SpaceX officially announced NEW Major Design Cargo Starship To The Moon…
While most eyes are on the HLS variant, there’s another Starship quietly taking shape behind the scenes. NASA and SpaceX are also working on a cargo version called the Human-class Delivery Lander, or HDL. This isn’t just a side project, it’s a mission-critical piece of the Artemis 7 puzzle.
But that’s not all. HDL is expected to be the backbone of future cargo deliveries to the Moon, laying the groundwork for Moonbase Alpha.
With groundbreaking design, high-tech systems, and the ability to carry massive payloads, HDL could be one of the most advanced Starship variants we’ve seen yet.
So what makes the HDL design so special? And when will it be officially revealed?
Let’s break it down in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.
SpaceX officially announced NEW Major Design Cargo Starship To The Moon…
More than half a century after NASA’s last human Moon landing with Apollo 17, the journey back to the lunar surface is now filled with renewed excitement. Technology has come a long way since then, rockets are more powerful, spacecraft are smarter, and our ambitions are bigger than ever. And it’s clear: the U.S. is ready to lead the way once again.
At the center of this return is a game-changing spacecraft: the Human Landing System, or HLS.
SpaceX officially announced NEW Major Design Cargo Starship To The Moon…
We all know NASA and SpaceX have been racing to get the Human Landing System, or HLS, ready in time, because this is the spacecraft that will deliver astronauts and cargo to the Moon’s surface. The first HLS contract was awarded back in 2021, giving them just seven years to get everything up and running, if the U.S. wants to stay ahead in this renewed space race.
Now, on paper, Starship HLS’s capabilities are impressive. SpaceX says it can land up to 100 tons of crew and cargo on the Moon in a single flight.
But that’s just the start. For what SpaceX really has in mind, building permanent infrastructure, and eventually launching missions to Mars, we’re talking about moving hundreds of tons, not just once, but regularly.
