Betasso Overlook Cabin, designed by Renée del Gaudio Architecture, redefines traditional mountain cabins with a contemporary approach that harmonizes with the Rocky Mountain landscape. The 3,670-square-foot residence, completed in 2024 in Boulder, United States, consists of three interconnected volumes designated for working, living, and sleeping, all positioned to follow the site’s natural topography and maximize views of Betasso Nature Preserve. The exterior, clad in dark metal panels, integrates seamlessly with the rugged environment, while floor-to-ceiling glass walls invite natural light and panoramic vistas. Inside, the home features a warm material palette, including double fir rafters, hemlock ceilings, and concrete floors. Prioritizing sustainability, the cabin operates entirely on geothermal and electric energy, utilizing a ground-source heat pump, airtight insulation, and a 9kW solar array to achieve net-zero energy consumption. This innovative design results in a residence that merges architectural excellence with environmental responsibility, offering a serene and energy-efficient retreat in the mountains.
