Yuji Nishida VS Earvin N'Gapeth | Osaka Bluteon VS Foolad Sirjan | AVC Champions League 2025. Kyoto, Japan, May 17, 2025 – Osaka Bluteon delivered a fantastic 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19) win over defending Asian Club champions Foolad Sirjan Iranian in the semifinals of the inaugural AVC Men’s Champions League on Saturday at Shimadzu Arena.
With the win, Osaka Bluteon not only earned a place in the historic final of Asia’s newly rebranded club championship, but also secured a coveted spot in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship.
Cuban outside hitter Miguel Ángel López was the driving force behind Osaka’s success, delivering a match-high 24 points (22 kills, 1 block, 1 ace). Yuji Nishida contributed 18 points, including 15 kills, while Shoma Tomita added 12. French volleyball legend and two-time Olympic MVP Earvin Ngapeth made a strong impact with 20 points, leading the team in attacks with 16 kills from 32 attempts.
Federation Men's Champions League. In the red, it's Fulad Serjan-Iranian for Fulad.
Lopez, easy pass. There's the speed that I talked about earlier. If the ball is
under control, Erem Otoki will accelerate everything.
Tested again, this is good from Larry.
Good hit from Hajipour as well but nicely dug by Tomita. An initiator's first swing of the game
is unsuccessful. Retirement from the international lineup. We'll see whether that sticks. There's a
couple of players that I think Laurent Tilly would still be happy to have in the squad if he can
tempt them back. Good blocking. Very good blocking. There's a new man. This time they defended.
Lopez with heat. Goes for the line. Finds the line. That is a remarkable
play. Tomita had to play quite a bit during the season when Grishke was injured.
And did so very well. Deputized excellently. So it's a massive change-up for them but there's a
difference in height at the net. Lovely. This is really lovely. This is Isaka Blutjohn in full flow now.
What's he going to do about that? Erem Otoki who at 1.93 is a good blocker.
Well played. Lopez gets the swing and it's covered very well by Morandi.
Heavy hit. Well covered.
And Lopez fills his boots. Solidify the pass here.
Oh that's unlucky for Fulad.
Yeah they're doing everything right at the moment. Blutjohn and Fulad.
Good watch.
Lopez puts a big hole on Japan. Lead the match by a set to nil over the team in red.
Super league. Super club.
Good pass from Yamamoto. Good swing from Nishida on the freebie.
But against serving like that. Back to the serve.
They're one of the serves that cause problems for Fulad. Lowering those top spin with power.
Well defended. Well defended. But they can't put it away. Fulad get a go at it.
And Esfandiar out of the pipe. Not too pleased about that. Good containment. Good containment from Ero.
Good hit. Yamamoto defends well. Oh wow. Well it's a tempo ball but the problem with that.
Good line serve. That's very well done. Somehow Esfandiar out of the line.
Good work. It's a great pass from Nishida who hasn't hit one for a while. Hits it hard.
And a brilliant block from Erwin Engerberg. As he roofs Nishida out of sight.
Away we go with set number three. It's one all in the red. Fulad Sajjaneranian in the
ascendancy at the moment in the game. Played well in set two.
And blocking brilliantly at the start of set three. That's been a key factor in this match.
Pace from Esfandiar. Well read by Tomita. Lopez can't get through on the first go.
Nishida responds well. Their regular attacking pattern.
And again good pass. Options available. All of them. And the option that was chosen
was the high flying Tomita out of the backcourt on that pipe.
Brilliant hit. Now we're going to get a challenge here. A video challenge from
Maribel Ruiz. And I think he...
That is the center line. Not the attack line. I think they can serve and play
Engerberg all the way here. And really force him into a corner.
Oh it's beautiful. It's beautiful from Lopez.
Get a chance to go to the VNL and get up close to the players on the court.
You'll notice what this game is about now. Good coverage from Lopez. Motoki makes it to the ball.
Bumps a great pass. Oh magnificent. That is just brilliant from Blutjahrd.
Motoki took a chance. Very much the modern way. But put it on the tape. Give the hitter...
Good hit from Engerberg. Good defense from Yamamoto.
And good reuse. Very deliberately played by Tomita. And that super kill from Nishida.
Good reuse again from Tomita. Massive. Absolutely massive. This time they...
Chances here. Wide to Lopez. And Lopez gets it done.
This match for them to keep Blutjahrd from the net is proving to be very hard work.
Can't put the ball away. And the block can't stop Lopez.
Away we go then with set number four. Tomita to serve for Osaka Blutjahrd in the white.
Oh there you go. There's another shot from the library.
Engerberg's first go from the service line. Goes off pace. Lopez. Beautiful pass.
Stunning volleyball. And it's defended. We play on. And Engerberg chops it through for the point.
Challenge is called. And they challenge. So there we go. That's what they were asking about.
And they are absolutely right. Hachipor knew he touched the net.
Although this man is probably going to put a bit of extra on it.
No. He controls his serve as well. Which means it's coming back with interest.
A little bit against it.
Hits Larry. Front court middle. Good reuse from Tomita. He does that well. And nice finish from
Larry. Wicked block. There with the serve. That was a valuable lead and it's gone.
Having to throw all sorts of shapes in the air. Now Tomita got them some daylight last time.
And finds a good serve there. Well it's unconventional. It nearly worked.
But it didn't work well enough. And Lopez tidies up.
Lutyon's game to lose. A two-point lead this late in a set is really useful.
What a hit. Unbelievably it's defended. I'm not sure the setter knew too much about it.
It is trouble. Free ball. Yamamoto passes with ease. Tomita takes the tempo play out wide.
And smacks it home. As Rayan Sports Club waits for the winners of this one.
Beautifully done. One of their former players. Japan Qatar in the final by the looks of it.
And Lutyon looking to make up for losing out of the championships. Will be going
to the final. Courtesy of that man Miguel Angel Lopez. 25-19 in the fourth.
The sack of Lutyon beat Guladzir Janiranian by three sets to one.
