It was September of 2014 when metal detecting enthusiast Derek McLennan journeyed to a field owned by The Church of Scotland with his two friends. A year prior, he had found a trove of medieval coins near Twynholm, and he was hoping to stumble across something just as significant that day.

After talking himself into going on the trip after feeling unwell that morning, McLennan was shocked when his detector started beeping. Little did he know, he was about to unearth something that’d been hidden for over 1,000 years.
