The 'Menuet-Trio' is a typical finale for Haydn, as can be seen in his subsequent sonatas.

In old copies and prints, as well as in EK, the solo cycles up to 1771 are headed by the titles 'Divertimento' or 'Partita'.¹ However, it is almost impossible to assign special characteristics to the divertimentos and partitas, as there is no distinction in their makeup. Although Haydn reserves the term 'Sonata' until 1771 for the impressive Sonata in C minor Hob. XVII:20, this should not be given too much significance, as the solo cycles from the late 1760s are also substantial works despite having the older title 'Divertimento'.

The early solo sonatas were classified as 'Kenner' (connoisseur) or 'Liebhaber' (amateur).
