Reds vs. Cubs full game highlights from 5/30/25
While Abbott gets the ball for the Reds, he duels once more with Collin Ray, who was rocked
by the Reds on Saturday.
Yeah, Ray has not pitched against the Reds well in his career, and I think he's gotta
have a little bit of chip on his shoulder and think, I gotta pitch better than what
I did in Cincinnati.
It was a rough outing.
Now, Friedel, another multi-hit game two days ago, his sixth in a row.
Friedel launches to right.
Kyle Tucker watches, and that's gonna go!
A leadoff homerun for T.J.
Friedel!
His fourth on the year, and the Reds take a 1-0 lead right out of the gate.
When the wind is coming out of the south here at Wrigley, there will be some homeruns.
There will be a bunch of homeruns.
The wind on this afternoon is coming out of the south.
One away, top of the first, and here's L.A. De La Cruz.
First pitch to left center.
That's getting it down to the cap, all the way to the wall.
De La Cruz up to second base.
He goes oppo for a double.
And the Reds continue here in the first inning.
A homerun, a ground out very sharply to third, and now a double into the left center field
gap.
Now, Gavin Lux.
Lux hitting at a .291 clip with a homer and .21 driven in.
That's driven to right center, base hit.
Wave is on for De La Cruz, backhanded by Crow Armstrong.
De La Cruz jogs in.
Gavin Lux delivers.
Three hits for the Reds, and a 2-0 lead with one out the first inning.
On the ground.
There's one.
There's two.
For the Reds, Andrew Abbott.
That 1-7-7 ERA, sixth best among men with 40 innings.
And Ian hitting .256 will try to crank up a Cubs rally.
Here we go.
Look it.
Oh, that is some supreme location right there.
Right on the outside corner, right at the bottom of the kneecap.
Cubs trail 2-0 in the first, and the batter, Seiya Suzuki.
Beautiful backdoor bender strike three.
When he can use the inside part of the plate with a fastball early,
it opens up that outside corner to either the changeup or the curveball.
Pete Crow Armstrong leads off the Cubs' second inning.
2-0 in favor of the Reds.
Swing and a miss at the breaking ball.
Tag applied.
And Swanson takes a strike.
Gansby hitting .248 with 11 home runs.
Sword strike three.
Four strikeouts already for Abbott.
Sailed to right.
Fraley.
1-2-3 for Abbott.
T.J. Friedle leads off the Reds.
Beautiful day for baseball here in Chicago.
The last Reds lefty to have two or more hits in six straight, Todd Walker.
That's going to fall in, make it seven consecutive multi-hit games for T.J.
Friedle.
Runner goes.
Pitch is grounded to first.
And J.T. will handle it.
Calls off Ray.
Justin Turner leads off the Cubs' third inning.
Reds are on top.
2-0.
Ground ball.
Base hit.
Solidly struck off the back of Justin Turner.
Leadoff man is aboard.
Back to second base goes Justin Turner on the lazy fly out by Ian Happ to right.
Two men are gone.
High in the air.
Left field.
Benson.
2-0 Reds in the fourth.
One away.
Will Benson the batter.
On the ground and through.
Base hit.
So Benson gets a one-out base hit to get the Reds' fourth inning going.
Tyler Stevenson on one pitch lined to short his first time.
Sends this straight away.
Pete Crowe Armstrong in steep retreat.
And that is gone.
Above the batter's eye.
Another deep shot for Stevenson.
He's got four on the year.
And the Reds have a 4-0 lead.
That just tells you the strength of Tyler Stevenson.
Nice, easy stroke.
Barrel gone.
Runners at first and second.
One away.
And now T.J. Friedle the batter.
That one bunted in the air.
Nice grab.
Running over toward the third baseline.
Lunging and making a beautiful backhanded diving catch.
And Ray gets the punch.
The Reds are up on the Cubs 4-0.
We go to the bottom of the fifth inning.
Andrew Abbott has been very stingy here this afternoon.
Abbott gets the swing and miss.
That's his sixth strikeout.
Changeup right in the heart of the zone.
To third.
Espinel.
A 1-2-3 inning.
We go to inning number six.
Reds lead 4-0.
Hard ground ball fair.
Kicks off the wall.
And Tucker holds Benson to a single.
That will bring Jake Fraley to the plate for the third time today.
Jake Fraley first pitch to right center.
Tucker going back and looking.
And that's good.
First game back.
Third Reds home run today.
This one's a two-run shot.
It is 6-0 Reds.
Let's see if the Cubs can take a bite out of this six-run deficit
as they bat here in the sixth inning, Zach.
Absence this to right.
Abbott's been pretty pitch efficient.
He's still south of 80.
As long as Abbott is pitching the way he is right now,
might just let him continue to go.
And now Tucker's guy is a pop-up on the infield.
Right side, Matt McClain under it.
He's got it.
Another 1-2-3 inning for Andrew Abbott.
Reds are on top, 6-0.
Andrew Abbott still in the game for the Reds.
You want to get him out of there, guys.
Swing and a miss.
Seven strikeouts for Abbott.
Little cambio.
Radar love right there on the outside corner.
Pete Crow Armstrong swings and misses.
And he is, in fact, down on strikes for a third time today.
Boy, Andrew Abbott has been brilliant.
Seven innings of shutout.
One hit baseball at Wrigley.
Let's see if the Cubs can create a little storm on their offensive side
in this bottom of the eighth inning.
Cubs are trailing 6-0.
And Tony Santillan, a right-hander, is the new pitcher.
Harder's 0-2.
He's twice flied out.
Line drive down the left side.
Fair ball.
And let's see if that loosens up the offense.
That's drilled out towards right center field.
The Cubs to second.
And Michael's trying for three.
And he's got a triple.
This game is not over yet.
The Cubs finally get on the board.
It's now a 6-1 ballgame.
A pinch hit RBI triple by Michael Bush.
Now Matt Shaw, number nine hitter in the Cubs lineup today.
Other way.
Base hit.
6-2.
Failed pitch.
Ball.
Nice work by half.
Really good plate appearance.
Well, the Warblers call the bullpen.
We'll bring Graham Ashcraft, a right-hander, into the ballgame
to try to get the Reds out of this two-on, two-in inning
that the Cubs are mustering right now.
Tucker with one swing could make this a one-run ballgame.
Grounded to first here on the backhand.
Fired to David Cruz.
Ashcraft covers.
Double play.
Look at that play.
The Reds get out of it.
The Cubs get two, and we go to the ninth inning.
Rebs trying to send a big crowd here at Wrigley Field home disappointed.
The Reds lead it 6-2.
Bottom of the ninth inning.
In the air.
That one might find space.
It does.
Base hit left field.
PCA to second.
Suzuki stopping at third.
Sayah thought the ball might be catchable.
So now second and third.
Cubs making some noise.
Emilio Pagan comes in this ballgame,
and right-hander is inheriting kind of a momentum-type inning.
Dansby Swanson the first man to face Pagan.
Runners at second and third.
Cubs trail 6-2.
Bottom of the ninth inning with one away.
Swing and a miss.
Pagan punches him out.
He dropped the split finger on him right in the heart of the plate.
Started in the same exact spot as the previous fastball,
and you can see Swanson is thinking fastball here.
He comes up blue.
Right-hander to right-hander again.
Horner doubled his last time up.
Grounded up the middle.
Dela Cruz.
The Reds take the opener here in Chicago,
and they level the season series with the first place club.
A 6-2 finish on this Friday.
