In other news, police are looking for
three suspects that robbed an armored
car this afternoon at a shopping center.
This was a scene at Frankfurt in
Ashurner Street in Holmesburg as
officers responded to the scene here.
Authorities say the robbers got away
with thousands of dollars and the
armored car driver's gun. Action News
reporter John Paul live at the Holsburg
Shopping Center with more on the
manhunt. John?
Yeah, Rick. They are still searching for
those suspects tonight. Police here back
on the scene in front of the Dollar
General. In fact, that armored truck was
parked right where that police vehicle
is right now. We just got some new
information, too, Rick. In the last 10
minutes, police told us those three
robbers tried to get into the Brinks
truck, but they couldn't because of the
security system.
I just came up here to go shopping and
I'm like, well, what is going on? A
shocking robbery in broad daylight. Take
a look at this photo was taken this
afternoon outside of a Dollar General on
Frankfurt Avenue in Holmesburg. You see
three masked men wearing gloves standing
behind an armored truck. One of them
holding a rifle. I looked up. I seen
some guys mulling around over here and
then they they spread out in a line and
I thought that's weird. We talked to the
man who took the picture. We're not
showing his face to protect his
identity. He says it took him a minute
before he realized he was watching an
armed robbery in the middle of the day.
One of the mouths did have a long gun.
Officials tell us three masked men
managed to steal around $3,000 from the
driver. You can see he has an empty
holster. Police say the men also stole
his gun before driving away in this
silver Honda Accord. They got in the car
and drove out peace very calm. So that's
why I think they were kind of pros. You
know, they didn't speed away. This is at
least the third armored truck robbery in
the last two weeks in our area. Sources
tell Action News on June 21st, suspects
stole $1.5 million in Port Richmond. On
the 26th, an armored truck was robbed
outside of the Aldi on the 5200 block of
Whitaker Avenue in Somerdale. Earlier in
June, robbers got away with around
$300,000 in Queens, New York. And in
May, an undetermined amount was taken in
Newcastle, Delaware. There's no word if
all these are connected, but people in
this area are wondering. If you're
hitting them like that, you know what
their schedule is. you know what time
they're going to arrive, everything.
Yeah, police are looking into the
possibility that some of these could
possibly be connected. Rick, the good
here, good news here tonight is that no
one was injured. We're live in
Holmesburg, John Paul, Channel 6 Action
News. Rick. All right, John, thank you
for that
