It's been kind of a wild series so far.
The Mariners laid a thumping of these Nats in Game 1.
Washington returned the favor last night in Game 2, and tonight the series is decided.
Emerson Hancock toes the slab tonight for the Mariners, and he has pitched so remarkably
well since rejoining the ball club.
For the third consecutive game of the series, Mariner pitchers face an all-lefty lineup.
In the first 49 years of the history of the franchise, they've seen only two games where
they faced an all-lefty lineup.
C.J. Abrams digs in.
Emerson Hancock works out of the stretch.
The first pitch of the ball game is popped up.
Third base side, Williamson backs up, now circles into foul ground with the wind pushing
that ball, and Williamson makes the catch.
Here's James Wood.
He'll take his 32nd walk of the year.
One out, one on Nathaniel Lowe, number three hitting first baseman for the Nationals.
Swing and a miss, a good riding fastball from Emerson Hancock, his first strikeout tonight.
That'll bring K.
Beard-Ruiz.
Cued softly over to second base, Dylan Moore there tonight.
Emerson Hancock strands that walk at first base.
We go to the bottom of the first inning, Mariners coming up.
Mackenzie Gore, 93 strikeouts in 62 innings, needs only two to surpass Zach Wheeler tonight.
12 start tonight for Mackenzie Gore, a 3-4-7 ERA.
The 36 percent strikeout rate is the highest among all starting pitchers in the league.
J.P. Crawford will lead things off, followed by Julio and then Cal.
Breaking ball, hits softly, out beyond short.
C.J. Abrams got a great jump and a great read.
And there's two down.
No score, and here he is, Cal Rowley, best catcher in the game of baseball, batting from
the right side against the left-hander Gore.
Cal fourth in the majors in slugging, sixth at OPS.
Hit hard and it ticks off C.J. Abrams' glove, and into left field, Cal Rowley a two-out single.
The first hit of the ballgame belongs to the Mariners, and here's Randy Orosarena, who
does not have a hit in the series, 0 for 6.
Cal Rowley takes off, here's a throw and it's airmailed into center field.
Cal pops up and he gets into third base, so a stolen base and an error.
That's the sixth bag for Cal Rowley.
All right, so what doesn't this guy do?
Mitzvah with power from both sides of the play.
He's been smashing the ball with a high average, and now he's taking off.
Stealing his bag pretty easily.
Gore not paying much attention to Cal over at first base.
Cal very alertly moves up 90 feet as that ball is thrown into center field.
Oh, my.
Well, all that did was set up a two-out strikeout with a runner 90 feet away.
Stop at the second.
Luis Garcia leads it off.
Again, an outside target.
The 0-2 is served in the air, shallow left center.
That's going to dunk in for a hit.
So, a third straight pitch to the outside, and Garcia was ready for it, and he flares
a change up into left center for a leadoff single.
So, one on and one away, and that'll bring up Robert Hassel III.
Big break there from Garcia.
Tag applied.
He got him at second base.
He just continues to do just about everything on the baseball field.
Right here, gets up.
Little delayed steal, and Garcia's out by a mile.
You can see JP.
He's out in front of that bag.
Cal kind of just gets better at everything.
Here's a swing and a chopper wide of the mound,
charging the second baseman.
Dillon Moore's got an off-balance throw to first.
Fires in time to get Hassel.
That's going to retire to the side.
Leone Tavares leads it off.
This is out to the gap in right center field, and it touches down for a base hit.
Wilde gets to quickly the hole.
Tavares to a single.
Hit hard the other way into the gap in right center.
Brings up Ben Williamson.
Down and away, and there is a milestone that we've been hoping for and waiting for.
Mackenzie Gore, his third of the night, and that's number 500.
Here's JP Crawford.
2-0.
Runner on the move.
Check swing.
Throws a good one right on the bag.
Throw the ear for him.
Absolutely the throw of the year.
Not the greatest of jumps right there.
You get the strike at the top of the zone, and then a perfect throw, perfect tag.
And a flare to left.
Well, it was almost like a double play.
Next pitch, inning over.
Well, we go to the top of the fifth inning.
Marin is in the Nationals.
No score.
Luis Garcia, Jr. will lead things off.
What a matchup between Hancock and Gore.
He's going to go up the middle.
The barrel of the bat's going to end up over by first base.
And Garcia, four hits in the series.
Snaps eight in a row retired by Emerson Hancock.
Robert Hassel III, but he's going, and that's going to be right to the bag.
A one-hopper for Crawford and a room service 6-3 double play ball for him.
Jose Tena, ninth walk of the year.
Second issued by Hancock tonight.
Hancock ready, and the one-two pitch on the way.
Swing and a miss.
Off-speed pitch and a beauty change-up for strike three, and then a strikeout
number four for Hancock.
Second walk this inning.
Hancock had hardly had even a three-ball count until now.
In fact, the last three-ball count until this inning was the second batter
of the game.
So, three walks on the night in five and a third from Hancock.
Two of the last three batters only gave the Nats a couple of hits.
But we've got a game situation coming up here, rubber game of a three-game series,
and it's Wood against the lefty Spire.
That's not a ground ball.
That's a drive to left into the corner.
Tena scores.
Abrams coming around.
He will be waved home, and James Wood has done it again.
Six RBIs in this series, 2-0 Washington.
Well, quite a way to get your 30th extra base hit of the season.
Man, that kid is something.
How the runner going to third.
Throw.
Looks like it's late.
Safe is the call.
And for James Wood, number nine takes place on the left side of the infield.
And they're 2-2 on the way to low.
Swing and a miss, and he got the strikeout with a fastball.
Strike three.
He swings and lobs this into the wind.
Out to left field.
A little Rosarena is nearing the wall, and the yard holds it.
Ruiz is allowed out number three.
A couple of men come home on the two-run double from James Wood.
Nationals in front.
Taveras, two for two.
The Mariners bring the tie and run to the plate.
Ground ball, and is able to get into center field.
Taveras makes a quick turn, races into third base,
and the Mariners suddenly in business.
They've got him on the corners with nobody out.
So, to avoid, and that'll bring up J.P. Crawford.
Strike three called, and J.P. Crawford saying that's not a strike.
And he's gotta watch out.
He's gotta watch out, and he just got tossed.
And he's getting his money's worth now.
We have never seen J.P. Crawford this hot.
Well, he's not wrong, but the problem is the Mariners could really use him.
Swing and a miss on a nasty breaking ball.
Down and in.
So, two consecutive Ks.
A hundred on the season, and now it comes down to Gore and Raleigh.
So, a wild pitch puts Williamson into scoring position.
Sounded like that almost got him, did it?
That's what he's saying.
And Andy Fletcher is giving him first base.
So, he is hit by a pitch with two strikes on him.
Got him on the legs, so Cal Raleigh hit by a pitch,
and now the Mariners have the base loaded with two outs.
But Randy Rosarena.
Swing and a miss.
Mackenzie Gore, three Ks in the inning.
What a job by Mackenzie Gore.
Strikeout number eight.
And a gutsy performance by this 26-year-old fireballer.
Jorge Lopez is the new pitcher for the Nationals.
He'll work the bottom of the seventh inning.
And it's outside ball 40.
Get something going.
So, a leadoff walk for Miles Mastroboni,
and the Mariners will bring the tied run to the plate.
And Rowdy Tellez, he'll pinch hit for Donovan Solano.
Oh, and now it's Lopez and Fletcher.
Well, it's a strike.
It's all over the plate on this.
This is egregious.
And the argument with J.P. Crawford
throwing J.P. out of the ballgame,
and now manager Davey Martinez
going out to settle down Lopez, his reliever.
Got him.
Tellez all locked up in a key first out for the Nets.
A bullet just to his right.
Down to second goes Mastroboni.
Here's Taveras having a good night, two for two.
Inside out, left field base hit.
Mastroboni waves home.
Here's the throw, cut off,
and the Mariners are on the board.
It's a one-run game.
Leone Taveras cashes in with his third hit tonight.
Ben Williamson, the number nine hitter
in the lineup, coming up.
Meanwhile, Taveras takes off, and there's no throw.
To the backstop, and Taveras,
it bounces right back to the catcher.
It's off Tane's glove, but Taveras stays put.
Tied run at third base, two outs.
The three-two pitch.
Swing and a line, driving to right field.
Base hit, Ben Williamson.
Here comes Taveras on the score, clapping his hands.
Williamson ties the game at two to two
here in the bottom of the seventh inning.
What a clutch base hit for Big Ben.
We are tied at two.
So, back-to-back strikeouts for Matt Brash,
Fanning, Abrams, and now James Wood,
the two toughest hitters in this Washington
national lineup, and he fans both of them.
So, two outs for the Nationals.
Quibert Ruiz, like Lowe, singles with two strikes on him,
and the Nationals try to get something going
with two down here against Brash.
They have two on now for Luis Garcia, Jr.
Line drive right past the glove of Mastroboni.
Lowe being waved home.
Here's the throw.
Play tag!
Leoni Taveras with a rocket from right field.
He cut him down, and this game remains tied.
We go to the top of the 10th inning.
Extra innings for the Mariners for the seventh time this year.
They will have Jose Tena as the free runner
and Daylon Lyle, the number-nine hitter.
A wild pitch, and that will send Tena to third base.
And that ball is launched out to right after it.
Taveras in at the wall.
He will haul it in, but Daylon Lyle
has his first Major League RBI to put the Nats on top.
C.J. Abrams trying to ignite another rally,
and he will go deep to right center.
Just about the same spot.
Taveras can't put it away.
Run!
C.J.'s watching the ball.
What is he doing?
I thought he could have gone to third on that.
With first base open, they put James Wood on.
One out, two on.
Here is Nathaniel Lowe.
And he'll serve one to left.
Abrams around third.
He'll get the send.
And that throw is way offline.
And the Nats have picked up multiple runs
in the top of the 10th.
Gabe here, a little tapper.
To the shortstop, and that ball
ends up to the second baseman.
Nowhere near the bag.
And the bases are loaded.
Breaking ball, high in the air to right.
Racing back again, Taveras.
And that's off the wall at the 380 mark.
Two runs will score.
The Nats go up six to two.
Another two more runs come in for the Nationals,
who have hit it as far as you can this inning
without hitting it out.
And Bell will check one to right.
Let's go.
See you later.
It's a seven run, 10th inning for the Nats.
Let it eat Josh Bell.
109 off the bat, and they can't catch this one.
Now the set by Finnegan.
The two-two, swinging a ground ball,
base hit in a right field.
Williamson, the third, being waved in,
and he's gonna score.
Well, the Mariners get one back.
The throw will go into second base.
Leo Rivas with a base and a run batted in.
And Kyle Finnegan will take care of business
and get that last out.
Kind of a different win tonight, Franny.
It turns out nine to three and a series W.
