Family Game Night That Works | No More Fighting Over What to Play (See how we do it!)

[Music] Hey everybody, welcome to the Wallock Way. I'm Jessica and in today's video you are actually going to be joining us for a family game night. In an ideal world, we would be having a family game night about once a week, but in the realistic world, it happens about every other week in our house. Uh the way we do family game night has been the same for as long as I can remember. Um, and it started out as a like way to combat the I don't want to play your game or I want to play a different game. And that just wasn't happening because family game night should be fun and enjoyable and we should want to come together. It shouldn't be a like squabble. So, we originally were like, "This isn't going to work." And so, to combat that, we came up with the plan that each of us would always always pick a game for family game night. So, every time we sit down at the table and we have a family game night, each of us brings a game. Kevin will pick his game, I'll pick my game, Emily will pick her game, and that combats the, "Hey, I don't want to play your game." Because no matter what, you have a game to look forward to. So, there's something that you're going to want to play on the table before game night's over. To combat who gets to play their game first, we roll a dice and we let the dice decide. Whoever rolls the highest gets to play their game first. Whoever rolls the second highest, that's the game we play second. and whoever rolls the lowest plays their game third. That's just kind of how we do it. And if it's your game, you go first when we play your game. Like it just it's how we've done it for forever. It takes all of the squabbbling out of it. And because that's like the rule and the way we've done it, it makes it enjoyable because I'm like, "Hey, let's have a family game night. Everybody get grabs a game. Everybody sits down at the table. We roll a dice." And you just know like I rolled highest. I'm going to get to play my game first and I get to be the first player of my game and then when it's your game, you're the first player. Uh we also have a family game night trophy. Whoever wins the most, so two out of three typically during our game night like owns the trophy until our next family game night. Uh and if there's a tiebreaker, like if we've each only won one game, we will normally play a tiebreaker of some kind. We do not play anybody's game for the tiebreaker. like we'll randomly pick another game like a quick play game, something that we'll play in under 15 minutes and that's our tiebreaker game. But we never play anybody's game a second time because then that's just not fair and we're all about keeping things fair here because that's what makes family game nights more enjoyable for us. Uh typically I let everybody pick anything they want from the game shelves. Um unless we're having a themed night, which I will occasionally do that. I will say like, "Hey, tonight we're going to do a night. We're going to be playing classic games." And so I will kind of pull all the classic games and put them on the table ahead of time to be like, "Hey, pick one of these." Um, or, "Hey, we're going to have a Harry Potter theme night because it's Harry Potter's birthday or it's May the 4th, so I'll pull all our Star Wars games." And then we still do the same rules just within the games that we have that fall into that theme. Everybody just sit there and hold your horses. Yeah. Hey. [Music] your game, Emily. That means you get to go first. I'm going to scream at the spooky spiders with two cards. Um, same number is not a scream. Oh, that's a stomp. Then I'm going to stomp at them. I have a better chance. Actually, two. I was going to go for the wasp, but that's when I thought I had a strike. So [Music] [Applause] five and you got it more spooky. [Music] All right. 22 points, 26 33. Two games in a row. Yep. Dang. All right. Time to play Yatsi. See? Maybe. Maybe have a chance. Maybe he's going to win at Yatsi and he'll like take the whole night. Like be the That would be the first time anybody's ever done that, wouldn't it? Ever. All right, let's see if you can do it. Got to be late, though. I might win. [Music] [Applause] No. Uh oh, you are not. What? Not going to what? I'll take that. So that's 2704. We got nice stuff. [Applause] Yep, there it is. Y'all see it?
