The Fox and the Grapes, A Funny Tale
Once upon a time, in a sunny meadow not far from here,
there lived a very clever, but very hungry, fox.
His name was Freddy the Fox,
and he was always on the lookout for something tasty.
One hot afternoon,
Freddy was trotting along when he spotted a bunch of big, juicy grapes hanging from a vine.
Oh, H-L-L-A!
Freddy said, licking his lips.
Those grapes look delicious.
Sweet, round, and just right for a hungry fox like me.
He jumped.
And missed.
He jumped again.
And missed again.
Then he backed up, took a running start, and leapt like a superhero,
and landed right on his tail.
Boing!
The grapes dangled there, high up, swinging in the breeze.
Freddy huffed.
Freddy puffed.
He even tried stacking some rocks to climb up.
He stacked one, then two,
then wobbled,
and crashed.
Down he went with a big Y-I-P.
Finally, Freddy stood up,
brushed the dust off his fur,
and looked at the grapes with a sniff.
Hmph, he said proudly, sticking up his nose.
Those grapes are probably sour anyway.
Who wants stinky, sour grapes?
Not me.
No, thank you.
Then he marched off, tummy rumbling, trying to look cool.
But behind him, the grapes just giggled quietly in the wind.
Moral of the story.
Sometimes, when we can't get what we want, we pretend we didn't want it anyway.
But it's okay to try, and to laugh when things get a little grape-wide.
