In this episode, the play takes place in two surreal spaces. With similar philosophical thoughts to mainstream teachings, it depicts the teaching experience of two sages, and how their thoughts and sayings were compiled into books.

In 1512 AD in the Ming Dynasty, Wang Yangming was teaching Xu Ai and other disciples that "Knowledge is the idea of practice, and practice is the way to use knowledge." Xu Ai proposed to record these thoughts of Wang Yangming into a book.

Master Tseng once said, "Have I failed to repeat the precepts that have been handed down to me?" This is consistent with Wang Yangming and Xu Ai's intention – to review the precepts that have been handed down. So, they named this book Instructions for Practical Living.

At the end of the Spring and Autumn period, Confucius gave lectures to his disciples. The similar teaching experience of Wang Yangming and Confucius reflects the inheritance of Confucianism.
