terrible is a great way to put it.
This time, the watch is really even between the 23 and the 5.
Side by side, door to door, down into turn one.
Gets it done again.
Back straightaway.
It's not going to be enough.
Wallace has enough fuel.
Hamlin is around by.
Deal with Steve.
24.
Into the playoff.
