Hey, it's Appaloosa.
All right, I was asked to do a little tutorial on different types of backwards skating.
So I'm just going to give one variation here.
And just remember that backwards skating is kind of a blend of all different types of
backwards skating, from bubbles or scissors, to backwards crossovers, to backwards slalom,
to backwards scooter pushes.
And if you're doing recreational skating, like at a skating rink, then you'll use crossovers
likely on the corners, unless you're just working on doing kind of a slalom to press
your edges around the corners.
And on the straightaway, you're kind of mixing up pushes, crosses, slalom, because you're
moving and you're grooving.
So you use what you need.
So we're going to work on backwards scooter pushes, because that gives a couple of functions.
One, it's giving you a push, so you can push, but also it gives you a push and an edge.
So if you need to move for something, then you can do one on the other side.
So this is a really good drill to practice.
So you're going to utilize a circle, press your outside edge, weight is towards the front
end of your skate.
So I'm kind of pressing over the back of my baby toe wheel on my right foot.
And you can do a half scissor or a half bubble with the left foot.
So all my weight is pretty much on my right foot.
I'm just very lightly letting my left foot roll out and pulling the wheels in.
What's going to create the momentum is the push down into the ground with the toe wheels
and the push goes forward, like you're trying to kick someone in the shin.
Don't do that.
But like you're trying to push down and away with those toe wheels.
So first you let the foot kind of roll out away from you and then you follow through
with the push.
So that is a really good drill to do and you can try that on the other side.
So if you need some extra backwards tutorials, I do have backwards bubbles and I have backwards
crossovers.
And then you practice all these backwards and you kind of make it your own.
Always look behind you.
Make sure you're not going to crash into anyone.
And that's it.
So I hope that was a really kind of helpful drill for something for you to practice.
