Hey everybody, it's day four of your 30-day learn to roller skate program.
So we're going to start off with some simple warm-ups. The first one is this half bubble.
Since we've been practicing full bubbles with both feet,
now we're going to turn it up and challenge yourself a little bit.
So you're trying to keep the one foot going straight and the other foot makes a c-shape
going front to back. So the one foot makes a bubble and the other one stays straight.
Here's the overhead view so you can see it a little bit better.
And we are going to do that 20 times on each side.
Make sure to keep your knees bent and really push into it and make a nice wide c-shape.
Our next move is alternate foot toe heel lifts in parallel.
So your feet are going to stay side by side for this.
And with one foot you're going to lift up your toe and the other foot you're going to lift up
your heel. And then you're going to alternate sides. The coordination for this is a little
bit challenging at first so take it slow. And then you can build up speed.
I like to use my arms to help me get lift on this so there's like a point of weightlessness
to make this easier. This is important to practice because it's the beginnings of a
heel toe spin. Let's go ahead and practice this 30 times total or until you feel super
comfortable with it. The next move is a move I like to call almost manuals. The way that this
works is you're rolling into it with your front toe up and then you're going to lift your back
heel off up and down a bunch of times as you test your balance and try to hold it for as long
as you can. We are also going to do this the opposite way where you're rolling into it with
your back heel off and then trying to lift up your front toe but that's a little bit harder so
do the front toe up first. Here's a close-up view. You can see I'm rolling with my front toe up and
just lifting my back toe up and down. Let's go ahead and practice this 10 times on each side
and then five times the harder way on each side. So we are on to our five fun combos for beginners
today. So the first one is rolling transition into a backwards bubble into transition forward.
So you're going to do a little push off, open the door, close the door, big bubble backwards,
and then open the door, close the door again facing the same way. Here's the overhead view.
First I'm going to push off transition, big bubble, and transition back. Push off,
transition, big bubble, and then transition back. Let's do this combo 10 times on each side.
Our next combo is one foot skate, one foot skate, and then tiny hop. This is important so you can
start finding your balance on each foot and then also being able to hop. We're going to do this by
keeping one foot flat on the ground and then the other foot go ahead and just lift your toe off.
You can leave the heel on the ground at first, then switch feet, and then do a tiny hop using
your arms to help lift you off. Once you get comfortable with that you can start lifting
the foot completely off the ground and then increasing the size of the hop. Here's an up
close view. Let's do this 10 times or until you have it down perfectly. Our next combo is super
important for beginners to learn because these are the foundations of stopping. So we're going
start by making two circles each direction using our feet and keeping a wide spread eagle stance.
Then we're going to hop up onto our toe stops, pivot, hop up, and down four times. Here it is
from an overhead view. So we're starting off with the two circles. I like to do this by coming out
with one foot and then following with the other, pushing off, and then hitting that mohawk turn
stance. Once you've done two turns in each direction then you're on to the pivot hops.
So hop up onto the toe stops, come down to flat feet, pivot on your front two wheels, and then hop
back up onto the toe stops four times. Here it is from the side view. Two spins one way, two spins the
other way, and then four double toe stops with a pivot in between. Let's do this combo 10 times.
Our next combo is one of my favorites because not only does it help you learn the foundations
of roller skating, it also looks super cool and totally doesn't look like a beginner skill at all.
So we're going to start this move by rolling into an open the door, close the door transition,
then walking backwards for four steps into a double toe stop. Here's a closer look. First
we're going to transition into walking into the toe stop. Remember to keep your knees bent during
this move and also shift your weight slightly forward on the double toe stop. Our last essential
combo for beginners is super fun and looks super cool. I love it. So it's a moonwalk into a toe stop
pivot. So you're going to start by putting one foot flat with all four wheels on the ground and the
other foot with just the toe stop on the ground. Then you're going to put pressure on the toe stop
to push the foot with all four wheels backwards. Once it's moved about three or four inches
backwards, you're going to switch and pop the other toe stop down while putting the other foot
flat. Then you're going to slide that foot and switch again. Start off super slow and then it
will click and you will get it and you'll be able to do it a lot faster as you practice. Once you do
four of those in a row, you're back to your starting position with the one toe stop down
and the other foot flat on the ground and you're going to initiate the half turn with your hips.
Keep the toe stop pressed into the ground and then pivot the hips around in a half circle to create
the momentum for the half turn pivot. And those were your five essential combos for beginner
roller skaters. Great job today. If you were wondering what the designs on my skates were,
they are art made by me and I have them on my website for sale. This one's a sunflower and the
other one is strawberry vines. Also if you haven't gotten yours yet, make sure to get your checklist
for your 30 days of learn to skate. It's on my Instagram, lindseyskates. And also we need to make
sure we're staying hydrated because as roller skaters we are sweating and losing a lot of
electrolytes. So make sure that you're replacing those with an electrolyte replacement. I'll link
my favorite ones below and make sure to subscribe for day five.
