It took us a whole three weeks, three days, seven hours, and 29 minutes before we did our most
important and first mod to the Ram RHO. Now the RHO is incredible in stock form,
but when you can mod this and add another 104 horsepower to the wheels for less than $700,
we said we're in.
So why was our very first mod on this a tune? Because it's minimally invasive, we're not
cutting and parking the truck, and it's just $6.73 a horsepower. It's the best deal money can buy.
I love it. The power is one thing, but it helps when towing, it helps off-road. Whether you're
in the dunes or the mud, what have you, we can use, we can always use more power, right? Towing,
off-roading, what have you. But what happens if you pull up next to a Corvette,
a Mustang, a TRX, maybe a Tesla? Now we may not beat all those vehicles,
but we have a much better shot with an extra 104 horsepower in the wheels, right?
So installation was pretty simple, you guys. We ran a little bit of wiring in through the firewall
up to the engine compartment. Our computer, our tuner is actually mounted right here,
hard-mounted right here. But what's great is everything is right here on my phone. I can bring
up the app. Let me bring that up real fast. Just type in JB4, and here it is. I've got everything
right here on my phone, gauges, you name it, RPM, ignition, air-fuel ratio, what gear it's in.
And what's really nice is it's a really smart tuner. It's smarter than me. So if it knows the
truck is going to lose traction first through second gear because of the power it's putting
down, it might withhold a little bit of boost until it knows the traction is available. Maybe
third gear, it's going to give us everything it's got, fourth gear, fifth gear, and so on. So it's
a very, very smart system. The functionality is great, and I can control the tunes on my phone.
So I could have seven, eight tunes here and have different tunes for different purposes,
which can all be customized. Let's say we're going to go crazy and add water and methanol
injection and up the horsepower even more. We can have a tune in here just for that.
So I have to say I have no history with the Hurricane Inline-6 Twin Turbo before the RHO.
But what I knew was Mopar had already been using dragsters with this power plant, putting out over
a thousand horsepower for the past handful of months. And I've seen them in person and they're
pulling some pretty crazy numbers in the quarter mile time. Now this is out of a 3.0 Inline-6
that's half the size, less than half the size of the 6.2 Hellcat that was in the TRX. Now I owned
a TRX, so I have a lot of experience with that platform. Absolutely loved it. But I was really
curious if we put a tune on this, what kind of power can we put down and would it be a better
daily driver than the TRX? Can I get better mileage? Can I get similar power, if not dead-on as much?
So I can say from driving this today, it squats like the TRX did. It pulls up the front left
like kind of crooked like this, like mean as hell. And I can say it feels kind of like a TRX,
sounds a lot different of course, and but you know what's really nice is it's a lot less money.
But this $700 JB4 tuner from Berger makes all the difference in the world. So I love the Hurricane,
but as many of you would probably agree with me on this, buying a brand new truck with a brand
new power plant could be a little questionable, especially when you're talking about adding
you know more power to it. Great thing about Berger Tuning is they've been around a long time,
they've been in the game modding all kinds of vehicles, tuning BMWs, Mercedes, you name it.
Now this tuner is not just available for the RHO, they have it available for so many more vehicles.
Just go to Berger Tuning, B-U-R-G-E-R, tuning.com and see if they have a tuner available for your
vehicle. Now this tuner in the RHO adds another 104 horsepower to the wheels. That is absolutely
huge. That's major, major power. I believe that would be roughly 140 to 150 horsepower to the
crank. But here's what's really cool. We're going to dyno this next week on an all-wheel drive dyno
here in Washington, and we're going to show you guys what this is putting down to the wheels.
Put the power to the pavement and just see what this tuner does.
So what I love about the SRT products from Stellantis, from Dodge, Ram, is that they really
make performance a priority and cater to the automotive enthusiasts who are really into
performance. And so we have a screen right here. The app is called Performance Pages,
and this is available on the TRX, for example, the RHO, a couple other vehicles, I believe the
Trackhawk, probably anything that has a Hellcat engine probably has Performance Pages in it,
as well as the SRT Cherokee from previous years. But we've got timers on here, which will show us
like 0 to 60, quarter mile time, things like that, which is really cool. And then gauges,
which right now is going to be useful because we've got boost pressure and engine power.
So if we see engine power go up to 600 plus, obviously that did not come from the factory
that way. We know our tuner is working. That's pretty cool stuff. Or if the boost goes sky high
above what it would from the factory, then that's an indicator that, yeah, we've got a tune on this
beast. So pretty cool stuff. Will also show us horsepower right here, real time. So while I'm
driving right now, it's putting out maybe a whole whopping, you know, 75 horsepower, 100 horsepower,
something like that, because it doesn't need to utilize much when I'm doing, you know, 20 miles
an hour. But horsepower, torque, RPM, it's all right here. So we're going to do a couple of
hard launches here in just a minute, and we'll see everything communicated right here to the screen,
as well as the instrument cluster. It's going to show us our 0 to 60 time, 0 to 100 time. Of course,
we would never do this on a street. Everything is closed course, but pretty cool stuff.
All right, so we're headed to do our launch,
and this should be a lot more fun than it was one day ago. So let's check it out.
Wow, you guys, this thing is such a beast. I mean, 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds from the factory,
no slouch, especially for a huge truck running 35s. But thanks to Joe Kimball at Kimball's
Hands-On Detailing and Accessories here in Gig Harbor and Berger Tuning, we've got our tune,
and we just ran 0 to 60, 4.2 seconds. I don't even know how to launch this thing correctly,
and we busted that out. Now, this thing will run the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds stock. Right now,
we're in the 12s, just from the tune, not to mention what's going to happen when we add our
exhaust coming up soon. Do you guys want to see Corsa on this, AFE, Stainless Works? What do you
want to see? Drop a line in the comments, let us know. The intake's already taken care of,
that's done from the factory. I'm not sure any improvements can happen there. But the tune,
you guys, best money we could ever spend. That's why we did it first. Again, thank you, Joe Kimball,
your installation, perfect. Berger Tuning, this thing is flawless. Thank you guys so much.
Stay tuned, and let us know what you want to see next.
