When you've gone through a game
like the Braves went through
last night nothing better than
to have arguably your best
pitcher on the bump the next day
and Spencer Schwell he is so hot
and he is the kind of guy that
can carry a ball club after a
loss.
Spencer Schwellenbach has been
absolutely nails five and one to
seventy five era twelve walks
sixty eight strikeouts and an 0
ninety two.
We have he's the right guy on
this staff for this situation.
Schwellenbach one two to Turner
is a bouncing ball to the left
side.
The third baseman Wiley said
some tough defensive moments
this season but he makes a
strong play to retire the
Philadelphia leadoff man.
There's Kyle Schwarzer.
He needs six more before the
All-Star break and don't put it
past him.
He might do it to tie Mike
Schmidt for the club record for
most homers before the All-Star
break a fastball Schwarzer
lines it to center.
White came in then went back and
he misplays his first chance in
center field in quite some time.
Now Alec Boehm to the plate
runner in second one out.
Now at the bottom of the zone
with a slider three outstanding
pitches by Schwellenbach.
Boehm frustrated with the call.
Let's see if Castellano stays
aggressive to to delivery to
Castellanos and he gets him with
that splitter saw a good mix of
that arsenal from Spencer
Schwellenbach in the first.
The Braves will take out a slew
of lefties starting today with a
guy who has been very good most
of this season and Jesus
Luzardo.
He started a great run of
Philadelphia pitching over the
last week.
They've allowed just six runs in
their last five games.
We'll see the electric Ronald
Acuna Junior right out of the
gate tonight for this Atlanta
lineup Acuna muscles went into
right field and just like that
the Braves get a knock.
They had nine hits last night.
It's not like they didn't have
traffic.
They've got the leadoff man
aboard tonight.
Here's Olsen and he goes the
other way as he often has as of
late dumps it in the left center
Acuna trying to go first to
third and he will.
The Braves struggling get a big
ovation from some of these fans
as the first two men have
reached the first out.
Now Riley wouldn't it be nice to
get on the board early.
Be the team that scores first
and put the pressure on the
Phillies.
Little number to a tough spot
Scott is going to get to the
ball but the run will score and
the crowd is over for Atlanta.
Olsen is safe at second.
Riley will take it anyway he can
get it and the Braves will to
their first run since Wednesday
night in the ninth inning and
they strike first tonight one
nothing in favor of the Braves
and the last pitch a strike on
Kepler one to pitch fandom at
time the splitter got the best
of Kepler three straight
strikeouts for Schwellenbach and
two way here on the top of the
second inning goes waving at
that curve ball that was out of
the zone.
You see his frustration and
already four strikeouts to the
first two innings for Spencer
Schwellenbach.
A one out walk to Eli White
Braves leading one nothing here
Stuart Fairchild three one pitch
shoots it to right field well
struck Castellanos back at the
wall and he plays it off the
brick it dumps right down at the
base of the wall and that is
extra bases once again for
Fairchild who had two hits last
night when he came in for Acuna
both were doubles and they're
still sitting in a good
situation.
Runners at second and third one
down for Allen trying to add on
to the one nothing lead here in
the bottom of the second inning
Nick Allen two for four last
night.
He's been swinging a pretty good
bat and he connects in a line
driving to left field for a base
hit in the score white.
Here comes Fairchild throw on a
left field by Kepler play at the
plate a feet first slide and
they've got him good throw by
Kepler out of left field J.T.
Rowe Muto got a perfect bounce
right to him and he was waiting
on the incoming Fairchild.
Here's Olsen to nothing Atlanta
and two men on and it's grounded
right side Scott dives.
He's got it corrals it throws
the first and it's in time.
Oh what a play by Bryson Stott
out in shadow right field as he
saves more damage with a
terrific play on Matt Olsen.
Otto Kemp leads off one and two
on Kemp.
Here it comes from Schwellenbach
a late called third strike by
Jeremy Rehag.
Whoa whoa look however long it
takes to get the strikeout you'll
take it.
But that was an extra beat or
two.
So two down back to the top of
the order to Trey Turner.
Trey Turner goes fishing at a
slider six strikeouts to the
first 10 batters faced for that
potential all star at just twenty
five years of age one pitch one
out brings up Alec Bowe who
struck out looking his first
time up.
Three man back to back at bats
that Bowe has looked at a slider
to strike out that seven case
now two down on the fourth for
Nick Castellanos.
Oh to the Castellanos take a
swing and a hike got him with a
slider.
He needed a bow door to reach
that thing.
It was a long way from him.
He still pulled the trigger
Spencer's on a roll.
He has spent three of the last
four for the last six.
He has faced eight and all his
career high as eleven.
He's done that three times
including once this year against
Boston and he got number nine
right there on Kepler.
That's three straight Phillies
that have been twelve in a row
sat down by him got it working
J.T. real Muto the batter went
back to the slider there and
froze real Muto real Muto can't
believe it.
Six of the 10 K's on that
slider.
He's just really good.
He's rolling this time he lifts
one down the left field line
slicing near the line and there
is Fairchild and he makes the
catch and that was a really
quick fifth inning seven pitch
one two three inning in the
fifth from Spencer Schwellenbach
what a turnaround here for
Luzardo second and third nobody
out he gets a comebacker and
then a called third strike and
that'll bring up Ozzie Albies
the infield could back up now
and Luzardo could get out of
this inning with two down on the
pitch swinging a ground ball
towards third backhand Boehm
gloves it off balance throw and
Kemp reels it in and Jesus
Luzardo gets out of the jam.
Spencer Schwellenbach has been
near untouchable Marsh leads
from Seckers to walk issued by
Spencer he had a base open and
it's going to bring up Alec
Baum who has not seen it so well
against Schwellenbach.
Now they're still right in this
ballgame because Atlanta's
offense has not broken it open
to try to get Philadelphia on
the board first pitch breaking
ball swings away bounces it up
the middle for a base hit.
Brandon Marsh will come in and
score Schwerder will chug his
way in a third of that throw
gets away from Riley but it
takes a friendly Atlanta bounce.
In its second is Alec Baum as he
finally gets a hit off of
Schwellenbach it drives in a run
and cuts the lead in half as
it's two to one only 77 pitches
for Spencer Schwellenbach as we
go to the seventh but he's also
only got a two to one lead one
down with one more strikeout
Schwellenbach would tie his
career high real Muto waves and
a slider that is a career high
tying eleven strikeouts for
Spencer Schwellenbach third time
in his career he's done it two
outs in the seventh inning.
We'd love to see one more set a
new career high for Schwellenbach
one to the start struck him out
that strikeout number twelve
fastball ninety eight and just
fuel it up and shot it right on
by stop.
So that's a new career high for
Spencer Schwellenbach with a
dozen strikeouts tonight in this
performance versus the Phillies
tonight a career high twelve
strikeouts for the guy who's
right now the anchor of a
banged up Atlanta rotation.
And now if you're a starting
pitcher in this situation like
our boys open this game up and
the bases are loaded for Sean
Murphy it's been a lack of power
all year long.
They don't have a grand slam.
Murphy's in position for one now
to try to bust the game open
three straight hits for the
Braves make it four and slam and
slam and the Braves take a
charging lead here in the
seventh inning on the grand
slam by Murphy.
It's now six one Braves his
first in a month makes it a five
run lead for Atlanta.
Well I'd say that's a feel good
inning all the way around for
the Atlanta Braves hitters and
for Schwellenbach now a five run
lead standing in the way of a
Braves win the night J.T.
Romero is over three a pitch in
the air to center Michael Harris
is back Michael's got a beat on
it and he squeezes it for the
final out and the Braves win six
to one over the Phillies it was
a grand slam by Sean Murphy that
gave the Braves the breathing
room they were seeking and what
a great job on the mound by
Spencer Schwellenbach a career
best twelve strikeouts.
