Everywhere we turn we are reminded that success and happiness is attached to
something. But does it? Does having more really make us happier? This culture of
more and better which we have allowed to drive us has promised us happiness but
often delivers the opposite. Nowadays it's so easy to be physically present but
mentally and emotionally disconnected. We see multitasking as a skill instead of a
problem. We'd rather send a text than make a phone call. All in the name of
convenience. Often missing out on the present moment while searching for a
better future that we may never see. I believe many of the problems we are
trying to fix today should not be problems to begin with. We continue to
treat the symptoms ignoring the root cause of the problem. This lifestyle we
have chosen in this modern world is contributing to it. If we simply adjust
the way we live we can perhaps eliminate some of the problems we keep facing. If
we just learn how to lower our stress levels, balance our hormones, and bring
down our cortisol, we can probably be more available not just to those around
us but to ourselves. Years ago I found myself trapped in this cycle. I was
always rushing from one task to the next. Thinking I needed to do more to feel a
sense of fulfillment. This was normal because everyone around me was doing it.
Yet despite my accomplishments there was a sense of dissatisfaction and burnout.
The endless pursuit of more had left me feeling drained and unfulfilled and this
comes with a significant cost. The more we acquire the more we need to maintain
and this cycle over time can be exhausting. In the middle of feeling this
way I realized that I had lost touch with the beauty of life without even
knowing. I was operating an autopilot letting different voices take me to
whichever location was popular at the time and not listening to my creator. The
one that had the perfect plan for me. One day I came across the concept of slow
living and minimalism. A lifestyle about intentionality. Choosing wisely how to
spend your time, your energy and even your money. Selecting to live the
original way not the culture way. To some this might be an old-fashioned thing to
do but to desire less doesn't mean to settle for a life of deprivation. Rather
it means to shift your focus to what's important and make it a priority and
everything else needs to wait. When we learn to desire less we free ourself
from the burden of excess of wants and desires. Creating space for genuine
happiness. When I understood this truth I began to make small changes right away. I
started to declutter my entire life. Physically, mentally, emotionally and even
my spiritual life. Carving out time for stillness and reflection. To connect with
God. To connect with myself and to connect with my family and friends.
Aligning with my purpose outside of the status and belongings. I created and
allowed time to enjoy simple pleasures without the constant pressure to be
productive. It wasn't easy but letting go of the habits we create over time feels
uncomfortable and not normal. But slowly I began to feel a sense of relief and
clarity. A peace that only God can provide when we eliminate all the
unnecessary distractions to enjoy life with just enough. I have discovered a
profound sense of freedom both physically and mentally. The clutter that
once filled my space and mind has been replaced with clarity and purpose. I know
what I want and I know the life I want to live. I invite you today to take a
breather. Take a moment to reflect. This has nothing to do with perfection. It has
all to do with progression. Making intentional choices to enjoy your
journey. Not just the destination where you're heading. Thank you so much for
watching. Until next time.
