This is the beauty of Mahabharat. Every single character is gray character. There's no hero. No villain. They are like normal humans. Every single one of them had flaws. Love it!!! Most people don't understand the layers. Unko sirf hero aur villain dikhta hai
There have been many reasons for Mahabharata.
And one of the major reasons was Shakuni.
Shakuni used to earn Duryodhan's favor.
Shakuni used to make Duryodhan angry.
Shakuni was the one who used to get whatever he asked for.
And because of him, the Pandavas were defeated.
And because of him, Draupadi was killed.
But why did Shakuni do all this?
Why was Shakuni doing all this?
What was his intention?
What was his hidden agenda?
Today, I'm going to tell you about this.
Before the Mahabharata war,
there were many things that you and I don't know about.
This is one of them.
So, Bhishma was looking for the right wife for Dhritarashtra.
And then he found out about Gandhar King.
Many people believe that Gandhar came from the kingdom of Gandhar.
Gandhar, which is now in Afghanistan.
So, Gandhar King, according to many people,
was the king of today's Afghanistan.
He was known as Gandharva King.
So, Bhishma Pitamah went to Gandharva King
and told him that he wants to marry his daughter Gandhari
to the king of Kuru dynasty, Dhritarashtra.
Dhritarashtra was blind.
Gandhar King didn't want to marry her, but the kingdom was small.
He didn't have the ability to refuse.
Gandhar King remained silent.
Gandhari and Dhritarashtra got married.
But after the marriage, Bhishma Pitamah found out something
which he thought was a lie.
The thing was that Gandhari was a Mangalika.
And before marrying Dhritarashtra,
Gandhari was married to a goat and she was sacrificed.
This is believed in Hindu society and Hindu religion.
If the Mangalika is too heavy,
her husband or wife may die.
To avoid that, sometimes with a tree, sometimes with a coconut,
sometimes with a goat,
the first marriage is performed and she is sacrificed.
So that the problem is solved.
That's what he did.
But when Bhishma Pitamah found out about this,
he thought that he was mistaken.
He hid such a big thing from him.
In anger, Bhishma Pitamah sent an invitation to Gandhar King.
He said that all the people of your family,
come to Hastinapur.
We want to welcome you as a guest.
He couldn't refuse.
On top of that, Bhishma Pitamah called him.
He had to go.
All of them came here.
Bhishma Pitamah put them all in jail in anger.
They were kept in a cell.
The custom of that time was that
the one who invited you, will serve you whatever food
and in whatever quantity.
You have to eat in that quantity.
You can't choose.
Since that day, Bhishma Pitamah started giving
a handful of rice to all of them.
He said, I will give you only this.
Eat this and live in this.
One handful of rice was so less
that everyone used to get one grain each.
Every day, people started dying one by one.
Because no one can eat with one grain or four grains.
When everyone was dying one by one,
there was Gandhar King and his son, Shakuni.
He was the Prince of Gandhar.
When everyone was dying one by one,
they decided that death is inevitable.
Everyone will die this way.
So, our Prince, Shakuni,
used to feed them a handful of rice every day.
Everyone agreed.
Shakuni used to sit in that jail and eat a handful of rice every day.
He used to see his loved ones and relatives dying every day.
Gradually, they started dying.
Bhishma Pitamah went to fight a war
and they were kept inside.
Shakuni used to eat a handful of rice every day
and he used to see his loved ones and relatives dying every day.
Two people were left in the end.
One was Shakuni and the other was Gandhar King.
Gandhar King was old and very weak.
In his old age, an old and weak king
calls his son, the Prince of Gandhar, to him.
He says, I want to give you a gift.
Come here.
Shakuni got up and went to his father.
His father was sitting there.
When Shakuni came and stood in front of his father,
Gandhar King used all his strength
and kicked Shakuni's knee.
Shakuni's knee broke.
You know Shakuni because he walks barefoot.
He walks because his father broke his knee with his kick.
Shakuni was in pain and asked, what did you do?
I am your son.
His father said, you are so weak
that when you leave this place, you will forget
what happened to your loved ones and your father.
That's why I broke your knee.
So that you remember at every step
that you are responsible for taking revenge for what happened here.
Because we will feed you a handful of rice
so that when you leave this place,
you can take revenge from the Kuru dynasty, Hastinapur and Gandhar.
And because I broke your knee and made you weak,
I give you a power.
When I die, don't perform my last rites.
And when you perform those rites,
you will get the number and the number you want
and you will keep that number on that number.
That's what Shakuni did.
That's why Shakuni was lame all his life.
And he had two rites.
Because of which the whole of Bishad was spread.
The game of gambling, in which the Pandavas lost everything.
Even Draupadi lost.
Those rites were used in that game.
And why was Shakuni doing all this?
Because Shakuni hated Duryodhan and the entire Kuru dynasty so much
that he vowed to destroy the entire Kuru dynasty.
Apart from all this, Shakuni was sad and angry
that his sister Gandhari was married to a king
who was blind without his will.
Dhritarashtra was blind.
And he was married under the pressure of Bheeshma.
Shakuni loved his sister so much
that he was sad that this shouldn't have happened.
That's why he did all this.
And because of that, Mahabharata happened.
This is Shakuni's story.
So this saying that winners write history.
If the Kauravas had won,
we would have been reading Shakuni's story instead of Krishna.
At the end of the Mahabharata war, Shakuni was alive till the last day.
He was so clever that he used to deceive the competitors every time.
He saw Bheeshma Pitamah fall on his head and breathe his last.
He saw Guru Dronacharya's head separate from his body.
Karna's death due to injustice.
Dushasan's hands and legs being torn apart and killed cruelly.
And the destruction of the Kauravas.
Everything happened right in front of his eyes.
But Shakuni was satisfied in his heart.
He had fulfilled his father's promise.
He had taken revenge from the Kuru dynasty.
On the 18th day of the Kurukshetra war,
Sahadev challenged Shakuni in the battlefield.
Sahadev was the wisest of the five Pandavas.
He knew what Shakuni was thinking.
He also knew that Shakuni had instigated the Kauravas against the Pandavas
and got them to fight.
And that's why Sahadev tried to convince Shakuni
to leave the war.
Because Shakuni had achieved what he wanted.
Now he should return to Gandhara and rule there.
At that moment, Shakuni felt remorseful.
He started talking to Sahadev openly.
Like an old man tells the story of his life to a small child.
The sad memories of his childhood.
Dhritrashtra's torture of his family.
His sister's marriage to a blind king.
Poisoning Bheem.
The conspiracy of the Lakshagraha.
And God knows how many crimes Shakuni had committed in this birth.
He told all that to Sahadev.
He said that he couldn't live anymore.
And he didn't have the courage to bear this burden anymore.
And then, Shakuni started shooting arrows at Sahadev.
Shakuni knew that his time had come.
And finally, Sahadev beheaded Shakuni and put an end to it.
Shakuni fulfilled the promise he made to his father.
That's why it is believed that even after so many sins,
Shakuni attained heaven after his death.
