The Single-Valve Diesel Radial that Almost Changed Aviation

The Packard DR-980 was often called revolutionary. Even though it didn't really change aviation to a massive extent, it was however a break-though engine featuring several interesting design features that had an impact on many aviation engines going forward. Even so, the engine had a very short production life before it ultimately disappeared. In this video we'll look at the relevant history and the engine's design and find out why it was considered revolutionary, and why production was stopped so soon after going on the market.
