The One Who Listens to the Sea – Xiaoliuqiu
The sea is not just a sound —
It’s a long, unfolding poem written in waves.
In Xiaoliuqiu, every wave rewrites the shore,
sometimes whispering, sometimes roaring,
like breath pressed into time.
Seen from the sky, the island rests like a silent coral
in the palm of the ocean.
A green sea turtle occasionally glides beneath the waves —
a slow letter the sea sends to the land.
Sometimes, the sea is as still as a mirror,
gently gathering clouds and light into its arms.
When the waves rise,
they crash against the rocks,
splashing up like waterfalls of mist,
like emotion finally given shape,
like nature’s pen brushing the edge of time.
At sunset, the light glides across the water,
like a golden page being slowly turned.
The whole scene becomes a symphony without a score —
grand, and silent.
Each wave a bold note in the evening’s music,
each echo a whispered line from the heart of twilight.
This is not noise.
It is heartbeat, tide, and the unspoken grammar of the sea.
People don’t just come here to see the ocean.
They come to listen —
to the sound of the waves,
and to the parts of themselves they’ve almost forgotten.
