FAA just Warned This about the Boldest Starship Flight 9 launch ever...
Starship Flight 9 can be the biggest explosion you’ll ever witness!
Yeah, this is no joke, SpaceX and the FAA have issued a strict warning to all nations in the affected zone, spanning an incredible 1600 nautical miles from Boca Chica, Texas, all the way to Australia. Prepare for the worst-case scenario!
Despite the risks, this flight is hailed as the boldest yet, marking a crucial milestone in Starship’s quest to shape the future of spaceflight.
So, what will unfold during this historic launch?
Let’s break it all down in today’s episode of Tech Map.
In the early morning of May 22, the FAA published a statement right on its website with a headline that probably had everyone at SpaceX cheering:“FAA Approves SpaceX Starship Vehicle Return to Flight.”
Yeah, that’s the green light we’ve been waiting for. Took a while, but better late than never!

In the announcement, the FAA clearly stated that “the company has satisfactorily addressed the causes of the mishap,” and because of that, “the Starship vehicle can return to flight.” They also confirmed that SpaceX met all the strict licensing requirements, safety, environmental, and everything in between.
Just the next day, SpaceX quickly jumped on X to announce the official launch date for Starship Flight 9, saying it’s preparing to launch as soon as Tuesday, May 27 - Just a few days away. Pretty tight schedule, right?
Moreover, they’ve just released a detailed update on their website, highlighting the key goals for this flight.

In that update, SpaceX confirms this will be the first time they’re reusing a Super Heavy booster from a previous launch. Meanwhile, the upper stage of Starship will follow a suborbital trajectory, aiming to complete objectives that weren’t hit during the last two flights, like deploying a payload for the first time, and running more reentry tests to eventually bring the ship back for a catch attempt.
And there’s one detail most folks probably missed: to protect the launch pad at Starbase, the booster won’t be coming back for a catch this time. Instead, it’ll perform all its tests on the way to a planned splashdown out in the Gulf of America.
