Who Are The Largest Disability Insurance Companies? (Disability Benefit Tip #59)

Attorney Gregory Dell talks about the five largest disability insurance companies out of 26 companies evaluated in a recent study of the disability market. Overall, the long term disability market in 2019 generated over 12.5 billions dollars in premiums. The largest company in terms of revenues based on premiums is Unum, followed closely by Hartford, Lincoln, New York Life and MetLife. (Three of these companies merged with other carriers, Hartford with Aetna, Lincoln with Liberty Mutual, and New York Life with Cigna). The five companies noted made up for 65% of the total market for long term disability premiums in 2019, and ten companies made up for 95% of the total market.
