The Wonders of Pinnacles & Desert Discovery l Day Tour l Western Australia l A Muslim Traveller

Pinnacles are unique limestone formations spread around the desert in Nambung National Park, Western Australia. But how are they formed? How old are they and why do they exist here in such abundance and spectacular form?
The pinnacles are believe to have formed underground, possibly around 500 thousand years ago during the Ice Age. Yet, in geological terms, the pinnacles are considered very young. They may have remained buried for most of the time or have been repeatedly exposed and buried again over the millennia until they reappeared few hundred years ago.
The pinnacles are ~2 hours drive from Perth. Can easily be done in a day. It has two tracks, one walking trail and other for vehicles. 2WD cars can easily do that, no need of 4WD. 15 AUD national park fee applies. Toilets and plenty of parking available.
One thing I noticed that the area was quite windy. The wind speed was more than 30 km/hr, fast enough to deter to me to take out and fly my drone. I will try again, some time later.
Pinnacles Desert Discovery Centre in Nambung National Park allows one to experience the Pinnacles desert in its full diversity. It displays videos, sounds, stuffed animals and insects local to the area. A gift shop stocking products that reflect the values of the site is also part of it. There is no separate fee for discovery center and entry is included in AUD 15 national park ticket. Though the main attraction in Nambung NP is pinnacles, you must include this center in your trip. 15~20 minutes are more than enough.
