Shazbot, name of the wind, name of the wind.
Shazbot suggested this movie and paid for a review of it.
So let me just say first,
let me get the bad stuff out of the way.
I don't particularly like Japanese animation.
The Wind Rises, that is it.
The Wind Rises, The Wind Rises.
Yes.
Not Gone with the Wind, The Wind Rises.
Japanese movie, not a movie glorifying the South.
The Wind Rises is a Japanese movie.
About a, it's animated.
So I don't particularly like Japanese animation.
It's Miyazaki, Miyazaki is the director, I guess.
And the movie's called The Wind Rises.
I don't particularly like,
I know you guys like Japanese animation.
A lot of you grew up on it.
I like Pixar and Disney animation.
I find it simplistic and childish.
Now, they managed to somehow convey emotions with it,
but I don't think as powerfully as they could
if they were using more realistic animation.
Granted that, it was beautifully done.
The movie is beautiful.
The combination of story, music, and drawing
was quite striking, emotionally riveting
in a positive sense.
The story is beautiful.
It's touching.
It's value-driven.
It's about a man who wants to do this.
Now, it's undermined a little bit
by the fact that he is designing warplanes
for the Japanese before World War II.
But it's based on a true story.
And what you get from the movie
is this kid and then guy's real passion
for science, for building these planes,
for designing them, for beautiful things,
for designing beautiful things,
for making things that are beautiful.
And it was inspiring.
It was very pro-science, pro-production.
It was very touching.
There was a love story,
very beautiful love story in the background.
But you can see that his central purpose in life
is his career.
His central purpose in life, in spite of the love,
is the planes.
So I enjoyed it.
Again, I'm not crazy about the animation.
I think it could have been even more powerful
with the right kind of animation.
But I get that some people really like that.
So if you like, certainly if you like Japanese animation,
this is definitely a movie worth seeing.
The wind rises.
It's got positive values.
Again, ultimately he's designing warplanes.
And they fly with bombs.
And they kill people.
But it's truly beautifully done.
And a heroic character.
And it's about living and staying alive
and pursuing life and pursuing your values
and pursuing the things that you really care about.
The things that are most important to you.
And it's about career
and about your central purpose being a career.
So I really enjoyed it, recommend it.
So first Charles Budd movie I've actually enjoyed.
What we need today, what I call the new intellectual
would be any man or woman who is willing to think.
Meaning any man or woman who knows
that man's life must be guided by reason,
by the intellect, not by feelings, wishes,
whims or mystic revelation.
Any man or woman who values his life
and who does not want to give in to today's cult
of despair, cynicism and impotence.
And does not intend to give up the world
to the dark ages and to the rule of the collectivist rule.
