Another mountain ride, this time with Kate! The subscriber I met on Mt. Ride #3! Working those challenging curves and trying to avoid frostbite. Maybe... we got a little lost. But the mountains is a pretty good place to get lost. Met my nemesis... Gravel. once again. Dropped my bike on it... AGAIN :O Road turned into gravel before I could think fast enough to stop or turn around.
All right, Kate and I are going for a ride.
Oh, beautiful!
I'm out here on a mountain ride with Kate.
So we came up to Helen, already in the mountains,
and then, uh, this is the first time I've done this, where I just looked at the map
where we were located and looked at what roads looked curvy and picked that to go to.
So hopefully that'll work.
I've never picked a route that way.
So we'll see if it works.
Aw, dang it!
Uh-oh.
Yeah, I'm glad you stopped.
God dang it.
So the theory is, like, yeah, I think I'm gonna...
Now I have you to help me.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Okay, thank you.
Yeah, huh?
You okay?
Yeah, I'm good.
Okay, so, sorry.
I guess Chattahoochee Road is, like, this weird road.
It occurred to me, when we turned on this little road, I'm like...
Yeah, I was like, uh-oh.
I bet the street's gonna run out.
It's gonna be gravel.
Yeah, okay.
So let's see.
May I just pick another route, then?
Sure.
Okay, all right, sounds good.
My bad.
Woo!
It's the colors of the wind!
For this view, for that car.
Because either one, brilliant.
Wow.
Oh.
My gosh.
Holy cow.
Oh, yes.
I'll move up so you can do it, too.
Oh, watch out for that dang gravel.
Oh, yes.
Oh, it's so windy.
Holy cow.
Yeah, do you feel that gust back a little bit further back?
Yes!
I keep feeling like I'm gonna be blown over.
You look so little!
We're not worthy.
Kate and I are leaving Two Wheels As Suches.
We stopped here because we were so cold.
Could not feel our hands or our feet.
Nothin'.
So now we are thawed out and ready to ride again.
My bad.
There we go.
We should go that way.
Oh, well.
Oh, my gosh, it's so cold!
I have discovered this mountain ride, that 50.
Look at that beautiful view.
I have discovered that 55 degrees on a cold and windy day is too cold for riding!
I am freezing!
I have so many layers on.
I've got a lava core long-sleeved thing that I use for scuba diving.
I have my Dainey quilted textile jacket on and I have a fleece sweater on.
And I have the rainproof windbreaker on.
So my torso is actually really warm.
But I have my glove liners and winter gloves.
And my hands were freezing after a while because for some reason I was like,
even though I have heated gloves, I just got them yesterday.
I don't need them this ride.
55 will be warm.
I was wrong.
So I have discovered that this is way too cold for me for riding.
But if this is all I get, I'm still gonna ride anyway.
I'm just gonna ride with heated gloves next time.
And then I will have to, I'll just make sure I have stops about every hour or two
so that I can thaw out again and get warm.
And I will have to stop and start heading home again by about four.
Because that's when we're leaving.
It's about 4 10 and the sun's already setting.
It's gonna be like 30 degrees by five or six o'clock.
So time to get home as fast as possible.
Oh yeah, maybe I should do my usual mountain review ride.
Uh, well, you know what?
This week's mountain review ride, I got nothing.
I was too cold.
I wasn't paying attention.
I'm ready to go home.
It's cold.
Okay, so the verdict is if it's 55 degrees or colder,
I will only ride if it is going to be sunny.
I have heated gloves, maybe even something for my feet.
And I have planned stops every like one or two hours
so that I can thaw out and get warm.
Rather than that, I think it's going to be too cold for fast or long mountain rides.
I think any colder than that, I'll have to go back to my parking lot practice skills
because I feel like a snowflake today.
That's where I crashed last time.
It just opened?
Yeah, I know.
I realized it.
I realized it when my strap hit the side of my helmet.
That's so weird.
Shoo-wee.
So, I live.
Oh my gosh.
This is what it's like riding without a helmet.
That's crazy.
Okay, now we can go.
All right.
