House cats come from wild forest cats that were tamed by people many, many years ago. The first pet cats lived in people's homes where they caught mice and rats. Over time, cats became helpful and much-loved companions for their owners. Cats are beautiful and graceful animals with many remarkable qualities. They have very big eyes that can see well in the daytime and twilight. Cats have big ears and can hear a mouse rustling in the bush in the distance. They are excellent jumpers and tree climbers, just like their forest ancestors. Besides that, cats are good runners and can run almost as fast as a car. Cats are very tidy and they clean themselves several times a day. For that, they do not need water. They lick their hair and body. Cats love to sleep. They spend most of their life sleeping. In today's world, there are millions of cats of different breeds living around people. There are cats with long and short hair, and there are cats with no hair at all. The cat's hair can be different colors and patterns. Their coats can be white and black, red, gray, brown, spotted, and striped. A cat's eyes can be different colors, blue, yellow, green, brown, and even purple. Sometimes a cat's eyes can be both of different colors, and then one of the eyes is always blue. In popular fairy tales, stories about long-term friendships and adventures of people and cats are enjoyed by many. For example, cats are the main characters in Puss in Boots, The King of the Cats, and others. In these fairy tales, cats are smart, inventive, and loyal helpers for people. Cats form a close bond with their masters. People, too, find joy in friendship with cats and taking care of them.
