SpaceX's Hidden Solution made Raptor 3 possible, Shocked NASA scientists...
For many of us, the anticipation for the first flight of the Raptor 3 rivals the excitement of an actual Starship launch.
The unveiling of the Raptor Version 3 last year was nothing short of revolutionary, delivering jaw-dropping revelations that shocked the global rocket engine community. Since then, we’ve been eagerly awaiting its debut as Starship transitions to Version 2.
Although so far the Raptor V3’s full, insane power has yet to be publicly demonstrated, it currently serves as SpaceX and Elon Musk’s secret weapon one that is poised to reshape the entire rocket industry.
So why hasn’t Raptor 3 been used yet?
And what is SpaceX's solution to make Raptor 3 possible?
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech.
SpaceX's Hidden Solution made Raptor 3 possible, Shocked NASA scientists...
As SpaceX continues to advance its Starship program with the rollout of Starship Version 2, curiosity is growing around the progress of its next-generation engine Raptor Version 3.
First spotted in August of last year, Raptor 3 immediately stood out, showcasing clear and significant improvements over its predecessors.
In recent days, we've seen close-up images of Raptor 3 engines with serial numbers 16 and 20 at the company's testing facility in Texas. This suggests that SpaceX is now producing Raptor 3 in greater numbers and has begun more extensive testing.
SpaceX's Hidden Solution made Raptor 3 possible, Shocked NASA scientists...
Although SpaceX has yet to officially share any results from Raptor 3's test runs, there's little doubt the company is preparing to unveil a next-gen engine that could even leave NASA’s engineers speechless.
And why not? Based on what SpaceX has revealed so far, Raptor 3 is shaping up to be a game-changer.
First and foremost: efficiency and mass are key factors.
In terms of weight, Raptor 3 is significantly lighter thanks to a redesign that removed bulky heat shields and simplified the overall engine layout. Each unit weighs 1.1 metric tons less than the Raptor 2. Multiply that across 39 engines (33 on the Super Heavy booster and 6 on the Starship), and the weight savings become substantial.
