OVERCOMING MY PHONE ADDICTION
I'm sharing how to overcome a cell phone addiction! My cell phone has become my worst enemy. So many days I found myself mindlessly scrolling social media and pretty much anything that crossed my path and by the end of the day I hadn't done anything I truly wanted to do and I couldn't tell you what I did that was actually productive. I knew I needed a change because it was making me miserable.
i've never told anybody this not even my
wife when i started doing what i did to
help bring down my screen time my first
week i was down 36
i spent a lot of time on my phone i
spent hours upon hours
every single week it's something that
i've known i struggled with i literally
would some nights go to bed and
to be completely honest and transparent
i've never told anybody this not even my
wife i would go to bed and cry
to myself because of how much i hated
um how much i was on my phone that day
and realizing that i could have taken
that time to spend with my kids taking
that time to invest into them instead of
scrolling on social media granted i use
my phone for work as well but that's
another problem because i'll pull up my
phone to do something work related and
then instantly get distracted on social
media i was spending probably around
eight hours a day on my phone
and i realized that was a problem a lot
of people don't recognize the addiction
that this thing can be i posted a video
on facebook and youtube before
where i got another phone
and it didn't have all the apps but it
just wasn't conducive to what i needed
it to do for work and things like that
to whenever i was out and about needing
to have access to that stuff
so i really had to figure out a
different way and a different approach
to
being on this thing less i will say when
i started doing um what i did to help
bring down my screen time my first week
i was down 36
from the week before that and so i'm
going to share with you what i've been
doing so that i'm not on my phone all
day long so here is my
tips to you guys how to break up with
your phone how to put it down and not be
on it all day long so the first thing
was this and this is what really like
kicked it off and made it something that
i i could continue to do i saw someone
post a little instagram post something
about people that are successful the
first hour of their day they don't even
touch their phones they don't look at it
when they first wake up they leave it
for the first hour of their day and the
first morning is really hard because i'm
so used to that literally the first
thing i do is grab my phone every single
morning oh what's going on what i miss
through the night what am i what i miss
what's going on this morning like even
in the middle of the night i wake up
to go to the bathroom or something
and grab my phone what's going on like
it's crazy so that was like the hardest
thing
to do was to like actually the hardest
thing was just leaving my phone it
wasn't even having it gone for an hour
once i walked away and was downstairs
doing other things it was so easy to not
have my phone on me it felt freeing and
i felt uh like i could do so many more
things for my day and my days felt
longer first hour day leave your phone
by your bed
get up don't look at it don't touch it
walk away from it go to your kitchen
make a coffee do something that you
normally would do but don't have your
phone that's going to be the biggest
change a game changer and you're going
can do so many things like have a
conversation with your kids think and
have ideas and get in creative thoughts
will start coming into your mind because
you won't be
focused on something else all day long
literally that first day without it felt
so much longer like i had so much more
time i always told myself i don't have
time for this i don't have time for that
i don't have time to do all these things
that i want to do but i had the time i
was just wasting it
on this so
leave your phone
by your bed don't touch it for the first
hour because what happened was then when
i did that the first hour went to two
hours and then went to three hours but
the first day i did that i had i was on
the phone for like maybe two hours total
and that was including like when i was
in in bed just looking at some stuff
that night throughout the day it was
literally like maybe an hour i was
looking at my phone from there i did
that over and over and over again until
about the third or fourth day i didn't
even realize when i didn't have my phone
on me it was literally like my fourth
day of not having my phone on me all the
time and i've
walked down the door without my phone i
went down to the mailbox with the kids
and i did and we went for a walk around
the neighborhood and it was halfway
through that walk that i realized oh my
goodness i don't even have my phone on
me i didn't even think about bringing it
with me
because it was just not a natural
instinct to go checking for it so i
recommend taking that first hour and
then seeing how much longer you can go
without it i would recommend to maybe
check it once an hour and set like in
your mind like okay i'm going to check
my phone i'm not going to go into any of
the like social media apps i'll save
that for the evening but i'm just gonna
check my phone real quick see if anybody
called me that i need to respond to
you know and then if they didn't put it
down walk back out and honestly like i
take it and i throw it on my bed or
something like this like
like this like evil thing like get it
out of my hands quick
and it felt nice even before you do all
that i turned my phone notifications off
a long time ago so i have a few like i
like messenger things that i actually
need like when people are sending me
messages business related things i have
stuff set up for that but like instagram
notifications when people comment on
stuff facebook notifications when people
comment stuff those are all turned off
and they have been turned off so i would
highly recommend doing that first
turning all those things off so that
you're not constantly getting hit up by
people and then seeing what's going on
then getting sucked into it so here is
uh my first week
with putting my phone down three hours
and 18 minutes
and then the next was four hours and 12
minutes so but even now i do sense
myself
picking my phone back up not leaving it
in my room as much so i'm trying to get
back into doing that because that
literally helped so much and i felt so
free to do so many things
so that's
really pretty much it it's like a couple
things to do but if you can do them and
make them happen
uh you will absolutely see a huge time
difference on your phone so here's what
i would suggest to do if you're trying
to get off your phone
um and be on it a lot less
post your time here i want to see how
much time you've been on it but then go
make a video just like this on your
facebook
um
just telling people that you're trying
to get off your phone you don't have to
give them all the tips but you can say
hey i'm trying to get off my phone is
there anyone out there who wants to hold
me accountable and vice versa and create
a little community within your own
friends of moms or dads that need to get
away from your phones
and
let's start helping each other out so
let me know if there's any tips i missed
in the comments below the more ideas we
can come up with the better so that we
can all help each other out and really
rally to be better people and be just
raise our kids better and to you know
show them be a better example to them
um and just be more intentional with
them throughout our days but also like
if you have ideas and things you want to
do you'll realize how much time you
actually do have when you see how many
hours you spend on your phone a day it's
like that's time i could be put into you
know starting this business i wanted to
start or starting this uh a youtube
channel or just whatever you want to do
you'll see you actually do have some
time for it so in the comments below let
me know what you're gonna do with your
time too i've been wanting to work on
more music and that's just kind of what
i'm trying to do with my time so um
anyways i love you guys i hope this was
helpful and i'll talk to you later bye
