In this episode of Timeless Catalyst, I’m reviewing The Coastal by Golby Watches — a colourful, compact tool watch in a diver style that captures the laid-back spirit of a sunlit beach day.
With its 36mm brushed case, sapphire crystal, signature wave-pattern dial, and premium Miyota 90S5 automatic movement, The Coastal is a watch designed for everyday adventure. I go hands-on with the packaging, dial details, bracelet, lume, and more — and share my honest thoughts on its size, build quality, and beach-inspired aesthetic.
Picture yourself on a sunlit beach. Book in hand, drink by your side,
the sound of the waves in the background. It's your happy place, isn't it?
Now let me introduce you to a watch designed to capture that very feeling.
Hello, this is Calis from Torun. In this Timeless Catalyst episode,
I'm reviewing the Coastal by Golbi. Before we dive in, I want to thank
Craig and Sarah Golbi for lending me this timepiece and making this review possible.
Let's dive into the details, beginning with the packaging.
Let's start with the unboxing experience. The Coastal arrives in a matte black
presentation box. And inside, you are greeted by a travel watch wall.
At this point, I have one suggestion to Golbi colleagues. I would have the watch box,
maybe wooden or leather, to create an even stronger first impression. I'm going to talk
about it very shortly, but the watch has beach theme, beach houses theme. There could be some
elements on the box as well to create that first impression. Now on to the dial.
The Coastal features a 36mm case crafted from 316L stainless steel.
The thickness is 10.7mm. And the luck to luck measurement is 44mm.
It's a compact watch, having a light presence on the wrist. I'm going to show you shortly.
Up top, we have a sapphire crystal face with 5 layers of inner anti-reflective coating.
The watch also features Golbi's trademark oil press dial with the pattern of waves.
The case has a brushed finish. In my earlier episodes, I talked about the comparison between
polished finish and brushed finish. Polished cases show the scratches more and also smudges
and dirt are easily visible. For this reason, some watch enthusiasts prefer brushed cases for
diver watches. I think with the brushed case, you can use the Coastal on a daily basis with peace
of mind. The watch has a solid case back with an original artwork engraved. And the watch has a
water resistance of 200m. So guys, inside the Coastal is the Miyota 90S5 automatic movement.
This is part of Miyota's premium automatic line. It tells the time via traditional three-hand
display, seconds, hours, minutes, with no date option. And the watch has a premium and robust
movement inside. With the bracelet, the Coastal comes with fitted with a 5-link 304L stainless
steel bracelet. It feels solid and well built. I always check if there is a wobbly feeling guys.
There is not a major wobbly feeling in my opinion. I will show you on the wrist. It features a
butterfly clasp. As you see guys, there is a quick release spring bars and you can change it to
different bracelets. It's always fun to do it. For any reason, if you want to kind of like move from
the bracelet, you can just put some other colorful alternatives and make the watch more playful in my
opinion. So guys, as I mentioned, Coastal is a really compact watch. It's 36mm. I'm going to
talk about it later on as well, just to show you with the bracelet option. It feels like really
light. The dial kind of pops up. And as I mentioned you guys, you don't get this wobbly feeling.
Sometimes even when you move your wrist, you get this wobbly feeling. But this is not the case with
Coastal. Guys, you know, I'm such a big fan of lumination and a big shout out to the Galway
colleagues. This watch has an amazing BGW9 Superluminova. It's not only on the hour markers,
hour and minute hand, but also on the bezel. And in my opinion, that looks amazing. So guys, here are my
final thoughts on the Coastal. It's a colorful, compact and practical watch. Personally, I prefer
watches with a large dial. I feel 36mm looks small on my wrist, but it's up to you to decide.
As a side note, Galway is working on a larger diameter watch, either a 41 or 42mm to be launched
towards the end of the summer. And I will review this watch for you as well. So stay tuned. The
Coastal has six colorways in the range. There is the purple one, orange, teal and gray and two with
full bezels in all white and all black. The color inspiration for the range was taken from the bright
and bold beachhuts found lining the shores. In terms of pricing, as of the recording date, the watch
is on sale for £349, which is almost 640 Canadian. The price may change later, but it will still be
in the affordable range. If you want a watch that's practical for everyday wear, but still gives you
that beachy and the summer vibe, the Coastal is the one you will want to keep on your radar.
