After the Indus Valley Civilization, as per the evidence found, the most important art subjects are found of the Maurya- Sunga period. Specially during the Shunga period, very rich narrative relief- sculpture and subjects are found in Bharhut in their richly decorated Stone railings. According to historians only 40% of the original railings are found remaining, most of which have been reconstructed within the Barhut gallery of Indian Museum in Kolkatta, with a few pieces at Allahabad, Delhi and elsewhere. The rest is irretrievably lost, much of it have been used as building material. Village houses in the region have been found to have built entirely from stupa bricks. This clipping is a very short excerpt from the railings preserved at The Indian Museum, Kolkata.
