SpaceX's New Solution to Launch Dream Chaser to Replace ULA Vulcan…
It’s been over 20 years since Dream Chaser was first introduced. Sadly, this spaceplane still hasn’t completed a full orbital test flight.
While there are several reasons,to be fair, some are out of their control. The biggest roadblock has always been its rocket, the Vulcan Centaur by ULA, plagued by delay after delay.
Meanwhile, SpaceX has been stealing the spotlight, thanks to its reliable and far more powerful Falcon Heavy.
Many believe it could be Sierra’s best solution at speeding up the Dream Chaser timeline.
So, can Falcon Heavy finally break Dream Chaser out of the factory and send it into space?
Let’s find out in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

In January 2016, NASA awarded a multi-billion-dollar CRS-2 contract to Sierra Nevada Corporation, now Sierra Space, to use Dream Chaser for at least six cargo missions to the ISS, alongside SpaceX’s Cargo Dragon and Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus.
It was a major breakthrough, but the contract was cargo-only. Without a crewed variant, Sierra Space still lagged behind SpaceX and Boeing in the race to carry astronauts.
To make matters harder, Sierra had also lost out in the earlier CRS-1 round in 2014, leaving them with tighter budgets and a vehicle still far from flight-ready.

But they kept pushing, determined to prove that Dream Chaser wasn’t just a backup, but a spacecraft with real potential.
Since then, they’ve focused on building a cargo variant called Tenacity, designed not just to compete, but to surpass rivals like Dragon and Starliner.
With its lifting-body, airplane-like design, Dream Chaser can land on any conventional runway around the world. That means faster cargo access compared to SpaceX’s Dragon, which splashes down at sea, or Boeing’s Starliner, which often lands in remote areas.
In short, Dream Chaser offers a clear edge in turnaround time.
