Listen to French composer Gabriel Fauré's Pavane, Op. 50 + view Claude Monet paintings.

I was inspired by my sons violin teacher from Cairns Violin Studio. She sent an email about Fauré, seeing some students are learning a piece of his. This is what she said -

"Gabriel Faure was a French composer born in 1845 and died in 1924.

He was a pianist and organist, composer and teacher.

His style made the bridge between the romantic and 20th century more modern compositions.

His music is described as “refined elegance and gentle “.

His choice of harmonies and change of keys often come as a refreshing surprise, which reminds me of a painters palette. 🎨
The rhythm is often fluid and light.

For this reason, I would like to associate his compositions to the painters of his time:
Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gaugin, Seurat.

Serra in particular with the “pointillisme”, blends in pastel and subtle colours, and the accumulation of dots create a soft impression for the whole artwork. This reminds me greatly of Faure’s compositions.

Feel free to further investigate/compare other painters of Faure’s period, and share your thoughts with us. "

We were also sent a beautiful painting by Seurat.

I investigated some painters from this same period and found an inspiring video with Monet and Fauré however it was missing some of my favorite paintings of his. So I decided to make my own. Both French, living around the same time. When we see the pairing of Fauré and Monet, it transports you back to a time that once was...can you imagine life back then?

I will continue to make these videos on a playlist so children (+adults) can view these as a taster for classic musicians and artists.

With the wish this may help develop an appreciation of beautiful + uplifting art & classical music.

To learn more about the paintings of Claude Monet with your children,

“We cannot measure the influence that one or another artist has upon the
child’s sense of beauty, upon his power of seeing, as in a picture, the common sights of life; he is enriched more than we know in having really looked at even a single picture”
(Home Education, p. 309).
Charlotte Mason says that it rests with parents and no others to provide an intellectual culture by which she means, “not so much the getting of knowledge, nor even getting the power to learn, but the cultivation of the power to appreciate, to enjoy, whatever is just, true, and beautiful in thought and expression” (Formation of Character, p. 212, emphasis mine).

Thanks for watching.
