Come with us for life on the road in Montana USA, as we prepare to travel down to Utah through Yellowstone and Wyoming.
Today's video is sponsored by Safety Wing Nomad Insurance.
We'll figure it out. We'll just go and figure it out. Yeah, just wing it.
We're driving towards Yellowstone hoping to see some signs or get some
service so we can check our maps and find a fuel station because
we've only got about a quarter of a tank left which for this isn't that much
and so far we haven't seen anything and we don't have any phone service.
We're Lloyd and Mandy, a Canadian-Aussie couple that spent the last 18 months
traveling as digital nomads through Southeast Asia and Mexico.
Now we're in North America having a crack at full-time RV life.
All right we're just somewhere in Montana. Where are we?
Philipsburg. Philipsburg. And we're making our way down
slowly but surely to Yellowstone. We're driving to big
Sky. Big Sky. Big Sky today because it looks awesome.
It's a ski town. We're gonna spend a couple days there. We've been to a few places
that have a name with big in it. We've been to Big Arm,
Big Fork and now we're going to Big Sky. Everything's bigger in America.
Everything's very big in Montana and Mandy's driving for the first time
since the day we bought this RV. What made you decide to drive today?
I feel bad but also I need to do more. It's okay I don't mind driving but
cool if I get to be a passenger today and I'm gonna film maybe.
But I've got a bear on me. This is why you wanted to drive.
Yeah I needed a break from bear.
Use your mirrors.
All right we just got to Big Sky Montana
and first impressions pretty bloody awesome.
We really like it. It's sort of a strange little town. All the buildings
and all the houses and stuff look like they were built like on the same day
like with the same materials but it's really cool. Yeah
it looks like a brand new town. I'm not sure how long it's been around for
but the houses here are really nice. The shops are all really nice. It's very
quiet at the moment. We went to one of the local bars
for a beer and it was pretty much empty but it is a Sunday.
One of the locals gave us a tip to check out some waterfalls. Remember what they
Usal Falls. We're going to check them out do a bit of exploring and then we'll
find a campsite for tonight but we really like it here.
We want pizzas every day from seven to eight. Well that's us tonight. Is that
every day though? Because that other bar we went to yesterday said
every day. Yeah. And when I asked her about it she said no not on Sundays.
Sunday's a day. We could try.
A couple stickers and a couple beer stubby coolers. Stubby holders.
Stubby holders. I don't know what to call them anymore. The acoosie.
They just went into the visitor center here in Bay Sky and the girls in there
were so helpful. Got some nice little touristy things so
we can keep for the RV. We really needed beer coolers. They just
pretty much gave us a full rundown on the best way to head into Yellowstone
so that's what we're going to be doing tomorrow. We're going to do just a day
trip through Yellowstone and head in through the west entrance they
said was the best way. Yeah we need to figure out where we're
going to stay in Yellowstone. Yeah. I think we need two days there and
that means we have to stay overnight. Yeah. But it looks like everything's
booked out. We'll figure it out. We'll just go and figure it out. Yeah.
Just wing it. We're just gonna go check out the cinema because Lloyd says that
it plays NBA and NHL playoffs in there
so we'll go check that out. It's weirdly dead here.
I know we're here in the wrong season but it's so nice it's weird that there's
not more people here. We only missed the video games
tonight. Do you want to go play video games? Not really.
Basketball on Friday Saturdays.
All right we just need to say a quick thank you to Safety Wing for sponsoring
today's video and making this free content possible.
Since we left Australia back in 2021 to travel full-time
we've had peace of mind knowing that we're covered in case anything goes
wrong while we're overseas and that's because we've been using
Safety Wing since day one and thankfully we did because on the one occasion we
did have to use the assistance of Safety Wing.
They got us through a pretty sticky situation. In fact at one point I was so
sick in Mexico Lloyd had to call Safety Wing because he thought he was going to
have to take me to the emergency room and when we rang Safety Wing they were
super helpful and let us know all the hospitals that we
could go to that we'd be able to claim our money back and they also told us
what hospitals to avoid because sometimes they'll charge you way more
than what they're supposed to. We also got extremely sick at the start
of our trip in Bali and had a nurse come to our room for seven days straight
which wasn't exactly cheap but luckily our Nomad insurance completely covered
us and we were reimbursed within 30 days of
making our claim. Just knowing that we're covered in case of an emergency
health scare like that has given us the confidence and freedom
to keep traveling without worrying about racking up huge debts from hospital
bills and not only do they cover us for
medical bills including COVID-19, we're also covered for any loss of
luggage or personal items, airline delays and even things like
natural disasters and personal liability.
With coverage starting at as little as $45 a month it's kind of a no-brainer
and with no lock-in contracts you can cancel at any time.
We'll leave the link in the description to Safety Wing if you're interested in
joining we highly recommend it. All right now back to the video.
So the waterfall was a lot more hectic than the pictures that we were shown
wasn't it? Oh yeah. The pictures that she showed us were like really mellow
and the waterfalls look like you could actually go down into them and like take
pictures and stuff in front of them but yeah as you can see
overflowing and probably just because all the snow that's melting at the
moment but still very beautiful and this walk
has been amazing. Every hike that we've been on in North
America everything's just like so well kept and clean but and easy to
access the trails like kind of take that for granted when I was
a kid.
Definitely.
All right so we just left our campsite where there was no service
and we're driving towards Yellowstone hoping to see some signs or get some
service so we can check our maps and find a fuel station because
we've only got about a quarter of tank left which for this isn't that much
and so far we haven't seen anything and we don't have any phone service
and I think we're in Yellowstone already because Mandy saw a sign saying
what did it say? Welcome to Yellowstone. Yeah.
So my guess is there's probably not any gas stations
in a national park right? Yeah that sucks. Should we turn around? I don't know
I'm gonna keep driving for a bit. Okay. It's about 20 minutes back
to town. Yeah we're gonna add like an hour.
Yeah and it's already... That's better than adding
being stranded somewhere. I just wish there was phone service so we
could check. I know. Okay we're turning around but I know
exactly what's gonna happen. It's gonna be just past where we yeah.
We're gonna get fuel we're gonna come back and we would have been
five minutes away from a gas station.
It is what it is. Oh man.
It wasn't that far, 15 minutes believe me. Yeah.
And a pump open already? Wow. Wowee. Never lets me pre-authorize with our
card eh? Worst travel money card on the planet.
We get frequent fly miles so. We'll just stick with it. Yeah.
I've got service here so. We can actually know where we're going.
West Yellowstone entrance here. Yeah.
