NASA Astronauts revealed what Got Paid for Stranded on Boeing Starliner...Never Again!
No fresh air, no gravity, no way to go home.
You're separated from your family, your friends… AND your BODY? It's literally losing bone mass in zero gravity.
That was the reality for NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, stranded aboard the International Space Station far longer than planned.
But...HERE’s the kicker.
Guess how much they got paid for that extra time in space?
Let’s just say, it’s about the same as tipping a hotel bellhop or a cruise ship porter.
Yeah. Really.
Even President Donald Trump was stunned.
“If I had to do it, I would pay for it out of my own pocket” he said.
So, what’s NASA’s explanation?
Why are our space heroes being treated like government employees on a business trip?
Find out everything in today's Techmap episode!
NASA Astronauts revealed what Got Paid for Stranded on Boeing Starliner...Never Again!
On March 18, after spending nine months stranded in space, Sunni Williams and Butch Wilmore finally returned home amid the warm welcome of the space community and their family. Along with two other Crew Nine members, they splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida at 5:57 PM Eastern Time. The journey back to Earth took 17 hours from the time the SpaceX spacecraft ""Freedom"" undocked from the International Space Station.
This was the moment when Miss Williams exited the capsule, followed shortly by Mr. Wilmore. It's the first breath of fresh air for the pair since they departed for the ISS last year. So, just how did they end up getting stuck in space?

During a horrifying 24-hour journey to the ISS on board the Boeing Star liner last June, Wilmore and Williams came close to death due to technical failures of the spacecraft. Five of the spacecraft's 28 thrusters malfunctioned. A propellant valve also failed, and multiple helium leaks were reported. As a result, the trip, originally planned for just one week, stretched to nine months. NASA deemed the vehicle unsafe for crew, and the capsule returned to Earth in September last year, without the two astronauts.
At present, there's still some uncertainty around the plans for the next Star liner test flight. However, there's a “strong chance” it will be an uncrewed mission, as teams are still working to address ongoing issues with the spacecraft. NASA is aiming to launch the flight early next year. This mission is intended to validate fixes being tested for helium leaks and thermal problems tied to the thrusters and their “doghouse” enclosures.
