20 Times Wilfredo Leon Shocked the World !!! Wilfredo León is one of the most renowned and powerful volleyball players in the world. Born on July 31, 1993, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, he started playing volleyball at a very young age. León quickly rose through the ranks and debuted for the Cuban national team at just 14 years old. He became the team captain by age 17 and led Cuba to a silver medal at the 2010 FIVB World Championship. Known for his explosive power and jumping ability, he plays as an outside hitter. In 2013, he left the Cuban national team due to restrictions on playing professionally abroad. He then moved to Poland and eventually gained Polish citizenship in 2015. León married a Polish woman and expressed interest in representing Poland internationally.
Due to FIVB regulations, he had to wait a few years before he could play for another national team. He debuted for the Polish national team in 2019. At the club level, León played for Zenit Kazan in Russia, winning numerous titles, including the CEV Champions League. He later transferred to Sir Safety Perugia in Italy, continuing his dominance in European volleyball. León is known for his incredibly fast and powerful jump serves. He regularly scores aces and is a nightmare for opposing receivers. His spike reach exceeds 3.7 meters (about 12 feet), making him nearly unstoppable at the net. He has been named Best Outside Spiker and Best Server in several international competitions. León is often compared to volleyball legends for his skill and impact. Despite early setbacks due to politics and nationality rules, he has had a stellar career. He is also admired for his sportsmanship and work ethic. As of 2025, he remains one of the most influential figures in international men’s volleyball.
Oh, he's the guy you want to serve, but that's a great first touch by Ishikawa.
And Miyahara straight into the block!
Perfect pass and getting the stuff on Miyahara, who's been next to untouchable.
Yep, he's ready to play today, that's for sure.
One on one.
Let's take the set.
Oh, that was filthy.
Bielanski at 17-22.
Bednorz, lovely pass.
Leon, boom, gone.
He almost glides around the court.
He doesn't look aggressive, fast.
It's just smooth movement.
It's like a beginner skating on ice.
Oh, I say, what a block!
The elevation, look at this too, drops him late.
Big right hand, Leon.
Just completely horizontal over the net.
Oh, that ball just picked up right in the middle of the court.
Miyahara couldn't get the swing.
Kashmeric!
Oh, well pulled back there from Tatsunori Otsuka.
Free ball coming in for Poland.
Here's the wave and Leon from the back line!
The wave, the tsunami, the overwhelming waters that are Poland.
Great bring back by Japan, but that was always going to be opportunity.
Free ball and then that pop up in the back.
Oh, I've got nothing to say.
I have nothing to say about that.
Just incredible.
75 miles an hour.
Down, that was brutal.
Yeah, I think they set the right guy here, but that's a great block by Leon.
Leon and Huber in there as well.
Another long body, that was fantastic.
Oh, fantastic!
We've seen some quick back attacks and we think that Brazil are probably the quickest,
but that might just...
Leon with the response.
This man right here.
Beautiful work also by the setter.
Blistering serve, sent back.
I don't understand that.
He's looking, he was wiping inside.
It's all a bit new for him.
But yeah, you've got to get that off the wide, but off the hand.
Triple block waiting.
I was watching Leon kind of try to get down under the vision.
Wow!
That trap was set and sprung perfectly.
Oh, look how high Leon is, even compared to Kurek.
It could be anything.
Oh, my goodness.
Ops for the float serve.
Clivano receives.
Patry!
Oh, this is a good start for Poland.
But you know what?
I don't think Huber or Leon really knew where it had gone for a second.
It wasn't until the referee pointed, we could see that it was definitely in.
Oh yeah, that is a monster.
It's caught Patry on its...
Little ball.
Leon!
Just so smooth, a rip.
Isak's come in, he can't get anywhere near it for Brazil.
A couple of substitutions for Poland as they do the double sub.
Leon behind the service line.
Darlan again drops back for a four-person receive.
And it does it right through the seams.
He's gone shopping in the Isle of Mystery and he's got himself an ace.
And this is the thing when you got the four and hold their positions.
Janiak, plenty of power.
The answer is no.
He's also just tested how strong the floor is.
There's not a dent in it just yet.
But that came down with serious heat.
Oh, what a block for Leon.
What a block.
That's a picture.
So well formed.
He's not reaching outside his body line, just straight across.
Koncepcion is picked up by Fornali.
They're not really bringing much from the end line at the moment.
Huber are very safe and conservative with their serves.
Most aren't Huber like this.
I'd rather go for the percentage to get him in.
And then try and look for it in transition, which they know.
Janiak.
Oh, somehow kept alive there.
Goodness knows how by Janusz.
So they'll have to win it again.
And they can't win it again.
Martinez-Frenchy contained.
Leon contained that.
Bench got their arms up.
They enjoyed that one.
You see where that angle is that Leon has hit his ball out.
That's what a couple of flat passes coming in for Argentina.
Trying to move that block as quick as they can.
And then as soon as Janusz takes it out, Legos comes up.
Janiak.
That's well passed.
And that is brilliantly blocked by Leon.
That's just a world-class play all the way around right there.
Great serve.
Always serves aggressively.
Serves to Slivka.
Leon.
Good block touch.
Ran Takahashi.
Miora.
Superb from Zatorski.
And Leon makes it work.
That's the quality of Zatorski as a libero right there.
We've seen Miora just pepper that line.
He makes the adjustment.
Look at the one-arm spear.
And Leon again with the good aggression in transition, which you love.
That's a superb swing.
Going backwards.
No momentum.
Cracks it already.
Germany out of system.
Tiller races away from the net.
And Brand hops it into the block.
But it's there.
It's lined up.
And it's good for Poland.
That was a beautiful set.
Pass way off the net.
Setter gets all the way out.
Tiller shoots that ball in.
Gets them in the swing.
Notice that they didn't go three-man block.
The setter actually pulled off.
Womash pulled.
And there's no change to it.
And that's why.
Because it's a tough, tough serve.
And it's a massive block.
And it is six points for Poland.
Again, Leon closing that three-man block out there.
See if we get another look at it.
Here it is.
Perfectly timed.
Even though obviously that insight makes sense.
Oh, yes.
Oh, there you go.
Right.
Where do we go then?
Where do I go, coach?
Oh, you just said, didn't you?
Yeah, that's right.
I need to go over Kaczorpa.
One-on-one.
Fernando versus Leon is going to be a win for Leon.
It's a lot.
Exactly.
Kaczorpa, he's like.
Doing so well, right?
He is moving the ball around.
You don't know which one.
And it is devastation.
There's the serve.
Poland, more traditional.
They're just muscling it, though.
Yes, they are.
And for all of that, they're only one behind.
Yes.
That's nice.
One shoulder under the other.
A golf-style swing as opposed to a baseball-style swing.
Beautifully said.
Creating.
Kaming comes off the net, puts it outside.
Well, Doug, Leon's going to take a rip.
Thunderous kill by Leon.
This is him at his best.
Step flow, so powerful.
So high.
