One of my favorite things to do in the entire world is to fly drones.
The feeling it gives me is unlike anything else.
A combination of focus, adrenaline, and presence.
That's why I'm spending the week in Socotra, to capture some new drone footage for my next drone
film, but also to explore a new part of the world I've never been to before. I brought two of my
friends and fellow KC members with me on this trip. This is Daniel, a talented creator and
skilled magician. He won the Colder Creative My Year contest which secured him a bunch of epic
prizes including this trip. And Musti, a good friend and talented filmmaker who I've been
collaborating with on many projects for the past couple of years. Together we all set off on a
week-long adventure to explore the island of Socotra. Our trip kicked off with a taste of
and a side of culture shock. Honestly, I'm feeling culture shock. This place is
unlike anywhere else I've ever been. Cars just abandoned everywhere.
A lot of animals, lots of goats and vultures.
After a full night's sleep, we took our first morning slow and prepared for a full day's
The plan was to head out to one of the most remote beaches on Socotra.
So it's officially day two here in Socotra and this morning we took off from a little
fishing village and we're on our way to a beach called Showab. Apparently it's really beautiful.
We're trying to make it there before this rain cloud gets over top of us.
We got a lot of gear on this boat so we're not trying to get wet. How you guys doing?
The next morning we woke up bright and early because we had a long journey ahead of us.
The conditions were looking perfect so it was time to bust out the drums.
Oh, he needs to go back now. I lost connection. Okay, okay, I got it. I'm good.
The road to the dragon blood tree forest was definitely one of the longest and bumpiest drives
I'd ever been on but the moment those surreal umbrella-shaped trees came into view
it felt like we had just arrived on another planet.
One, two, three, four, five, six, nice, seven.
I'm just looking around to find a clean line that I could fly my drone through
and I think I found one right there. I'm gonna try to fly it backwards through the trees.
And I could pan down slowly as I'm moving backwards.
So I gotta say that the dragon blood tree forest was definitely one of the highlights of the trip
for us just because of how special this place was. These trees can only be found in this part
of the world and there was just something so magical about this forest. We ended up spending
three whole days here just because we couldn't get enough. We're currently being swarmed by bees.
It stung me. I think that was a good start to the day. Good substitute for coffee, little bee sting.
So here's the thing, on this trip I've captured some of the most incredible visuals ever. I mean
this place is insane but the reality is without the right music a lot of these visuals would
just feel empty. Music sets the entire tone. It drives the story. It's not just background audio,
it's what brings everything to life. The right song doesn't just support the visuals, it elevates
them. It takes something that's already good and makes it unforgettable. On the other hand,
the wrong track or just a generic one can totally flatten a piece no matter how strong the visuals
are. I knew this drone reel needed to be next level and that's why I went straight to Musicbed.
Instead of wasting hours digging through royalty-free tracks that all sound the same,
I found music that's cinematic, authentic, and actually fits my style. So if you care about
storytelling, don't settle. Musicbed has the music for your next story. There's a link in
the description to get 14 days for free. Check it out. Daniel's literally just asking these
guys if he can ride their motorcycle so I think the adventure continues.
We finished off our last day with a swim at one of the most beautiful canyons we'd ever been to.
It was the perfect place to unwind and reflect on the incredible journey we had just been on.
I feel like this is one of those trips I'll be telling my grandkids about in the future.
