Originally built in the 1660s and later rebuilt in 1698 after a fire, the Maison Saint-Gabriel is an important historical monument in both Quebec and Canada and one of the oldest houses in the country. It served as a farmhouse and home for the legendary filles du roy (King's Daughters), women from France who immigrated to New France to help boost the population, and is therefore an important place for many genealogical lines found throughout Canada and North America.
