Another chance to win a series against a good team.
Yeah, got a chance to see what the Cubs can do with some firepower yesterday, but today
is a new day, hopefully a series win and a happy flight.
It has been 10 straight series undefeated for the Astros, 8-0-2, and they'll try to
keep it going here at home where they play very well.
There is Fromber on the mound today, Astros also very good coming off of losses this year,
there's no better team in baseball, 25-8 after a loss, and they go with this guy, the lefty
today.
Well, Fromber will get a visit on the mound from the first base umpire, Alfonso Marquez,
and his necklace is already broken.
Oh no, that's not good, we need to play a game on the ice.
We need repair work already.
Tried to check his swing, and that is a swing, says Alfonso Marquez, the crew chief, that'll
be a strikeout for Fromber on three pitches.
A couple of fastballs, a broken chain, and a curveball gets you the first out of the
ballgame.
Kyle Tucker put on a great show last night, four hits.
Tucker, down the first baseline, that's a base hit.
Hits off the sidewall, Tucker rounds first to second, it's a one out double for King
Tuck.
Four for five last night, and off to a great start here this afternoon.
So two out, Tucker still at second base for Dansby Swanson, right handed hitting shortstop,
pitched by Fromber.
And Swanson hits it out in the right center, fairly deep, back on it Myers, has plenty
of room, makes the catch a couple of steps shy of the warning track, and the side is
retired.
One out double by Kyle Tucker, but that's all.
Davidson Tyone, second overall pick in the draft, 2010 out of the Woodlands High School,
just up the road.
This will be his third career start here.
Grew up an Astro fan, so I imagine he's got a little extra adrenaline as he takes the
mound here.
Little looper, down the right field line, that's a fair ball.
Paredes will hold on, doesn't want to challenge King Tuck.
That was a three and a half minute at bat, that resulted in a base hit.
Up the middle, that'll be through for a base hit.
Jake Myers a single in the center field, Astros have their first two base runners on.
Runners at first and second.
The pitch to Altuve, strike three call.
He buckled his knees with a curve ball, and that's out number one.
Big strikeout.
So runners at the corners, and two out for Yiner Diaz, Astros catcher.
And it's bounced to short.
Swanson's got it.
Go to second.
There's the force.
That's the inning.
Excellent job by Tyone.
He worked hard, but he gave up no runs.
Pete Crow Armstrong will lead things off against Fromber Valdez.
There's another one, 67 on the year for Fromber with that pitch.
A three-pitch strikeout getting Pete Crow Armstrong.
And back-to-back strikeouts with that curve ball.
68% of his strikeouts on the curve coming in.
That total rising today.
Curve ball grounded left side, charging the third baseman, Guillaume.
He has it, throws to first.
Side retired.
One-two-three inning for Fromber Valdez.
It's a two-out single for Mauricio Dubon and the batter Luis Guillaume.
Now the 2-2 from Tyone.
Strike three call.
Kind of a delayed call by Lance Barrett, the umpire.
Guillaume not overjoyed with that call.
The inning comes to an end.
Strikeout number two for Tyone.
Guillaume.
Justin Turner the batter, first baseman, 40 years old.
Got him.
And a strikeout number four for Valdez.
One away here in the third.
And there's two away.
Over to third base goes John Burdi.
Now it's Fromber against Kyle Tucker, part two.
Ground ball toward the middle.
Mauricio Dubon playing there.
The shortstop just to the left of second base.
He throws out Tucker.
A base runner for the Astros with one out.
Aaron Swanson on the low throw.
Tuve struck out looking his last time up.
He's off.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three.
Myers to second.
Now Tuve down on strikes for the second time today.
Two outs a man at second.
Cam Smith the batter.
Here's the delivery.
Swing and a miss.
Strike three.
Tyone gets the strikeout.
Suzuki lined out to right field his last time up.
Down goes Suzuki.
Got beat with a changeup for the strikeout.
As Fromber now has five strikeouts.
And there's two outs.
Over to second base goes Swanson.
That'll bring up Carson Kelly their catcher.
Curve ball.
Got him.
Strike three.
Six.
Strikeout for Fromber.
Shran's a runner in scoring position.
Fromber.
Tenth all time in franchise history in strikeouts.
Jemison Tyone working on Yiner Diaz.
In the air.
Right center.
Tucker makes the catch.
Here's Dubon who singled his last time up.
Tyone working on Dubon.
Here's a high fly ball.
Left field and deep.
But it is playable for Ian Happ.
He's got it.
And that ends the inning.
Fromber Valdez set to work to Nico Horner.
Grounded out his first time.
Bottom third of the Cubs order due up.
Ground ball.
Two hops.
Guillerme will make the play on the move.
Through in the center field for a base hit.
Turner gets on base with one down here in the fifth.
That'll bring up John Burton.
That one's chopped towards third.
Guillerme with the turn to Altuve.
No chance for a double play.
Pitch on the way.
And this is a ground ball up the third baseline.
Just fair.
Backhanded by Guillerme.
Guns it the first in time.
And the side is retired.
One out hit.
But that's all for the Cubs.
So the Astros get the leadoff man on.
Luis Guillerme with his third hit of the season.
As the Astros looking to break through against Jameson Tyone.
And now back to the top of the order.
And Isak Kouridis in the leadoff spot.
A high fly ball hit to right center field.
It's playable for Tucker who angles over and makes the catch.
Jameson Tyone now a season high 101 pitches.
I know he wants to give Jamo a chance to get through this inning.
Myers to right.
Hit well.
Tucker back.
Shy of the wall.
Makes the catch.
And now it's Altuve's turn.
He struck out twice today.
I would think this is probably going to be the last hitter for Jameson Tyone.
He's at 106 pitches.
He's in the game because he's punched out Altuve twice.
And that's it.
High in the air to left.
Over toward the corner.
Over his half.
On the warning track.
At the wall.
Looking up.
See you later.
Chris Crawford boxes.
Jose Altuve with a two-run homer.
And the Astros lead two to nothing.
Altuve's 13th.
An unfortunate ending for Jamo here today.
Tucker one for two with a double.
Has one of the three hits allowed by Bromber.
And the only extra base hit allowed.
Bromber takes his time.
Throws out Kyle Tucker by a step.
Now it's up to Pete Crow Armstrong.
He's 0 for 2 with a strikeout and a ground out.
Infield shades to pull.
Pitch to Crow Armstrong.
Balancing ball right side.
Sliding stop to his right.
Walker gets to his feet.
Takes it to first side.
Retires.
Nicely done by Walker.
Three ground ball outs to work around a walk for Bromber.
And after five and a half, Astros two.
Cubs nothing.
Brian Brazier back out there.
His first pitch to Yiner Diaz is a high bouncer up the middle.
Charging Swanson.
Bare hands.
Throws.
Got him.
Excellent play by Dansby Swanson.
Did not have much time.
His only shot was to bare hand that ball.
And Diaz is 0 for 3.
Went away.
He did everything perfectly.
Securing the baseball was going to be the toughest part.
And he did it just right.
Let's see if the Cubs can stage a late inning rally.
They've been stymied on three hits by Bromber Valdez today.
Entering his seventh inning of work.
Kelly rips it to left.
And that's a hit.
And it hits off the wall.
Carson Kelly to second.
He slides in safely.
It's a lead off double.
The lead at second by Carson Kelly.
And Nico hits a soft line drive.
It is bobbled.
And everybody is going to be safe.
Altuve came in.
Made an awkward sliding try.
Not a dive.
A slide.
And he did not catch the ball cleanly.
Kelly had to hold at second thinking the ball would be caught.
Nobody out here with first and second.
And Joe Espada is going to go to his pen it looks like.
Bromber will be lifted here.
Two batters in after six shutout innings.
Brian Abreu comes in to make his 38th appearance.
He's had a couple of days off.
He's got to feel good for that right arm that's been used a lot.
Sky's a pop-up on the infield.
Christian Walker comes down from first.
He's the only one that sees it.
There's out number one.
Here's the two-two.
Fastball.
Got him.
Strike three.
Yeiner holds on.
He ticked it.
But not enough.
And there's two away.
Got him.
Upstairs.
Abreu.
Strands both runners.
Brian Abreu puts out the fire.
And the Astros keep the lead.
Brian Abreu retired all three batters.
He faced the seventh.
Back out there.
Swing and a miss.
Abreu strikes out Suzuki.
Three strikeouts in the outing for Abreu and two outs in the inning.
The 0-2.
Swing and a miss.
Overpowered him with a 99-mile-an-hour fastball.
And down goes Swanson.
Side retired.
Brian Abreu six up, six down.
They're going to try and finish it off with Josh Hader
who has been extremely good setting a franchise record
with 22 straight saves.
Swing and a miss.
Hader picks up a strikeout to start this inning.
Cubs down to their final out.
There's Nico Horner in the air.
Playable?
Possibly.
Yeiner Diaz in front of his dugout.
And the Astros win another series.
11 straight undefeated series.
And they finish June with the best record in all of baseball
for the second straight year, 19-7.
