Saudi Arabia is reportedly looking to strengthen ties with Russia in a bold new move centred on rare earth metals. In a recent interview with Russia’s TASS, Saudi Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar Al-Khorayef revealed that the Kingdom is “absolutely” open to joint ventures with Russia in mining and metal processing. He highlighted the importance of developing technology to process rare earths — vital components in everything from smartphones to electric vehicles — and emphasised Saudi Arabia’s increasing mineral wealth, now estimated at $1.5 trillion.
