Jesus calling a rosé with some
jalapenos. Some kind of a kooky outfit.
Really? It's like the Brley King starter
kit.
Riley is not actually a gold digger.
You're just funny.
It's a bad thing when they not talking
about you. So my dad ran the fair for
days. It's like it's so redneck. It
hurts. Oh my god. My attorney is going
to be like cute dummy. I disappointed my
parents. I was one of eight students
accepted into the school of music
theater.
Men are not talking about mental health
enough. Marcus too, you know, his whole
last record was really dark and about
his mental health, and this next one's
about me, thank God. So, you know, it's
going to be good. Big secret to
relationships is just step outside
between the hours of 8 and 10 a.m. I
started doing that every morning. It
changed everything. When I turned 30, I
was like, "Okay, it's clicking. I'm
about to have the time of my life." I
hear that from people all the time. It
just made sense. Like, why don't I start
a trucker hat company? I don't think any
business owner will say they started
their business and it was easy, right?
No. I'm going to go get my hair done,
nails done, Botox, and eyebrows. That's
all that
Nothing will make you feel better than
that.
Exactly. And then I'll play my Sabrina
Carpenter and drink my French 75 and
take over the world. Hi y'all. Welcome
back to the House guest podcast. Welcome
to my house guests who are listening in.
This week, you guys, we are in for quite
the treat. We have my friend Brley King
on the show. I am obsessed with Brley.
We became friends via TikTok a couple
years ago. I love that woman. She is
truly the coolest girl in the world.
She's an amazing friend. She's so nice.
She's so creative. She's so genius.
She's talented. She's cool. She's so
original. Like she does this herself. I
really appreciate someone who is fully
themselves. Like 100%. It makes everyone
else around them like feel more
comfortable to be themselves as well.
And like that is just Brley for you. She
is just the best. I love her and you
guys are going to absolutely love her.
You might know her from Tik Tok. You
might know her from her iconic hats that
are everywhere. You might know her from
her music. Honestly, it could be like
literally anything from Marcus. Like
there's so many things that you might
know for, but honestly, her Tik Tok is
like one of the funniest Tik Toks out
there. And I just love her and I'm so
excited she's coming over today and
we're just going to chat on the chairs
in Nashville. If you guys are listening
to the podcast and you have yet to watch
us on YouTube, you should be watching on
YouTube because it is a whole
production, let me tell you. And it is a
stunning, stunning setup. We are here
today in my home in Nashville,
Tennessee. And it's just it's truly like
the Nashville episode of all Nashville
episodes. So, I hope you guys enjoy. I
love you guys so much. And let's welcome
Bryley on to the show. Brley King, the
coolest girl in the world. Welcome to
the podcast.
I'm a house guest. Thanks for having me.
Finally. It really took us long enough
to have you here.
Yeah, just a couple months, but
I know
we've gotten out and we've gotten
together. That's all that matters.
We have gotten together. That is all
that matters.
Now, we're checking the next box. It's
very exciting.
I love your place, by the way. These
Thank you.
The chairs are very comfortable.
They're literally from Wayfair.
I saw I saw your Tik Tok. I'm obsessed.
My probably 3,000 Tik Toks that I made
about these chairs. You know, when I
like something, I do like it all the
way.
They're really really comfortable.
See, this is more than anything. This is
a Wayfair ad, guys.
I know. I know. I know. But anyway, to
to drive your engagement up on those
ads.
Thank you.
We should uh keep this in there cuz this
is these really are really nice.
We're always looking to up that
conversion rate,
right? anything for that conversion
right now. Absolutely.
So, you and I met a couple years back at
this point. It probably would have been
like two years.
Yeah.
We followed each other on TikTok.
Mutuals on Tik Tok.
Mutuals. And we started DMing all the
time. Then we started texting all the
time. Then we were a audio messaging. It
was a little hard for us to remember
like when we actually met because we
were like legitimate friends before we
met. Yes.
Like we were like talking about like
actually like deep stuff. We were doing
the whole thing and then we got lunch
with Kate. Oh my gosh, it's storing
outside. What is up with this Tennessee
weather, Riley?
Dude, it's been raining a lot, hadn't
it?
Yeah. Mhm.
And as like a girl who's currently
depressed, right?
It's not doing It's not being helpful to
me.
You need a covered porch or something.
Yes.
So you could be outside. No, I know. It
has been raining a whole lot.
It's kind of lame. Which I just got back
in from Colorado, so I did Did it rain
this weekend? Cuz if so, I missed it
all.
You probably It needs to stop. Or we
need to find a hobby
in the rain.
In the rain. What should we do?
I don't know. Do we pull a Drew
Barrymore and go out there and just sing
and dance in it? Because
honestly, Riley, like as like two
mentally unwell girlies, there's also a
fly circling your head.
Yeah. Yeah, I'm cool with it. It's It's
feeling the energy.
Totally
stank ass over here. You know, have you
seen those videos of Drew more just
swirling in the rain?
Riley, we need to do that.
I do it. Come to my house. I literally
Yes. The other day I was like, you know
what? because I was um trying to seal my
Facebook Marketplace table, my outdoor
table, and it starts raining. I'm like,
you know what?
Let it rain. Let it pour. I just got new
outdoor speakers installed, so it could
it could do anything. And I'll still
backyard the upgrades, the photos that
you sent me recently. Loving this. It's
looking so good.
I've got my pair out there.
Love the pair.
Um which we I feel like I need to talk
about the pair because
Can we
That is Yes.
This is the perfect place, too.
I get a perfect place.
Uhhuh. to talk about the perfect pair. I
get so many DMs like what's up with the
pair? And I there's really nothing. It's
like the story is not that cool. But
when I first moved to Nashville or like
maybe first visited Nashville, Marcus
took me over to this really rich
person's house and they had a pair in
the center of their dining room table
and I was like, "Okay, love that." that
because it was a color drenched room and
a huge pop that chartreuse and I love
chartreuse like lime green any kind of
color like that and I was like all right
one day I'm going to have me a bombass
dining room with a pair on my dining
room table and so when we bought our
house recently I went and got me a pair
then recently uh Callie Hardy Hardy
Michael Hardy's wife
texted me and was like
guys ignore the storm
sorry about
our front door right now Yeah.
Anyways, Callie texted you some
pictures.
Callie Hardy texted me just this picture
of a pair and she was like, "This is at
HomeGoods and I was like, "Are you
buying that?" Because I will go get it
right now. And I literally sped in my
car. Went and got that pair. My aunt
texted me. She was like, "I saw your
story that you found a concrete pair.
There's one at the HomeGoods here." And
so I'm like, "Everyone buy the pairs."
Like, if you know the lore, buy the
pairs. There is no lore. It was just a
rich person had one on their table. And
I was like, I want a pair.
So good.
It actually looks super. Yeah. I love
it. It's just so weird. Now, hers was
like a piece of art type pair. Now,
mine's like timu pair. I got it off a
website where like you, if you own a
restaurant where you would go to get
like the giant fruit, the front, you
know, like the, you know, that huge chef
that people like in the 90s and early
2000s would have at their door like
those kind of like figurines. Anyway,
that's where I got it from. If anyone's
looking, make sure you measure. Mine's a
lot larger than I was expecting. It's
like half the table, but it looks
incredible. It's gonna be great. Like,
we still need to have our dinner party.
Yes. Yes. My drapes are being made right
now. So, um, as soon as they're up, I'm
ready because I'm like, in my mind, I'm
planning, my assistant really wants to
be the butler and greet people. She's a
very special human. And she wants to
dress up and wait on us. We'll have uh
drinks inside, dinner outside. Me and
you, we're gonna crush it.
It's gonna be so perfect. I already have
like a I have a mood board in my head.
And does it involve mushrooms? Cuz you
know I bought like 25 mushrooms from
Pottery Barn that light up at night. I
thought I told you.
Um you haven't told me about the
mushrooms, but like I'll be adding those
immediately.
And they're still available and on like
extra extra clearance if you need any.
So they're battery powered. They're so
cute.
I love that. I can think about I have
some stuff like that on Pinterest.
Cute.
Obsessed. Obsessed. Okay, so we became
friends a while back. Then we went to
lunch and then now here we are. I'm in
Nashville.
Yes. Riley was like the first person
that I told. I texted her that morning
and I was like, "Hey, do you happen to
be in town right now? I extended my
trip. I'm leaving tomorrow, but I also
think I'm moving." And then you were
like, "Yeah, let's go get dinner." And
that was it.
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And you were like,
"I think I'm going to move here." And
then Oh, while we were at dinner, you
got the text that this place was
available, right?
Oh, yeah. Like, literally, we were
together. Incredible.
Yeah. Wow.
Right in the stars.
Yes. And in the storms.
And in the storms. Truly. Okay. So, we
have so much to talk about. I feel like
people don't know you and like your
actual lore. Something that you're
really good at on the internet is like
taking the narrative and just leaning
in. Like all the gold digger stuff.
Like Riley is not actually a gold
digger. You're just funny.
And that's so much funnier than like
getting offended 24/7. It's funnier.
I did.
Absolutely.
For a long time.
And even if you still do, that's fine.
But it's funnier like
in a response. I just think it's like
taking the like narrative back.
Yeah. Yes, that was like a huge thing.
Which this when we met, I was still kind
of going through it um through the
Reddit thing. But yeah, I was like,
wait, the internet is writing the
narrative for me that I'm a gold digger.
And it was like it would just poison my
mind so bad that like I would convince
myself that I was a gold digger, that I
was ugly or whatever, you know, whatever
they were saying that week. And I yeah,
I had to take the narrative back and I
was like, you know what? I'm just gonna
lean into it. And it's been hilarious
ever since cuz
so good.
They got to come up with something else.
Like talk about how ugly my knees are.
Like find something else and you know
here they are. Just find something else.
Anyway, yeah. Not actually a gold
digger. So before Marcus and I met I was
working at a bank like I had a nice
corporate job and then you know a star
is born situation happened. Marcus and I
met and whole life changed and I had to
like kind of learn how to deal with the
public's opinion coming from like a desk
job to like everybody has an opinion on
everything you do. And so that was just
weird. And when I like came to terms
with that's the way it's going to be for
the rest of my life and that it's
actually a good thing because it's a bad
thing when they're not talking about
you, you know.
Amen.
So, so when I came to terms with it, I
was like, "Oh, wait. I can be myself
again. And I don't know. I feel like I
just now like got back online like with
it with the new year.
Like I'm like, "Okay, I want to be funny
and silly and be myself again instead of
like OOTDs with just sound over it cuz
there's just so much more to me to talk
about. I mean, you were so funny. You
have so much personality even in like
the OOTDs with music. Like you can tell
like it's you were so
you just are so yourself which is such
an amazing quality. It's also pretty
rare.
Yeah.
So, it's easier to attack at the same
time, too. Like, we always talk about
like you're not like a cookie cutter
anything. Yeah. You know, and like
people just are mad. That's fine.
Yeah. I I also in the beginning like
when I when Marcus and I got married and
um obviously I wasn't working anymore. I
was like, "Okay, well, I have to find a
way to, you know, fulfill this hole
that's now in my heart after working for
so long that when I got online surgeon
showing what I was wearing to shows and
stuff, I was like, this is not
fulfilling either." When I was trying to
be like an influencer type, it just like
it wasn't natural to me and I had a hard
time. So, that's when I like quit. Like
I my voice would change. I would just
not sound like myself or try to be like
super pitchy or super salesy and that is
never how I would act, you know,
normally. So that like was hard to
accept like, okay, I'm not built to be
an influencer because that that job is
like way way way hard. That's when I
started my trucker hat line. And anyway,
I've just had these like roller coaster
of emotions of like I love the internet.
I hate the internet. I love the
internet. And now I'm just like I don't
really care anymore. Say what you want,
you know?
Mhm. I do feel like you're in a way
better place than at least you were like
last fall.
Yes. Yeah. When you when we met, I think
I was in the ultimate pit of it. Like
ultimate pit. I remember I was like 86
lbs at the time. I have these Zara
jeans. I like always pull them on to see
how you know that one pair of jeans you
have where you're like, "Okay, if these
don't button, something's up." Or if
these feel too big, something's up. But
I have this pair of Zara jeans. I
remember exactly what I was wearing that
day. And um they were like loose as
hell. There's a video of me that on
stage that night and they looked like so
baggy and these are supposed to be like
super tight jeans. That's when we met.
And yeah, when my mom came to town like
a month later after that, she moved me
into our new house and it's like a
blossom. I don't know. I just was like,
I can be myself again. I can start over,
you know.
But what do you really feel like you did
at that point? Cuz I feel like you did
stop reading Reddit.
I did. I I got sober from Reddit. Um
what else? Um, oh, um, Charlie Star,
Blackberry Smoke, uh, a a band and a
friend of ours, his wife Christine, she
gave me all these supplements and, um,
like all this advice and I have this
whole email. I need to send it to you,
especially if you're going through it,
but all this advice about natural like
remedies to take, but number one being
step outside between the hours of 8 and
10 a.m. and like that. I started doing
that every morning and it changed
everything for me. I mean that sounds so
dumb that and download the Merlin Bird
app. I'm not even kidding.
What is this app?
This app that I like post about daily.
You literally open it and press a red
button record and it's just starts
listening and it'll identify every bird
that's around you. So like in the
morning like I don't it was just
something to look forward to
that. Oh my god. setting up bird feeders
like so I have one like on my porch so
birds can come up and I have the same
cardinal almost feels like a pet like
the same cardinal comes up every day
he's bald so I know it's him his name is
Randy and his wife is Geraldine after
Miranda Lambert's songs
of course
so anyway that like all just really like
sounds so dumb also birding is like the
cheapest like hobby and hit a dopamine
you can get it's cheaper than weed so
there you go
but I say that now I'm going need
another start another company to keep up
with feeding them all cuz I'm like I'm
at the bird store like yes what here
would attract uh indigo bunting like
the guy told me you can't you can't get
them back and they've been back every
day since binge
so no it's it seems very grounding like
I need to do something like that I
trusting Tennessee like my routine in
Texas I'm so good because you know I'm
so like mentally illrone
like so I do I do so many things to just
stay at like an operating level. Yeah.
And now that I'm here and I'm out of
like my normal routine, I feel like is
when it goes downhill because I'm out of
that routine and then I just lose it and
then once I'm bad, I just like don't
leave the house.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, you're and at that
point you're you're like bedrotting and
depressed and your body's in like fight
or flight mode and you're probably not
eating the best. I taking I don't know
if you take Armra.
Yeah, I need to be consistent. It helped
me a lot. Helped like my energy levels.
I wasn't so reliant on caffeine. Yeah,
there there's a number of number of
things. But the most
This storm is crazy. I don't know if you
guys can hear this, but like it's a
really wild I didn't even know it was
going to rain today.
I didn't either, but it's Nashville. Why
are we not surprised?
So true.
Anyway, I don't even know what I was
saying, but uh Oh, Arma. Yeah. Not to
get all addy, but it was just like a
bunch of supplements. And I swear
getting outside and listening to birds
and knowing like what birds were around
me like healed me. It was a hobby, you
know, something different to do than sit
inside. And when we moved, um, our new
house has all this sunlight. The our
other house, it was so dark in there.
And that was like what I was craving was
sunlight and, uh, and birds. And so
that's It sounds so corny, but birding.
I'm I'm here to influence
the number
influence everyone to start birding.
Yeah. Yeah. It's fun and like it no
matter where you are like if you're
traveling like when we were in Colorado
just open the app and it'll listen and
I'm like what is that bird a house
sparrow? Cool. I don't get those at my
house. That's interesting.
Yeah. See I get how this would be
helpful.
Yeah.
And it just it's anything that's like
kind like it's mindful or mindless.
Right. Right.
Look, we don't we don't have TVs in any
of our rooms except for the living room
and the um in our basement, but I that
was one thing I was really really I feel
like since we're your house like I need
to lean into my house things, but we um
when we lived with Rick Rubin when
Marcus was recording Mood Swings, his
previous record, we stayed lived stayed
with Rick Rubin and there were the walls
were white, the ceilings were white, the
floors were white,
no art on the walls. Um, no TVs,
nothing.
I remember you telling me this after
like I remember that so vividly thinking
like this is insane.
It's It sounds insane, but like you see
why like Kim K's house is like that too
because it was like so it was so
cleansing like I can't I can't describe
it like you are just with your thoughts.
The furniture is very minimal like kind
of even on the floor.
Um the kitchen is original to the house
but anyway it was just lacking in
technology. you're able to disconnect.
And so when we moved, I was like, I
wanted this house to be the same way. So
I never watch TV. Like sometimes like if
if Southern Charm or um there's like a
new housewives series, I like binge
watch that um whenever the season's over
and call it a day. But yeah, I just like
I'm outside 24/7. I'm getting pigeons.
It's incredible.
I I just got the little house built
today, but yeah, I'm getting I'm going
to go get pigeons. Speaking of bad raps,
you know, I was like, I feel like I got
bad rap a bad rap on the internet. Like
people weren't very nice to me. Pigeons
have a bad rap. You know, like
everyone's like, "Pigeons are nasty."
But they're not.
They're just misunderstood. So
misunderstood. Earnest wife texted me,
"Hey, two pigeons that need a home.
Would you be open to adopting them?" Um,
and it didn't end. She ended up taking
them. And I was like already prepped and
ready. Like I wanted the pigeons. So now
I ended up adopting pigeons and go pick
them up tomorrow. But Martha Stewart had
pigeons. Mike Tyson had pigeons.
I do know about Mike Tyson having
pigeons actually.
Yeah, I he had a lot. But um yeah, I'm
just going to do two. But
I need to come see the pigeons.
You have to come see the pigeons and and
my and my porch. And then we'll get set
up on the Merlin app. And I got one of
those crazy feeders with a camera on it.
See, this is like I'll go spend 2
minutes at your house and this is what
I'll have soon.
Yeah.
Obsessed with that. But even that's too
much for me. Back to the whole
technology thing. I told I texted my
mom. I was like, "Dude, it's taking me
like two weeks to put this bird feeder
together and to get it connected to
Wi-Fi. Sometimes it'll disconnect." Like
hate that thing sometimes.
No, I'm horrible. If it has a remote or
anything, like it's just absolutely not.
Oh my god, the fans. I can't get some of
the fans to turn on cuz I can't find the
remote.
No, it's horrible.
Same candles. Like I got It's too much.
It's too much.
It's literally like actually the worst
thing ever.
Too much. Okay. I want to go back to
like you as a child even prior to
meeting Marcus cuz you met Marcus when
you were 30, right?
Yes.
Okay. So, you had a whole life before
this that I think people know nothing
about.
Daughter of a long haul trucker. Where
are you from? Like just fill in the
girls.
From North Carolina. Um Kinston, North
Carolina where Jamie Presley, Jerry
Stack House, just to name a few. Marcus
uh had a huge crush on Jamie Presley.
That would be his celebrity crush
growing up. And I'm like, "Oh, lucky for
you. I know her." And I got to introduce
him to, uh, her, so that was cool. But,
um, yeah, I grew up just in a really
small town where my parents live or even
a stoplight. They live at the stop sign.
And yeah, dad, mom worked a desk job,
dad ran the road, and I was a music
theater cheerleading like freak. I had
my hand at everything. I was playing
softball, cheerleading, all the
community plays. I would that we did
plays at the airport. Oh wow.
Yes. I would go sing for nursing homes,
birthday parties, anything. You name it,
I was doing it. So dancing. What else
was I doing? Just a lot. I've always
like been really hyperactive.
And um yeah, so my childhood was real
whimsical.
My brothers raced motocross and ATV, so
we had a motocross track named after my
dad. My dad ran the fair
going for days. It's like it's so
redneck it hurts. Sometimes people
comment and say I'm faking my accent and
I'm like I'm trying so hard to dull it
down.
Definitely knew.
Yeah. Only they knew after after a
couple white claws how bad it is.
If we'd had that rosé, they would really
Yeah, it would. They they have no idea
what's
have a field day. Yeah, absolutely. It's
bad. It's bad. But yeah, anyway, you
know, I'll talk for for days about
childhood anything. So,
yeah. I've had an interesting childhood
and my families, they all still live
there about like an hour from the coast.
So, I love going home and visiting
there, but I do love it here in
Nashville now that I'm like settled, you
know what I mean?
Well, then you had a full career.
Yeah. Yeah. I went to I went to ECU,
East Carolina University. I was one of
eight students accepted into the school
of music theater. Got there and was not
live loving it. And um I I disappointed
my parents but switched my major and did
um broadcast media like digital
communication. So graduated from there,
got a job. You know, I actually had Have
you ever had anyone work for as a
recruiter? Like a tech recruiter? That
was my first job out of college. Oh my
god. You've You don't know anyone that
was a technical recruiter?
No. Sorry. I know a lot of people who
are recruiters. I thought you meant Have
I ever worked with a recruit?
No. Yeah. No. like like in the early
days of recruiting. I mean, this was
like 10 years ago, you know.
No, all my friends who are recruiters,
by the way, they just drink
all the time. Yeah. Yeah. With their
boss.
Yeah.
Yeah. Oh my god. It was the worst job
I've ever had. Hopefully the culture is
better. Like I don't know what the
situation is, but the company I worked
for was a [ __ ] show. Um I was not there
very long and then moved into like
project management role and then that's
how I ended up like at the bank. I was
living in in Charlotte. I found a little
shack off of Craigslist and was living
the dream with a two bed, one bath, $895
a month for rent
in this economy.
God bless.
Then Marcus said, "Will you marry me?"
And I was like, "I really don't want to
give this place up, but thank God I did
because it just blew up the other day."
Oh, Riley, what?
Yeah, for real. Oh my god. My attorney
is going to be like, "You dummy." But
yes, my well ended up I thought it was
my house but ended up being my neighbor.
He poured gas or did something blew his
whole house up.
Wait, that's horrible.
Yeah. And mine went with it.
Oh, okay.
So, thank God I moved out.
No, actually.
But it was like it was bad. Like the
laundry was outside. Not that it was
bad, but it just like wasn't ideal.
There were a lot of roaches.
Mhm.
But, you know, if your neighbors got
roaches, you're gonna have roaches. So,
Absolutely.
But, I loved it. It was It was the best.
I like had decorated it my way. So cool.
I miss it. But yeah, I loved Charlotte,
by the way. If you're if you ever get a
Inkland to is it England? Is that the
word?
In England to go.
Yeah. If you ever want to leave
Nashville, try somewhere else. I loved
Charlotte. So,
love that.
Great. Great city. Yeah. Lived in
Raleigh, too, for a little bit, but I
liked Charlotte better.
I'm going to Wilmington this weekend.
I love Wilmington. That's like an hour
away from where I'm from. Have family
there.
Winry Hill was filmed there.
Exactly. You know, that's my favorite
show ever.
Is it really?
Yes.
Oh my gosh. I'll have to introduce you
to um Bevon
from the show. Bevon Prince is a friend
of mine.
Is she the one who owns the Spven Studio
or whatever?
Yeah.
Okay. I have another mutual friend with
her then.
Cool. You got to go. You recess is her.
Yeah. I love her and her sister. Uh her
whole family. They're all They're all
awesome. But
that's incredible.
I'm waiting for them to reboot that by
the way. I want to be on it.
We will talk about fair because I Yeah,
there's
Oh, you have insider info? Well, I have
Yeah, they there is something that's in
the works. It's been public. Like that's
not like insider. It's just like public,
but there is some seems to be some tea.
Sick.
Anyway, okay. So, you are doing this
career. You're living in this house.
You're like dating other people and then
you meet Marcus.
Yeah.
And then your whole life changes cuz you
guys got engaged like pretty quickly
too.
Yeah. We were together for like seven
months.
See is how I'm trying to be.
See? Yeah. See, I told people I mean
like dating these days is like I don't
know. Especially with his lifestyle, it
was like you're dating about as quick as
you do on the Bachelor because you're on
top of each other 24/7. If I was
traveling with him, we were on the bus
all the time. So, you get to know people
pretty fast that way. But also,
you know, I hate saying when you know,
you know, but
you kind of do, you know.
Does that just mean you feel peace? Like
what does that mean?
Yeah, I think you feel peace. I think
you feel like, "Wow, this person isn't
going to hit me or this person isn't
going to haul off and do drugs." I don't
know. It just feels right. Like
everything just oddly clicks. It's not
really something I can put into words,
but I don't know. Trust everything is
there and it's mutual, you know? Like
you never ever have to guess what the
other person's thinking because they're
so vocal and they tell you how much, you
know, how much they like you, how they
feel. So that's at least that's how it
was for me like there was there just
were no games. I don't know dating don't
you do you feel like like there's a lot
of games like
who how long how long do I wait till I
text him or till he texts me and that
was like
not a thing and I don't play that game
like if you text me I'm texting you back
immediately and if you don't like it
then it's not the one. Yeah. So that's
why it didn't work out with all the all
the others and MK he quick to respond.
So, I just said, you know, there's no
games. It's just it's easy. It's not
supposed to be hard.
Can you take us through the story of how
you guys met?
Yeah, he he slid in my DMs, shot me a
freaking fire emoji at 5:00 in the
morning. I'm like getting up for work or
I don't know, just cracking my eyes open
for something. Probably reaching for a
glass of water and after drinking a
whole bottle of pino noir or some [ __ ]
the night before talking about
recruiters drinking a whole lot. I feel
like everybody in the corporate world
drank, but anyway. Yeah, I just woke up
to a couple fire emojis. And he liked
all my photos. And I replied and was
like, "That's all you got? Fire emoji?
Let me take you to dinner in August."
This was in July. And I was like, "Hell
no, I might be married by August." You
know, I'm crazy.
And anyway, I he was like, "Well, come
to my show." Uh, so I went to a show the
next night and we met and he was just
such a gentleman. So sweet. took his
cowboy hat off. He like took me on the
stage. It was after the show was over
because everyone was kind of sitting on
top of each other. Takes me on the stage
and
he's like, "Look, isn't this so cool?
All the lights." And he takes his hat
off. He's like, "Can I kiss you?" And I
was like, "You know what? Yeah, you
can." I love a gentleman. Like I just
love a proper gentleman. So anyway, rest
was history. He was driving off. It was
like a movie, a sad movie. Like, "Bye.
See you never." And then the next
morning text me, "You should quit your
job and marry me." Wow. Yeah. I was
like, "Why can't I have both?" And I do
now. I have my own company and and a
husband.
That's actually so sweet.
Yeah. But he was just very
straightforward all the time.
Yeah.
With all the time with his feelings and
still to this day very much is. So big
secret to relationships is just and I'm
you know me, I'm a very straightforward
person anyway. So we keep it we keep it
100 in the King household.
Yeah. I Being direct is like the best
thing ever.
Yeah. Your life then takes like a 180.
Yeah.
So, what was that like? You're moving to
Nashville, you're getting married,
suddenly everyone's looking at you, like
your husband's career is taking off.
Yeah. It was way harder than I thought
it would be and way quicker. Like the
day we got married, the next day an
article was posted uh people or
somewhere and then something was like on
the sun or something like that. my
iCloud was instantly started being
hacked. Like I I don't know like the
social media everything just popped off.
Like people overnight know who you are
and care and hate you like I don't know
it was just crazy. So that was a huge
adjustment. then moving to Nashville
having no friends like really nobody to
call when because he you know he travels
so much and I don't I couldn't go all
the time um starting my trucker hat
company and so it was just like I don't
know it was it was hard but I'm glad
that it happened to me at the age that
it did because at 30 I was so sure of
who I was and there was like you know no
budget on my part so everything I signed
up for I knew what I was getting myself
into so you know it wasn't as painful I
think as it would have been, you know,
if I was further along, like deeper in
my career, because that would have been
harder to quit. I mean, quitting was
hard enough, but um but also in my 20s,
like not really knowing who I was cuz,
you know, it's different for everybody,
but when I turned 30, I was like, "Okay,
it's clicking. Like, I'm about to have
the time of my life."
I hear that from people all the time.
They're like, "Literally, I woke up on
my 30th birthday and I just didn't care
about anything anymore and I felt
great."
Yeah. Yeah. Like I I don't I just, you
know, I didn't care about dating. I'm
like I also wasn't like the right guy's
going to find me, you know? I was just
like wasn't looking just quit like
everything fell in my lap. I don't know.
I don't know. I maybe I have a a dream
dream story, but that's just how it
worked for me. And yeah, the moment I
quit caring, the moment everything fell
into place. Not saying that it has to be
30, but you know, that's when it
happened for me.
So, absolutely.
I don't know. Yeah, it's been it's been
a wild ride.
We should talk about the Chucker Hats
because those have really taken on a
life of their own. and they're like
quite literally everywhere. It's like so
insane. I feel like every time I open
Instagram, it's someone else wearing the
hat.
Dude, um I was downtown for CMA Fest and
I hadn't been downtown the daylight in a
minute. But Post Malone of you know he's
has worn them and he was wearing it on
the side of a building on like a
billboard downtown for the I think it
was the Country Music Hall of Fame. I
don't know. But I was like, "Holy,
that's crazy."
A big thanks to Laney Wilson for that
one. I uh I sent her uh a hat when she
and Marcus were writing together and
they've actually their song is coming
out probably right around the time this
airs, but a song they wrote together and
I was like, "Hey, will you give her
these hats?" And this was obviously a
couple years ago and Post Malone saw her
wearing it was like, "Where'd you get
that?" And so she hit Marcus up. I sent
them to her and she gave them to him and
rest was history. And now like I'm so
grateful for her. So grateful Bunny
Jelly Roll's wife. She has helped me
like adapt to this life big time.
I love her. She's my favorite.
Love her. She That's like if something's
something's wrong, like when especially
when I was dealing with the Reddit stuff
and the gold digger stuff and it was
really taking me down. That was like my
first phone call. I'm like, "How do you
do it? Write a book." Thank God she is.
I'm like, "Write a book. We need a
manual." Yeah. Of how to deal with this
because, you know, she she's a
superwoman. And anyway, I'm grateful for
her support. She wears my hats a lot,
too. And D um I don't know. It's really
taken off. But it really the in
inception of it was just seeing the
feathers on Marcus all the time and my
dad being a long haul truck driver. So
it just made sense like why don't I
start a trucker hat company. It took me
a while to do but I was like very
meticulous making sure everything was
right. I'm still still learning still
calling you. I think that's why we
connected um like the first time because
uh how I got your cards right. You sent
me your cards and I was like wait who is
fulfilling Yeah. who's doing your stuff
because I was doing everything myself.
Well, that's what I was about to say is
that I don't think people realize how
much you were doing because like even
with friend of mine like I went into it
like there's no one who's like employed
so like we're still in such early phases
but I do have a fulfillment center. I do
have people on retainer. We have
designers like we have people that we
work with just more in like a retainer
sense. When Bryley's calling me and I'm
like oh you have literally no you're
fulfilling the orders you're doing this.
You're doing like no wonder. I'm like,
you cannot handle all that and you're
touring half the time and you're doing
this. Like, you have so many other
things going on. You really put your
heart and soul into this,
dude. I mean, to the point that like it
there I my energy levels were so low.
Like, the bedrock was so bad. Like,
there would be days I could only pack
like four orders and I had a thousand to
get out the door cuz like usually on on
average I could get a a couple hundred,
however many the USPS truck could fit. I
mean, the my USPS driver became my best
friend. She would come in when she'd
come cuz she'd deliver the mail, then
come back and come in and help me pack
orders.
Wow.
So that I could get as many out as
possible with the little bit of energy
that I had. Yeah. I was doing I had to
get a fork forklift at one point to get
because the I had like 10,000 one time
and the
uh they Yeah. They wouldn't come pick up
that many. So, I had to load up my
brother's motocross trailer, drive all
the hats to North Carolina, load up the
motocross trailer, and take it to USPS.
It was crazy. And and then, you know,
talking customer service, like it was
taking me like longer and longer and
longer each time just because I was like
running myself into the ground,
literally. And um then like people, you
know, were like, "Oh, I wanted to have
this for a birthday." And that's when I
was like, "I've got I've got to get
help. like I'm going to drive my
business into the ground if I don't get
help. At least someone to answer the
emails, you know, cuz there I would have
to put up like an away message that's
like or what do you call out of office
message that's like
hi one woman show. I'm packing orders,
but I swear I have it like please be
patient with me. And I there's one girl
that she didn't she didn't send me an
ugly email, but if somebody was just,
you know, a little spicy. I would pick
up the phone and call them from like
with given they so people out there have
my cell phone number. But this girl and
I got to talk. I mean, we were down to
talking about God and the the the things
that she had faced in her marriage. She
was out of Texas. And um anyway, I ended
up having heartto-he heart with a lot of
people and um making some cool friends
through it. So, I'm grateful for it.
Like I I don't think any business owner
will say they started their business and
it was easy, right? No. I mean,
well, and you just had such a crazy
demand, too.
Yes. Yes. Out the gate.
Yes. Out the gate. Like 10,000 units is
unheard of.
Yeah. It was scary if I'm being honest.
It was so scary. And you know, now I've
got help. Thank God. But I mean, I'm
still growing is still like hard. It's
just the demand continues to grow and
I'm so grateful for it. But as I grow,
like Marcus is growing at the same time
and so it's just like I don't know, we
feel like we're on a buck and bull and
just trying to keep up with it all. But,
you know, I don't mean that negative,
you know, I'm I'm grateful, but it's
just it's a lot.
It's growing pains and I mean I would
make anyone go crazy. My favorite hat is
obviously the granny hat. The granny.
Yes, I brought that for you.
Thank you. You know what's actually so
hard even for me? Like I put my alarm on
to buy hats and like and they go they
go. Yeah.
Yeah.
It's insane.
I'm working on that though because like
it's just it's so hard like it's hard to
guess like what what are people going to
love? Like it's just especially when you
introduce something new like I'm doing
all the time. That's something I love
about my mind and the way my brand is.
It's like you're when I look at you,
you're so curated like with your drops
and your your things and I'm just
whatever hits the brain is going out on
the internet, you know, and that's like
I don't know. I like that about my
brand, but it is it's makes it harder to
judge like, oh, what what's what's
everyone going to love more this this
feather or this feather or this thing or
this thing, you know?
Well, casting units in general, it's
like so difficult to do. Like you you're
killing it. It's like so incredible.
It's so exciting.
Thank you. And so are you, dude. I mean,
thank you.
I need another set because uh or no, I
need a new recipe book.
Okay, I have a mirror.
My dog.
We can do a little shopping in my
office.
It'll be perfect.
Yeah. And vice versa. But but I did
bring like 12 hats in the car. So,
okay. I like can't wait for that. Um
something I do want to talk about is
mental health. That's something that
like we talk about a lot. And I mean, we
were saying this before and I was like
transparently, I'm so down in the dumps.
Like
I've had probably the worst mental
health week I've had probably in like
the past couple of months. But I really
appreciate how both you and Marcus are
like so open about it. Especially like
with Mark I mean it's like the one thing
like as a male I just I don't want to
say it harder but like men just don't
really talk about it. So I love that he
does especially amongst men like men are
not talking about mental health enough.
Yeah. I feel like southern folks
especially really don't talk about
mental health. Like therapy was not a
thing growing up. you know, I hate that
you're down in the dumps, but like I was
saying earlier, it's like I've totally
totally totally been there. And I mean,
to the point that I gave the, you know,
the bullets to my gun away because I was
like, I don't I don't know what suicide
feels like, but I do know that it can,
you know, you can plan it out or it can
be a split-second thought, and I don't
want it to ever be a split-second
thought for me. So, I've been not saying
that's where you are, but I've been deep
down in the dumps. And I like I've been
so scared to talk about it because um
you know, some people find it shameful
or or you know, talk about it like
you're it's a victim mentality, but like
I was saying, I think when I was
answering your cards, like if I could
tell myself, you know, something from or
myself a year ago something, it would be
like it it does shine. the sun shines on
the other freaking side because I was
down that bad. Bed rotting, tub rotting,
wouldn't leave the house for over a
week. I was scared to go on vacation. I
remember I went on vacation and slept
the whole time because my my body I
finally felt like safe. So, and it's
been coming up on my uh for you page a
lot. A lot of people are being more
outspoken about their depression and how
it takes that exact form of like not
being able to get out of the bed,
which is just so crazy. And I, you know,
I saw um I don't want to say her name,
but an influencer talking about her
weight and how people are really really
like getting after her about her weight.
And the same was happening to me. In
fact, uh it was at the Grammys last
year. People were saying that I was
editing my videos that like my arm
actually really wasn't that skinny. And
I was like,
man, if only they knew that it really is
that skinny. And it I got smaller and
smaller and smaller and smaller. And
that's when I, you know, got blood work.
Don't scroll past them cortisol uh Tik
Toks because there is some there is a
little bit of truth to it. A lot of the
a lot of the crap and the supplements
out there are like not you know
not Yeah. not doing what they claim they
are. But yeah, been there. And Marcus
too, you know, his whole last record was
really like dark and about his dark time
with his mental health. And this next
one's about me. Thank God. So, you know,
it's going to be good.
You guys are safe.
Yeah. Thank God. Yeah. It's going to be
great. But yeah, no, we both we both
have experienced it. When I started my
hat company, I had ne I've never really
dealt with anxiety. I'd never had a
panic attack before. Like I've never
really heard anybody talk about what
that feels like. And so I was like
begging Marcus to call 911. Thankfully
he is a panic attack pro and was like,
"You're having a panic attack." And so
uh just lay on the cold bathroom floor
and beg God for mercy to get through it
and got through it. But I was like,
"Holy cow, I never want to experience
that again." But there were several
after that. Several. Um, but I also
didn't want to be on like I didn't grow
up on medication. So, it was like hard
for me to go to the doctor and say, "I I
need to be on anti-depressant." And so,
I just
I didn't this this time. I tried it in
my 20s and everything just felt gray. I
can't describe how that felt, but
it takes a while to find the right one
for you. Like if that's the path that
you go down, that's the other thing with
meds that kind of suck is that it just
takes a bit.
Well, I ain't got time. So, I just quit
and I was like, I just I'll just be
psycho. I guess it's way more fun this
way. I don't know. But it's it's it's
just seasonal for me. I feel like, you
know, comes in waves. And that's when I
found the Lord. You know, my neighbor
gave me a Jesus Calling um devotional.
And that, I mean, alone saved my life.
Here I am talking about the sun and
things like that. not need to be talking
about the Lord because that book I swear
it's so funny when I scroll through like
there will be like I can look and see
there's like a shape of a teardrop from
where like a one particular day like
would really resonate and make me cry
and I'll pass through it and it's just
so funny because it's last year and
that's when I was reading that I'm like
wow I'm in a totally different headsp
space now that's so crazy and I have
that book to thank that the sun the
birds I was showing a friend your
Instagram recently we were going
somewhere And I don't remember why it
was like you were going to be there or
something. So I like pulled it up and I
went to your Instagram story and it's a
Jesus Calling photo and I'm like okay
that's not really the best way to
describe her personality. Not at all.
Well it's like Jesus calling a joint uh
rosé with some jalapenos and like some
kind of a kooky outfit really is like
the king starter kit.
No, it's crazy with mental health how
you can feel so out of control. And like
I've dealt with mental health issues.
Like I I don't remember life where I
haven't dealt with it in some capacity.
Not that I there's definitely been times
where like I actively like I'm not
anxious. I'm not depressed. I'm like
okay, but it's I'm not so far away from
having felt it in my life, you know? So
like it's always been there.
It's run so deep in my family. like it.
I I've always like had the issues, but
I've been pretty good at dealing with it
cuz my dad had them. My dad saw it to me
really young and it's like taught me how
so much of like when it's like things
are put together or planned or whatever.
So much of that is just me
getting ahead of it so I'm not going to
end up getting anxious. Yeah. So I have
some sort of control and I'm not going
to like lose my actual mind.
But and I'm like when I am depressed I'm
so high functioning so it's not obvious
to other people besides the past week or
so when I'm like oh I actually like
cannot get out of bed. But it is crazy
cuz I just have to remember I'm like it
does pass. I will get better. I will
feel better. A lot of it to me for me is
hormonal cuz I have PMDD. But like
it's just so crazy. And then it sucks
when like you share so much of your life
online and I'm like I feel like between
this and grief in the past year, all I
do is like go on the internet and say
hate my life and like that's not what I
want to be and that's not who I want to
be. Like
obviously I've been in those spaces and
that's like fine for me to feel, but
like that's not where I want to land.
Especially when you're like grieving or
you're in just such deep dark depression
like you don't really want anyone to
look at you and I don't really want to
remember these moments or to like
that's not really what I like the thing
I want to like put forward.
I don't want to look back. Also like
grief specifically is very ugly. So like
there's things that I feel about people
that I wouldn't necessarily you know
like all the things. So, I hate that
aspect of like when I'm sharing so much
of my stuff online, which I feel like
people can feel that way regardless, you
know,
but I mean, think about how many people
like watched your grieving journey and
it helped them, you know, like I I wish
I was more confident in my like unstable
mental state that I could get online and
post more because like I said, like I
kind of disappeared and so like I I
don't know as you know, some people may
think it's cringe. I I find it like
really helpful and it really helps like
your audience get to know you and like
what you're going through. And I think
that all all goes back to my raisin was
we do not talk about do not talk about
your problems. Like don't share it,
bottle it up. And that's probably why
like all this anxiety is bulled up, you
know, as an adult. But I know I
appreciate creators like yourself, like
Ken Urick and you know, anyone else
that's sharing their like mental health
stages, even Bunny, like
yeah,
you know, she sharing her IVF journey
like
somebody. Yeah, somebody benefits from
seeing all that. So that's like,
you know, maybe this maybe this inspire
me to talk about my [ __ ] a little bit
more. I definitely lean towards a side
of like I love vulnerability and I want
like if I'm doing this like I want to
connect with people and I'm glad like I
post it because I hope that it helps
people like I that is the intention but
there's just times where it's like
you're just so down it's just like you
just
I don't mean like you feel ugly
physically necessarily. I think it's
just like inside it's like I don't like
how I feel right now.
Right. But authenticity wins. I mean
like but people I feel I feel like
people love authentic people like
yourself and I don't know you you help
so many people like even even when you
are like if you're doing your normal
content like we're sitting here right
now talking about I hate life but like
you're still staging and posting like
all these cool things that I want to be
doing. So it's like I hope I hope that
well I hope this will inspire others to
you know push through like keep posting.
We're all freaking going through it and
it's not easy. It's like not easy
online. It just everything is so fake if
I'm being honest.
I don't even think everything's so fake.
I mean, it is fake, don't get me wrong,
but I also think like people do have a
right to like only I think people just
only share their highlight reel, which
like is fair, you know, but it is like
refreshing. I remember when I lost my
brother. I remember googling people who
had like lost their brother and
survived. And like to me, I'm like if I
can help people
Yeah. cuz it is helpful to see someone
who's like 20 years on the line. It's
like okay like there is a life that can
be lived still
and I feel similarly obviously grief is
so different than like mental it's
different and similar to like mental
illness but they're all just problems
and also just like talking about it in
general like even
like even if I'm around someone I'm just
having a bad couple days I don't need to
talk about it necessarily but like just
so it's out there so you're not like
sitting there overthinking too because
it's like after I'm like well was did I
say this? Was I entertaining? Did I do
that? You know what I mean? It's like it
doesn't it doesn't need to be that way,
you know?
Oh, I I know what you mean. I used to
have a um like a private little
Instagram during COVID where I like
would keep it as a journal so that I was
like writing and I had like maybe four
or five friends up there that if if I
wasn't because I would used to go days
without answering people. I still kind
of do sometimes but that's for other
reasons. But um yeah, I would just like
go journal on a spare Instagram so that
everyone could see like I'm good. I
don't need to talk about any of this.
Don't bring it up. But just to spill it.
And that was when I was like deep deep
deep deep in therapy, which still am. I
like I think I always will be. Therapy
is like amazing. But yeah, just sharing
that privately and publicly definitely,
you know, got to help somebody, you
know,
actually. I'm like hopefully myself at
this point. Like
yeah, you know,
okay. So crazy. Yeah, I went to go see
Trisha Pis uh literally
at the Ryman and she was talking about
or you know just her the reel that
starts before the show starts. It just
shows all of her phases like her crying
in the kitchen floor phase and like just
all the eras of Trisha which was her the
name of her tour. But anyway, it was
really inspiring to listen to her talk
about like and thank her fan base for
like sticking with her through all of
that [ __ ] because I mean she did some
crazy stuff. She's but that's why we
love her. You know that's why we love
her.
I had that exact takeaway when I left. I
like talked about it on the podcast and
I'm like it's crazy but like I really
like not that Trisha is actually really
genius and smart and like people don't
give her credit. I don't mean it in that
way but I'm like it is crazy that I'm
like coming here telling you that like
how much I learned from Trisha Pis
crying on her kitchen floor. But
seriously like and she has pushed
through. No one's more consistent. No
one is
consist like she has she is the epitome
of consistency and just pushing through.
And it's been really cool because like
she's been online for so long that I
feel like I've like just watched her
grow up and I don't it's so cool like
and she's so cool dude. She she'll be on
she was on stage you know she's so she's
like super pregnant right now and her uh
Elvis she was doing an Elvis routine and
the belt kept coming undone and me I
would have been like
what the [ __ ] you know like freaking out
about it. She's like oh yeah my belt's
coming off. Oh well. And I'm like, "Oh,
that is what I that I want to be that
unbothered." But she talked about her
journey to get to that point and it
won't pretty. So, I don't know. We all
go through it. Just different different
fonts, I reckon.
I just love her so much.
Yeah, dude. She's the [ __ ]
She's amazing. Okay, we can end off by
like making our pact of like things that
we're going to do,
okay,
in the next week.
Okay.
To better our mental health.
I will Well, we need to do things
together, too. But I will get outside
between 8 and 10 a.m.
Yes. No sunglasses. No sunglasses. Feet
in the ground. It's called grounding. I
do know about that.
Touch the grass.
Touch the grass. Okay, that's good. I'll
force myself to leave the house. We need
to do something fun.
Yeah.
Can we go antiquing?
I would love to go and there's a place
called Gas Lamp.
Yeah, that's where Yes.
And I only went to one side the other
day cuz I spent spent too long in there.
I couldn't make it to the other. So, I'm
ready.
Okay, perfect. We'll go antiquing. And I
need to make like a bucket list in
general for Nashville. You need to
develop a bucket list. Is that what you
said?
Yeah. I need to like make a bucket list
of things so that I like make myself go
do things.
Yeah. So, you check all your boxes. You
get the full Nashville experience. Okay.
So, this next week, aside from us going
antiquing, we I need to make sure
I'm checking all the boxes. See, I have
my my best friends coming into town, so
I'm so excited. So, I'm going to make
sure I deep clean my house because that
is like really really fills my cup when
my house is super clean. Make sure I do
that. I need to get out of the house and
go to a nice dinner and um get like
Okay, I'm going to go get my hair done,
nails done, Botox, and um eyebrows. It's
I'm overdue for all of it. So, all that
Nothing will make you feel better than
that.
Exactly. And then I'll play my Sabrina
Carpenter and drink my French 75 and
take over the world.
Eat a chicken little chicken tender.
Yes.
There you go. Chicken tender never hurt
nobody.
No, it didn't.
No. Um those are my things. That's what
And that's I just I just gave myself a
whole list for this next week. That's a
lot to get done.
It's okay.
But I'm going to do it. I'm going to do
it cuz I'm like I'm at the point where
I'm either going to chop my hair off or
I need extensions. Like something's got
to give.
You got to like change it up.
Yeah. Not Sophia.
Richie.
No, not a bob.
You don't want a bob?
No, I can't do a bob. But
you are like the least bob person I
think I've ever met in my life. I can't
even like
Oh, I will send you a picture. I cannot
face and the top was black and the
bottom was um platinum. I was I was emo
for a while.
Who I know.
Yeah.
Who would have ever seen this girl in
black?
Absolutely not.
Never. But in I was an emo girl and I
did have a bob. So I need to send it to
you.
Trisha Pis eras.
Totally. Dude, when she was up there
singing um like when she had her emo era
like you know she was in the middle
hospital and she talked about how her
emo era like helped her get through all
of that.
Same. I'm I'm like I'm in the kitchen
making the same music video. I just
don't post mine.
No, she's like literally the best. Okay.
Well, we've actually been talking for
over an hour already.
Um, so unfortunately, but like you're
welcome to come back literally anytime.
Wow. I must
This is so fab. I feel like this is a
good like another side of you versus
like other things.
Yeah. Like I really appreciate a space
where I can come and not have to be
crazy.
Yeah. It was just chill.
Yeah. So chill, dude.
So chill. So funny. So stylish. So cool.
So, perfect.
Amazing. So, where can they find you and
shop the hats?
Okay. Yes. Okay. Website for hats,
littlebirdtrucking.com.
Follow me on uh Tik Tok, kids supreme,
and Instagram, real Brley King.
Brley King was taken.
And there you go. Okay. Love you.
And eventually YouTube. You got to help
me on the YouTube. I don't know how.
We need to schedule a date for the
dinner party because that's what we need
to do.
I like need to Yes. Yes. Okay. And we're
going to have a dinner party. We're
going to that will add that to our list
of things to do this week.
And that'll be perfect.
Schedule a dinner party. And by the time
this comes out, so will the real of our
dinner.
Yes, it will.
Period.
Amazing. Okay. Well, love you so much.
Love you.
Bye.
Bye. Bye.
