Are you tired of people saying, sorry, what, when you speak in English?
If you've ever felt frustrated because other people have a hard time understanding you,
or you just don't sound as natural as you would like, well, don't worry.
You are not alone.
Pronouncing English clearly can feel impossible, but it doesn't have to.
I'm going to tell you how in 10 to 15 minutes per day, you can transform your pronunciation
so that you can start speaking English with confidence.
I imagine that you have spent a lot of time learning English, maybe with videos or apps
or in the classroom, but when it comes to speaking, you still don't sound like you want to.
So how can you study English for a long time and still not have the English pronunciation
that you want?
Well, there's a couple reasons.
One reason is that English is not pronounced the way it's spelled.
We have silent letters, reduced sounds, connected speech.
All of this can make pronunciation feel extremely tricky.
Another reason is that you weren't taught real life pronunciation.
Textbooks do not teach how real people speak in real life.
And another reason is that you just weren't getting enough feedback about your pronunciation
and your voice.
Without correction, it's hard to know which words you're saying correctly and which words
you're not saying correctly.
So if you have ever felt embarrassed, worried, or nervous about how you sound in English,
this is extremely normal, but there is a better way.
I'll tell you about that way in just a minute.
But first, let's talk about what happens when your English pronunciation is not
understandable and natural.
It can make conversations awkward and stressful.
It can hurt your confidence when you're speaking English.
It can hold you back from job opportunities.
It could make social situations uncomfortable.
But when you speak clearly and naturally, everything changes.
What happens when you have great pronunciation?
People easily understand you.
No more repeating yourself and feeling frustrated.
You sound more fluent and confident so you can express yourself freely.
You make a great impression at work, at social situations, anywhere that you're speaking English.
And when you have great pronunciation, you just feel comfortable in conversations.
And the best part?
It only takes 10 to 15 minutes per day to see a big difference and have great pronunciation.
And that's why I created the 30-Day Pronunciation Challenge, a step-by-step course
designed to help you improve your English pronunciation quickly and easily.
I've taught thousands of English learners how to improve their English pronunciation
using the four-step method in the 30-Day Pronunciation Challenge.
So let's take a look at this four-step method and see if it can work for you.
Then you will get a chance to take a sneak peek inside the course to try the method yourself.
But first, let's see what the first step is.
Step number one is to read the story.
Each day, you'll read a short section of a story that focuses on a key pronunciation concept.
This helps you to learn real pronunciation in context instead of just memorizing it.
Step number two is to watch the daily video lesson.
You will see and hear me pronounce the key pronunciation concepts
so that you know exactly how to say them correctly.
These short, focused lessons help make learning easy peasy.
Step number three is to practice with pronunciation drills.
Through these guided practices, you will train
your mouth and muscles to pronounce English words clearly and correctly.
And step number four is the best, in my opinion.
You will get personalized pronunciation feedback from our professional American English teachers.
Each week, you'll submit your pronunciation homework,
and our team of professional American English teachers will listen to your voice,
review it, and give you the feedback you need based on your accent and your voice.
You will know each week exactly what to fix.
This is the most valuable part of the course.
Normally, personalized pronunciation coaching costs $75,
but I have included it in the 30-day pronunciation challenge for free.
This is the secret to faster improvement.
Real feedback from real teachers on your real voice.
Let's take a sneak peek inside the course at the day 15 lesson.
Each day, you will receive a lesson just like this
that focuses on a specific pronunciation concept.
Let's go.
Welcome to week three, day 15 of the 30-day pronunciation challenge.
Congratulations.
Today, you are halfway through the challenge.
Yes, great work.
Today and this week, we are going to be taking the concepts from week one
and week two and leveling them up.
So each week, it will get slightly more and more challenging.
That's why it's a challenge, right?
Well, today, you are going to practice something called the colored R.
This is a hard R sound that exists all over the place in American English.
So while we are listening and watching today's story segment,
I want you to look for the key yellow words highlighted
so that you can hear that R sound and then we'll practice it together.
Let's watch.
With Danielle and Mason's help, Ruby quickly put up a fence around her garden.
While they were working, Mr. Allen stopped by to ask what they were doing.
We're installing a fence because deer have been eating my plants, Ruby explained.
Ah, yes, I've had plenty of deer nibbling on my garden too, Mr. Allen replied.
You should try planting rosemary or lavender around the borders of your garden.
Deer don't like those plants, so they should leave the rest of your garden alone.
I never would have thought of that, Ruby said.
Thanks, Mr. Allen.
So what is the colored R sound and when should you use it?
Well, I have some good news.
In American English, almost all of the R's are pronounced the same.
That's right.
So when you master today's R lesson,
you're going to have the tools that you need to pronounce almost any R in English.
Let's take a look at a phrase from the story so that I can help you to
use the colored R correctly and give you a little tip so that you can use it easily as well.
Take a look at this phrase, around her garden.
Both or I should say all three of those words have an R, around her garden.
Okay, so if you want to pronounce this R in the American pronunciation style,
you need to pretend.
Are you ready?
You need to pretend that you are an angry dog.
What does an angry dog sound like?
Is it rr, rr, rr?
No, it is rr, rr, rr.
It is growling at you and that's what I want you to do.
A little bit embarrassing, a little bit strange, but it works, right?
So let's take that angry dog pronunciation, rr, rr, and add it into this phrase.
We're going to be elongating those R sounds just for practice so that you can make sure
that you're saying them correctly.
So I want you to try to say this phrase with me.
Are you ready?
Around her garden.
Here we have three angry dogs, around her garden.
Well, it's a little strange, but it works.
Let's see how this is used in the other phrases from the story.
Take a look at these two words, working, dear.
Those R's are exactly the same as well.
Can you say them with me?
Say them at the exact same time.
Working, dear.
Do you hear how it sounds really strong, really hard?
Dear.
This is a key sound of American English.
Let's practice with the next four words.
Replied, rosemary, lavender, borders.
That word has two R's and they're pronounced exactly the same.
Borders.
Notice how my mouth isn't changing for those two R's.
They are pronounced the same in American English.
This colored R is everywhere.
Anytime that you use an R in American English, it's going to be there.
Try to say these four words with me.
Replied, rosemary, lavender, borders.
And the last two from the story are rest, never.
Say them with me.
Rest, never.
Great work.
All right, let's put this colored R or hard R sound into a few pronunciation drills.
I'm going to say the sentence once, then you'll repeat,
then I'll say it again and you'll repeat it again.
Are you ready?
Don't forget to pretend like you are an angry dog.
Someone just stole your bone.
You're so angry.
Give back that bone.
Or you're a playful dog that is playing tug of war.
Give me back that string.
It's the exact same sound.
So we're having a little imagination fun today.
Let's say pronunciation drill number one and listen for that hard R sound.
Wash the germs off your hands before you serve this food.
Great work.
For sentence number two, don't forget that voiced TH for the word this, this.
And of course, our wonderful colored R in many words.
Let's say sentence number two.
My children went to the circus for the first time this year.
Great work.
For sentence number three, don't forget to have that stopped or glottal T for the contraction
don't, don't, don't.
We're going to have that T stopped at the top of your mouth.
Don't.
And we'll be focusing specifically on negative contractions a little bit later,
but it's always good to integrate those because you already know this stopped or
glottal T pronunciation concept.
All right.
Let's say pronunciation drill number three.
Be careful.
Don't overcook the chicken or it will burn.
Be careful.
Don't overcook the chicken or it will burn.
Excellent work.
And our final fourth pronunciation drill for today is this.
Can you pass me that large jar of forks?
We have three really strong R words side by side here.
You can do it.
Go ahead.
Can you pass me that large jar of forks?
Excellent work.
So what's next?
I recommend practicing the pronunciation drills below this video.
You can practice these individual audios as many times as you need to.
Practice this colored R to make sure that it is clear and strong when you speak.
And when you're done, you can let us know in the comments that you have finished today's lesson
and you are officially halfway through this challenge.
And I'll see you again tomorrow.
Bye.
Great work practicing your pronunciation with that sneak peek.
