We're going to start off with a nice big circle.
So just roughly, or you can get a cup or something round to draw around.
Just draw a very rough circle and remember not to press too hard because we're going
to be rubbing this out.
I'm just pressing a little bit harder just so that you can see it on camera.
Remember it doesn't have to be perfect, that's a really lopsided circle, but we know what
it is.
Okay, so next bit, we're going to do the chicken's tail.
So if I bring a line coming down like that and then another line coming down like that.
Okay, now we're going to do the neck and the head.
So we're going to draw a curved line just coming round.
Remember you can rub this out at any point, this is just a rough guide.
So we're going to come underneath the head, come out and round.
Then you're going to join it up to the circle like so.
Okay, so it's looking a bit messy now, but don't worry, we're going to tidy it all up later.
Next, we're going to be doing the front leg.
So here at the bottom of the circle, just draw a shape just coming out like that and
one coming out like so.
And then we're just going to do some stick legs, so a little stick leg coming out here
and the foot.
Okay, and we're going to do the same for the back leg.
So I'm just going to draw a line coming all the way down, one coming out, and then I'm
going to draw another little part for the leg.
Okay, so now we're going to be drawing the beak, so just a rough beak like this.
We'll just put in where the eye is going to be, and then we'll add the crest here.
And it already looks like a chicken, so that's phase one.
So the next step in our drawing, we're always going to take a step back and evaluate what
we've done already.
So I'm going to check that everything's in the right proportion.
So using my pencil again, I'm just going to perfect the lines a little bit and just make
it look a little bit more realistic.
So I'm just coming around here, coming around to the leg part, and then coming up.
Just doing the same for the front leg too, just adding kind of a bit more texture and
tone.
So we're actually going to draw the foot and the claw here.
There we go.
Make it a bit thicker, and then the claw out the front.
Okay.
Remember, if you need to pause this video at any moment, please do, catch up, and then
press play.
So we're just doing the back foot now.
I'm actually going to bring the back foot down a little bit more.
So using my eraser, I'm just going to lengthen it so that it's the same level as the front
one.
There we go.
With the claw there, and the back one.
Okay.
So we're just going to make this bit a little bit more realistic, just like that, and do
the underside of the wing, just like so.
Okay.
So we'll come up, and I wonder if you know what you call this part.
It's actually called a wattle, apparently.
So I just found that out.
So there's the wattle.
We shall do the beak.
There we go.
And then the eye.
Make that slightly bigger.
Here we go.
And then the markings extend around the eye, comes up around here, and down again.
And then this part's actually called the comb.
So let's perfect this a little bit.
It actually comes a little bit lower, so we shall do that bit again.
So it comes round, and it's got some peaks on it, like this, a bit like a punk hairstyle.
Comes round, all the way round, joins the head here.
Okay.
So, starting to look a little bit more like a chicken.
And then we can perfect the line coming around here.
There we go.
And onto the tail.
So we're going to put some feathers in the tail.
Here we go.
And some of the ones here.
There we go.
Looking more like a chicken now, isn't it?
Excellent.
So now I'm going to go over it in pen.
So I've erased all the pencil lines, so we just have the pen marks now.
Using a slightly thinner pen, or you can use the same pen, we're going to draw the scaly
parts on the chicken's legs.
So, just drawing in one direction, lots of little curved lines, all the way down.
You can do the same on the front leg too, on the toes, and then some places I'm just
going to draw some cross-hatching.
So that means just drawing lines in a different direction to make them look really scaly.
Excellent.
So now I'm going to start colouring it in.
I'm going to start off using this straw yellow colour, so I'll do the beak, and also, because
the chicken's white, I'm just going to just give it a little bit of colour underneath,
just using a little bit of yellow.
I'm going to be using a flesh pink as well, just very lightly.
So here's our finished chicken.
Don't forget to add some shadow underneath the chicken so it doesn't look like it's flying
in the air.
And I hope you've enjoyed it, and if you have any requests whatsoever of things that you'd
like to learn to draw, please let me know down in the comments section.

Bye bye!
