Managers like to talk about win
days.
Well when Terrence Google's on
the mound it is a win day for
the Detroit Tigers and certainly
here in the Motor City in front
of a standing room only crowd
they are ready to see Terrence
Google on the mound.
The two to he was a changeup
that is hard not to chase Ryan
Jeffers in the two spot today
the catcher twenty eight year
old lefty fires this ball is it
to center field frozen there.
Meadows now comes in a few and
he makes the play Carlos Correa
Correa you know that in these
national spotlights and things
he tends to rise to the
occasion.
So you want to just make sure
that he's not one of those guys
that hurt you.
Here it comes to pay off.
And there's some emotion from
Terrence Google bouncing off the
mound with two punch outs.
Chris Paddock gets a start for
the Minnesota Twins tonight.
He had a stretch early this
season where he was great.
If you take the Houston Astros
out the two games he pitched
against them like twelve earned
runs he's under three with his
era against everybody else.
We'll see a lot of foul balls
tonight.
This one is on the ground
ranging over his France.
He will flip it to Patek on the
cover and Keith is retired.
Gleyber Torres steps in Patek
back to back four counts to
start and he got him kept the
slider up.
The Patek is ahead looking for
back to back strikeouts against
Carpenter who changed his swing
in twenty twenty two.
This ball went on his third three
and two count in the first
position.
Carpenter is 16.
And the Tigers get scrambled to
one nothing lead.
Gary Carpenter was watching the
ball game.
He gets to change up he rolls
over Gleyber Torres gets a three
to slider he strikes out.
Gary Carpenter sees this change
up right out of the hand stays
right in the middle and just
gets barrel on it.
Now the lefty Reilly Green
another one to two hooks on the
ground fielded over there nicely
by Brooks Lee and Green is
retired.
Tarek Scubo will face Willie
Castro Ty France and Harrison
Bader the one to and there's that
change up again.
He picks up his third strikeout
in four batters got them all
working already here in the
second inning and he's mixed
everything in.
He's got a great feel for that
change up and look at the spin
on that ball.
The ball just dives out of his
hand.
Francis the batter and there's
another change up in four
strikeouts.
Make that three in a row total
Harrison Bader at the plate
can't school three strikeouts in
the inning.
Eric Scubo can tell these twins
hitters the change up is coming
and they still wouldn't have a
chance.
Brooks Lee Brooks a guy who has
not been seen a lot of fast
balls.
He chased up top and Tarek
Scubo now has six strikeouts in
his first seven hitters and five
in a row.
First one off the fastball way
out of the zone and he's
executing coming.
Here's Jonah.
This is Simon.
Hey Jonah you haven't started in
about 10 days.
Grab a bat.
Seven in the game and six in a
row.
And if the rest of the country
didn't already know about this
young man from Kingman Arizona
they are learning tonight and
now he faces Christian Vasquez.
So now the task falls to Patek
to keep this a one nothing ball
game.
Baez started the year great
guns putting up big numbers
playing in center field five
foul balls ninth pitch of the
in.
Torres struck out swinging in
the first.
He rarely chases.
Really Castro a snow cone grab
right against the barricade in
right field.
Phenomenal catch right there.
Phenomenal play good court
awareness field awareness right
there from Willie knowing where
the wall was that I think he
felt that track underneath his
cleats and was able to hang on
to that ball snow cone play.
Harry Carpenter hit a change up
out for a home run his 16th
first time up digs in with a man
on third two outs one up in
Tigers were in the third.
Byron Buxton digs in looking to
stop the strikeout stretch for
Mr. Tarek.
Byron Buxton gets into one that
sends screen back all the way to
the wall.
Now he comes back in as the wind
is playing tricks with it.
He is able to make the play
which ends the streak of
strikeouts.
And here's Ryan Jeffers swing and
a miss follows up with a ninety
nine mile an hour fastball and
wipes out Jeffers ninth
strikeout.
Eleven batters in nine
strikeouts for Tarek Schubel all
swinging Correa popped up
shallow right Carpenter a one
two three fourth inning this
time just the one strikeout.
But how about a seven pitch
inning for Tarek Schubel.
We go to the fourth inning Riley
Green against Chris Patterson.
Boy Dan is that ever a pretty
swing.
I mean that is just so smooth
kind of just stand there wagging
that bat a little bit gets that
change up to his liking and then
just that nice little smooth
uppercut and the ball taken off
with that flight just like the
bat angle itself.
Willie Castro is facing his
former club right now.
He struck out against Schubel in
the second.
He leads off the fifth the two
soft Tapper back to the mound
fielded by Schubel.
He'll run to first underhand
flick to Spencer Torkelson.
That's about the best the twins
have done putting the ball in
play as Schubel facing France
against one of those nine
strikeouts a ball shot into
right coming hard and not right
between Carpenter and Meadows.
And there is the first hit for
Ty France and the Minnesota
Twins.
Bader struck out swinging in his
first trip to swing and a miss
change up down got him 10th
strikeout for Tarek Schubel.
It'll be up to Lee with France
at first and two out.
That's where he goes that is now
strikeout eleven that brings up
Cole Keith and get him on the
hand.
He's telling everybody it did
and he will go second out in the
fifth inning man on two outs for
Kerry Carpenter that smoked
Farthing Detroit as the
Carpenter puts another nail on
the floor.
But don't look now but Kerry
Carpenter starting to swing it
pretty good.
And we talked about the last
at bat.
Can he eliminate that that
changeup.
And he did the last at bat got
nothing but fastballs and he
jumped on that fastball look
like Kerry Carpenter was running
pretty free and easy.
But now they're out checking on
him.
Yeah on his way to third it was
that that slow gate that we've
seen recently he's been bothered
by a hamstring Kelly Rhodes
assistant trainer out with A.J.
Hinch.
Now he's coming out.
Yeah I just think they don't
want to take any chances.
Three four or five hitters
against Kubo here in the seventh
inning pitch count at eighty
three through six.
So likely his last day with the
shadows.
The changeup was filthy.
Correa is gone.
He's got a dozen strikeouts.
And what I see I see a little
bit of Sandy Kovacs with the
tilt.
Look how high the glove is
France who has the only hit
tonight was after his thirteenth
strikeout.
Final pitch back to back
singles now for the Tigers here
Riley Green one for three with a
home run.
He's homered in consecutive
games.
Riley Green a little squibber
shallow left field coming hard
Bader makes the catch.
What a play by Harrison Bader a
wonderful hit saving catch from
Harrison Bader who just did
sneak the leather underneath
that baseball before it hit the
grass.
How many times have we seen that
this year from Harrison Bader.
What a play.
Will Vest takes over on the
mound to try to close this one
out.
Three nothing Tigers in the
ninth trying for another series
win.
It's up to Jeffers sellout crowd
on their feet.
Ground ball chop the short
Harvey Baez will charge field
flip Tigers win.
What a night at Comerica Park
Tarek Scoble thirteen strikeouts
in seven innings seven in a row
at one point.
