La la la la la la la la.
Oh, hi friends.
Welcome to my art studio.
What?
There's something on my face.
Where?
Here?
No, here?
Here?
Oh, no, I forgot to take my mustache off.
Okay.
Okay, today we are going to be making something super cute.
It's a chicken.
Okay, but not just a chicken, a baby chick.
Okay.
So first we're going to start with the eyes.
Are you ready?
How many eyes does a baby chick have?
You're right, two.
Okay.
So let's make the eyes.
One and two.
And you actually want to make these eyes really far away.
Trust me.
It makes them look extra cute.
Okay, next we're going to make a big smile.
Look at that smile.
So two eyes and a smile.
And then we're going to turn this smile into a smiling beak.
Look at that big chicken smile.
Okay.
Now we're going to make a circle for the head.
Round and round we go.
Oh, yeah, this chicken looks like she's smiling and laughing.
And then on the very top, we'll leave it open to add some chicken feathers.
Okay, now we have to make the body.
Okay, and the body is going to be really easy.
We're going to make the body tiny.
It's kind of a funny sort of cartoon look.
So we're going to make this body like this.
Like a, almost like a snowman.
So one big circle and then another one below.
Next, we have to give this chicken legs.
How many legs does a chicken have?
You're right, two.
Okay.
Now let's give you some legs, chicken.
And three lines here.
There we go.
We got your legs and your chicken feet.
And we'll just put some little lines there.
Now, is this chicken missing something?
Well, think about what do chickens do.
Do they flap their wings?
Yeah.
Okay, we have to give this chicken some wings.
How many wings does a chicken have?
Two.
Okay, so we're seeing a pattern here.
We've got two eyes, two legs, two feet, and two wings.
Okay.
And this chicken looks like she's saying,
Hey, I want a hug.
I'll give you a hug, air hug.
Okay.
Now, we have to paint this chicken.
This is the best part about what we're doing.
So here I've got my paint palette.
And we have lots of colors on this paint palette.
What colors do you see?
Orange.
Yellow.
More yellow.
Purple and blue.
Blue and blue.
Why so much blue?
Well, let's find out.
Oh, and a little bit of red too.
Okay, now friends, should we start with making our chicken orange or yellow?
Or we could even mix it.
Let's mix it.
Okay, a little bit orange in my life.
And a little bit of yellow.
All right, here we go.
And I'm going to paint the chicken's body in here.
Look at how cute.
Oh, man.
I'm loving this.
Okay, and we need a little bit more.
And I like to mix the colors because I think it looks so pretty when you can see both colors mixed in there.
Do you like that?
A little bit of orange and a little bit of yellow.
It's looking good.
All right, and now let's paint the chicken's wings.
Yeah.
All right, now on this side.
And we do our best to stay in the lines, right friends?
But also if you don't or if you have an artistic reason why you don't want to, that is a-okay.
All right, here we go.
And we can go back at the end and add a little more paint where we need to.
Okay, what do we have left to do?
The chicken's head.
Okay, let's do it.
Round and round we go.
Whee!
Okay, we're almost done painting this adorable chicken.
I love this.
Okay, we need a little more orange and a little more yellow.
Beautiful.
Okay.
Now friends, what color should we make the chick's beak?
Hmm.
Oh, I got a little orange in there.
That's okay.
Right?
We're having fun.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
What's the most important thing about art?
It's having fun.
100%.
And now we're going to make this beak yellow.
Hello, yellow.
Okay, we are almost done.
Now friends, what color should we make the chicken feathers on the top?
Oh, I heard someone say purple.
Okay, why not?
Like I said, art is about having fun.
All right.
Now chicken, you've got some beautiful purple feathers on the top.
Okay, now that we have our chicken all painted.
Wait, are we forgetting something?
We almost forgot to paint the chicken's legs.
Now, chicken legs are somewhere between orange and red.
Kind of like, more like a brown.
So I'm actually going to mix some colors here.
I'm going to mix the orange.
I'm going to mix the red.
I'll mix a little purple to make it darker.
Ooh, it's starting to turn brown.
I think we need more purple.
Okay, we're close.
We're about to have brown paint.
Yay!
Brown paint is actually pretty easy to make
because there's a lot of different colors you can mix together
to achieve a brownish kind of color here.
You know, I think we need a little yellow.
Okay, this is the right brown.
I see it.
Okay, now let's make the chicken legs.
Chicken legs.
Chicken, chicken, chicken legs.
Hey, all right.
And the chicken feet too.
Don't forget about the chicken feet.
Okay, now I think we should make a background.
So what color should we paint the sky, my friends?
Yeah, what if we did a little bit of blue
mixed with a little bit of purple
and it'll look like a sunset.
Wow, look at how beautiful.
I see some purple and some blue.
Maybe we could put a little orange in there.
Wow, that looks like a gorgeous night sky.
Friends, when I make a sky,
I like to mix other colors besides blue
because sometimes when we look in the sky,
we see other colors besides blue too, right?
So we can mix actually a lot of colors into the sky.
Wow, look at that.
This is gorgeous.
Oh, you know what?
I'm gonna make a cloud.
Let's make a little cloud over here.
Wow, that is cute.
Hey baby chick, you are a cutie patootie, right?
Okay, we are almost done here.
Making our beautiful sky
with hues of blue and purple and red and gorgeousness.
Okay, and now what do you think this chicken is standing on?
Hmm, my guess is the chicken is standing on green.
But we don't have green here.
What are we gonna do?
Friends, do you know what two colors make green?
Oh, cool.
Okay, blue and yellow.
Let's see.
Blue and yellow.
Mix it up and you have got green paint.
Oh, I love this color green too.
It's really nice and bright.
Okay, now let's, ooh, ooh, I like that.
We got a little bit of the other paint colors in there,
which I always think looks good to mix it up.
Yeah, grass, grass, grass, grass, grass, grass, grass, grass, grass.
Grass.
Okay, and we're getting our grass on this side.
Okay, let's pretend that our paintbrush is a roller coaster.
Whoa, that was fun.
Okay, and now friends, should we add maybe some flowers?
Okay, I was thinking we'd add red flowers.
What do you think?
Okay, let's do it.
Now, I have this really fun kind of paintbrush.
It is this like spongy round brush.
I'm gonna do this to get some of the water out of it and
then we're gonna use it to make round flowers.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
You know what?
I think it would look better if we add a few more balls here.
One, two, hey, stop running on me.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten,
eleven, twelve.
Oh, what if we add a little purple here?
Yeah, look at how gorgeous that looks.
Okay, should we make one more flower?
Okay, let's do it.
Okay, another red and purple flower coming for you.
Hey, stop running, I said.
And we can make these like big long flowers.
Wow, beautiful.
I love it.
Okay, friends.
Now, is there anything that we would like to do before
finishing this beautiful chickadee artwork?
Oh, I know.
What if we write the word chicken right here in the
middle?
Okay, let's do it.
Now, chicken is a really interesting word because it
starts with the sound ch, but the sound ch is not a letter
sound, right?
No, the sound ch is CH, okay?
And it's actually called a digraph.
So we're going to put a CH here.
We remember that when C and H come together, they make a
ch sound.
Chicken.
CH
I
C
K
kind of a silent K there.
E
N
Chicken.
Now, what's the last thing that all great artists do on
their artwork?
They sign their work with their names.
So I'm going to write Miss Julie here in the cloud.
But when you do this at home, make sure to write your own
name.
Okay, I'm going to write Miss Julie right here.
N
S
J
U
L
I
E
Miss Julie.
Should I put a little heart?
Yeah, I love putting little hearts near my name.
That's so cute.
Okay, everyone.
Now, remember what we said earlier?
This chicken wants a hug.
Can we give this chicken an air hug?
One, two, three.
Air hug.
Thank you for painting with me, my friends.
That was so much fun.
What a super cute chick.
And these chicks are so cute, too.
That just reminded me of my favorite song, Boom Chicka Boom.
I had so much fun learning with you today.
